By Matt Arena New festivals seem to pop up every year, pull a decent lineup and then are never heard from again. In essence they’re attempts at unseating summer powerhouses like Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, but they rarely ever succeed. But every once in a while those festivals have down years, allowing room for one of these newcomers to stake their own claim on the American summer music festival market. This year is one of those years and the Firefly Festival ...

Throughout the tour, they will be supported by School of Seven Bells and Atlas Genius. The new album debuted at #6 on the Billboard Top 200, with nearly 41,000 units sold. This marks the highest chart position in the band's career. The [...]

School of Seven Bells have offered their take on Lil Wayne' s Tha Carter IV single "How To Love" . In the duo's hands, the original's cheesy acoustic strum is transformed into slow-moving waves of drum-heavy dream-pop, the perfect soundscape for Alejandra Deheza's hazy croon. Stream it below. In other news, the band has recently confirmed tour dates with Silversun Pickups and The Afghan Whigs. Check out the full schedule below. School of Seven Bells [...]

It wasn't long ago when Silversun Pickups were a rather unknown indie band, and now they've exploded into a rather huge act. The band will continue their conquest with their latest album entitled Neck of the Woods , and they'll have a whole bunch of tour dates coming this fall. There's no New York City date on the schedule, but the routing doesn't even get them all that close. The full schedule is below. Silversun Pickups tour dates: 8/8 - Berkley Riverfront Park - Kansas City, [...]
America’s East Coast hasn’t had the greatest luck with multi-day music festivals. Remember Vineland? All Points West? Sure, upstate New York plays hosts to plenty of jam-band and electronica festivals, and NYC has CMJ and Governors Ball-type events, but none of those are really in the same league as, say, Coachella or Bonnaroo. Companies that try to build the next “destination festival” northeast of the Virginias always seem to struggle, so for Red Frog Events to call Firefly Music Festival “the East Coast’s premiere music experience” even before its Delaware gates opened for the inaugural outing showed either [...]

photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin Jack White / Bassnectar fans Mallory Bolyard, 25, of Townsend, was planning to go to Firefly Music Festival whether her friends were going or not. And although she has some friends here, a lot of them are only interested in concerts with big names that they like. They're not as interested in discovering new music. Her mom is, though, so the two hit the three-day festival together. Mallory was excited to see [...]
I do spend a large majority of my time in this episode reading, and then reacting to, a bad review of the new Offspring album. But it's certainly not the whole time and I think that I make some attempt to explain why the review bugged me. This may be the last post I write on K's laptop! I have a new laptop (birthday-related present) sitting over there and when I hit "publish" on this puppy I'm going to go over and bust it out! Countdown #112 ***Featuring*** Alex Clare [...]

The gates opened at 11am and people started to stream into Downsview Park already dizzy from the summer heat for Edgefest 2012 . Temperatures soared to 31 degrees, but it felt much warmer for most of the audience, who were left to bake in the heat under a cloudless sky for much of the day. Headliners Billy Talent went onstage after Death From Above 1979 , The Sheepdogs , and Silversun Pickups . While at first blush, this seems like an interesting mix, long waits between sets and [...]

Even though I'm writing this post at 10:58pm on the night before it goes up, it's only because we were at Rehoboth Beach all day and I only just got home. Seriously, doing the intros on the iPhone is tres unstressful and they tend to get me down recording quicker. I hope it's not because I'm sacrificing content... If I am, bear with me as I grow accustomed to this new way of doing things and then bear with me again when I get my new laptop and then everything will be great. When you see [...]
As you probably know from my rantings this year, finding great music has been in short supply. I feel like I want to like more music than I actually do. I follow the new releases pretty religiously...to the point that Tuesday is as sacred in my house as Sunday is in most of middle America. I'm always looking for the next Bon Iver, the XX, or Arcade Fire. But with the mediocre batch of
I won't go into the explanation of the title on here, but suffice it to say, I have a great new way of making these things and I'm very excited about it! It's a pretty standard countdown this week, which is to say, FANTASTIC. Enjoy everyone! Countdown #109 ***Featuring*** The Black Keys fun.
