I'm not feeling tip top today, so this is going to be short and to the point. Simon Dawes is not a man, they're a band, man. Their new album, Carnivore came out (guess when) September 12th. The track I'm going to feature today, "The Awful Things" is all about the power pop. Think Badfinger, Thin Lizy, or modern power poppers like Sloan. Without so many pretty words today, you'll have to trust me and rock it. Simon Dawes - The Awful Things.mp3 [...]
Oh, Simon Dawes. What a glorious pop mess you are. Imagine Donald Fagen of Steely Dan writing lyrics for Wilco instead of Jeff Tweedy and you're halfway to witnessing how SD's debut album Carnivore shimmies it's way through psychedelic folk cock rock. Sandwiched in between crackling melodies and razor tight hooks are four young men who proudly wear their influences on their sleeves; to great

This show marks the grand opening of the venue in its new location. Tickets are still available, but Alchemize & Desdemona Festival main man Nick Spencer advised those hoping to attend to get there early. Come out for what is sure to be a great night! Nothing could really spoil my day today. I HAVE NEW BEN KWELLER . OK Go were fucking amazing last night absolutey NAILING their treadmill routine. It completely stolethe otherwise SUCKTASTIC broadcast. (Did anyone else think it was weird that Chris Brown introduced them? WTF was up with the graphics?). But yeah, OK Go. AMAZING. AAAAAMMMMMMMMAAAZING. Simon Dawes [MP3] Simon Dawes - Salute The Institution Whoa, wait, [...]
Unlike many bands that are actually only one person, Simon Dawes is a singular name that is actually a full band made up of four members. The boys are part rocky, part folky and self described as part fuzzy lo-fi lovability. After doing a bit of research it appears that The Beatles have been tossed around as an influence or similar sound to Simon Dawes as well, though any comparison to the legends is an unfair one. One that may not be unfair and even possible though is with Spoon. I do hear some synergy there [...]
I'm sure most of you are expecting my regular Weekend Mix of Music here today, but I have to be honest with you, I don't know if it's going to happen today. I have been extremely busy at work because of idiot contractors that don't know what they're doing. I don't want to bore you with the technical details, but I can say I was able to say I told you so many times yesterday and today. Anyway, I hope to post some mp3's tomorrow to quench your musical needs, but for now you'll have to make do with some [...]
Now that I am home I can weed threw the inbox. These are all bands that contacted the Duke looking for some exposure. They either left me a link for downloading or have songs on their websites or myspaces. A brief description follows the track and * means Duke approved. The Colour ~ Devil’s Got A Holda Me (a rock song thru and thru)* Favourite Sons ~ Hang On, Girl (kinda like Nick Cave meets Artic Monkeys) [...]
