Shoegaze band, Simon Says No!, sats down for chats about new music and food. The two things that make the world go 'round.
Norway's Simon Says No! released their debut self titled LP in the US earlier this month. We were recently turned on to the track Solitary Rush, off the album. A rollicking track drenched in fuzzed out tremeloed guitars that comes at you like it was shot out of a cannon. The driving rhythm section, melodic guitar lines, and powerful vocals remind us a bit of 90's favs, Cathrine Wheel & The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, with a shiny new coat of paint. Check it out. Simon Says No!; [...]

Solitary Rush by Simon Says [...]
PHOTO: Anne Molland Sandøy The Norwegian noise-pop-band Simon Says No! has signed to the fine Oslo Grammofon label, and will release an album on 13 September. A single called "Solitary Rush" will be released on 23 August. I was a bit surprised when I heard the news, because the band announced that they had disbanded a year ago. The band has decided to continue playing together, but Simon has said no! and left the band. The album is produced by Nick [...]

London's Nordic Music night Ja Ja Ja is blasting into 2K10 with another stellar line up of Nordic talent. On January 21st 2010 at central London venue The Lexington , three more excellent bands will be performing in a bid to impress the night's upbeat mix of music lovers, hipsters, industry insiders and regulars. Myspace // "Ecstatic" [Audio] // Aesthetics [Buy] Lately, it seems that a simple analogy could be used to sum up the musical preferences of two of the Scando territories: Sweden is to sunny pop what Norway is to dark shoegaze. Norway has taken over and added to this decade's shoegaze, especially when you look at bands like Sereena-Maneesh, Simon Says No, and the Megaphonic Thrift. Add to that list Maribel, [...]

Simon Says No! - Sleeping Heart This song is from their debut EP, Ahoi de Angst , recorded after guitarist Simon Oakland was hospitalised for mental illness. Now, after a slightly rejigged line-up, this Norweigan group have been touring America, impressing at SXSW , and preparing to record new material...and the EP still isn't out yet. Something tells me they have seen Dig! - this sounds like classic Dandy Warhols with a thumping debt to shoegaze. HT to the ever reliable OCMD [...]

Thanks again to all the bands that came into LA last night from places beyond to take part in the party. THE RUMBLE: LA had more bands in attendance than people I think - we saw PORTUGAL THE MAN, BLACKMARKET, Casey from DJANGO JAMES & THE MIDNIGHT SQUIRES, FILM SCHOOL, THE ANSWERING MACHINE, and LOVELIKEFIRE just to name a few. Thanks again for Ryan Suffern for taking photos, here are a few... Fresno's RADEMACHER doing their Talking Heads [...]

Get over to http://sonicliving.com/therumb le-LA and RSVP so you get into THE RUMBLE: LA for free tonight, or else don't both texting me at show time for the list - accept your fate and pay your $5 (it goes to the bands anyway). Who's playing? RADEMACHER bring their indie rock magic to the 3 Clubs in Hollywood, playing songs off their 'Stunts' album and some new surprises. All the way from Austin, Texas, THE FRONTIER BROTHERS [...]

[Birthday cheers today for Emmylou Harris , who, via her website, points well-wishers to her favorite charity, the Keeta Fund ...] It's a massive evening for shows, starting with biggies like Lily Allen at the Wiltern and Will Oldham, as Bonnie "Prince" Billy , at the El Rey Theatre. ... It's almost criminal that Billy is playing the same night as Jason Isbell (who is at Spaceland) and Robert Francis (at the Troubadour) — it's not a stretch to think [...]

We continue the trend of no fooling around this April so far with the LA edition of the Rumble taking place tonight at the 3 of Clubs. Simon Says No , who rocked our faces off last night in San Francisco, will be on hand for tonight's show, playing alongside Rademacher and The Frontier Brothers . DJ sets in between will be handled by DJ's Michael - yes, that is [...]

There's no April Foolin' going around here. We've got three great bands playing the Harlot tonight in San Francisco. Simon Says No are invading the country playing alongside our friends Leopold and His Fiction. DJ sets by Bagel Ted and Vin Sol are also in the cards. Get more details and RSVP for free over at the Future Sounds site.

Our posse hooked up with THE BAY BRIDGED for tonight's RUMBLE: SF at Harlot (46 Minna Street) and they linked us to LEOPOLD & HIS FICTION - a Bay area band that should be showing up everywhere soon enough. Norway's SIMON SAYS NO are also experiencing Haight Street at this moment, gearing up for their late night set this evening - I saw a Twitter from them that they were knee-deep in a drum circle on Hippie Hill already this [...]

Next Thursday night in Los Angeles, THE RUMBLE: LA returns for the April installment at 3 Club s with three great bands and our resident DJ's MiCHAEL , fresh from their SXSW trip where they killed it at HOT FREAKS and the PURE VOLUME closing night party. RADEMACHER , a band we've loved since stumbling on them in July of 2005 are finally getting the credit and attention they deserve, and are headlining the [...]

Next Wednesday at Harlot i n San Francisco, the Rumble returns with a band in from Norway called SIMON SAYS NO . I caught them at SXSW and if you're fans of bands like FILM SCHOOL, EDITORS or CHAVEZ . Our guest blogger this month is one of my favorite Bay area reads, THE BAY BRIDGED , and they booked LEOPOLD & HIS FICTION , a band we've been playing consistently since discovery on the FS show on WOXY. On the [...]

Oslo is not a huge city but it's easy to understand why it is a world leader in concerts per capita. For example, starting at the epicenter of the festival and within 3 block radius there are a literally a dozen venues. And not just tiny night clubs and discotheques either, but massive concert halls and auditoriums, some with multiple stages. So naturally it's a good burg to host around 500 gigs on a 3 day stretch with who knows how many thousand attendees. Tourism cataloging aside, By:Larm also brought in some brilliant minds and successful pros in [...]

>> And so here's your big Johnny Foreigner second album recording news. The band has wedged about three weeks of free-ish time between two tours in March, during which the Birmingham, England-based trio will begin recording its sophomore full-length with former Fudge Tunnel dude and British ex-pat Alex Newport, presumably in Brooklyn. Mr. Newport is known for producing or mixing music by Death Cab For Cutie , Rival Schools , Knapsack (hey, remember Knapsack ?), At The Drive-In , Piebald , The Melvins and Coco B's [...]
