Words: Simon Opie Punk is now just a style and the Sex Pistols were just a band, to quote Scroobius Pip . So what does the legacy of Punk mean in the 21st century? Well there's many who claim to have been influenced by it and there's some like Moral Dilemma who play it straight up. Those who belong in the latter camp tend to prosper rather better in the USA [...]
![Listen: Dan Mangan - About As Helpful... [New Single]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4282805_lg.jpg)
Words: Simon Opie I know next to nothing about Dan Mangan except he's from Vancouver, which I'm told is a great place to live, and his 2011 album 'Oh Fortune' is amazingly well put together. This song was one of my top tunes of 2011 and hey – there's a new video release for it and that's a great excuse to introduce it all over again. Mangan is aided [...]
Simone Felice's debut solo album is a simple, yet beautiful, invocation of the fragility and beauty of human life. I'm sitting on a train travelling from my hometown of Birmingham, heading to London, where I'm to catch a flight to Caracas, Venezuela. I'm incredibly excited by my impending journey although feeling a bit emotional about leaving my family behind at home for a little while. The rain is hammering down against the windows of the train, the weak April British sunshine bleeding into the black of the night the further south I get. All...

Words: Simon Opie I wanted to collect up some varied new music from the UK that's been coming in to FADED GLAMOUR Towers over the last few weeks and falling into the Altrock inbox. There's a lot going on and this is only a fraction but it's the part I feel is really worth passing on - featuring Static Plan , Since Monroe and Dissociates . First up is Guildford [...]

Torche – 'Harmonicraft' (UK Release: 23 April '12) // Words: Simon Opie The last time I reviewed Torche on FADED GLAMOUR I got jumped by an unknown assailant. So I approached new album 'Harmonicraft' with some trepidation. I have to say, three tracks in and trepidation had turned to a feeling of dread. But hey presto, 'Reverse Inverted' then takes the album off in a totally new, and unexpected direction – to my overwhelming relief. [...]

Words: Simon Opie // Photo: Nate Azark Cancer really is an implacable foe. What's more it makes no difference in the fight if you are wealthy, famous, talented or even all three. Which is why there was huge sadness at the news that Adam Yauch , aka MCA of the Beastie Boys , had lost his 3-year battle with the disease at the young age of 47. It really is a horrible way to die. [...]
We recently brought you the Nicky Romero remix of Eva Simons new tune, "I Dont Like You". Now we're back to bring you R3HAB's remix. While Nicky Romero put his own twist on the song, R3HAB took it one step further. The massive first chorus will make everyone sing along, then followed by the second drop which will punch you in your stomach and really put your night at a high point. As a bonus, we've included a new Laidback Luke remix that will all you dirty dutch fans smile.
Words: Simon Opie CLOWNS share capitals with FADED GLAMOUR and band members with several star turns of the Brighton scene. They don't exactly share their sound, but it's in the Speedball Baby / John Spencer Blues Explosion ballpark. They are reputedly wild live and are playing the Silver Bullet in N7 on Sunday. Get a feel for them by listening to a couple of tracks below. A gig not to [...]

For those of you who loved "Metropolis" and "Toulouse" from Nicky Romero, we have another big remix that he did for the one and Only Eva Simon's. If your scratching your head at why that name sounds familiar, she's the vocalist on Afrojack's anthem, "Take Over Control". Did we mention the original is produced by no other than Zedd? You can look forward to this track coming out on Interscope Records May 5th. For now, enjoy the preview! https://www.facebook.com/djnic kyromero https://www.facebook.com/evasi monsmusic https://www.facebook.com/Zedd

Graham Coxon – 'A+E' (UK Release: 2 April '12) // Words: Simon Opie For his eighth solo album Graham Coxon , Blur veteran and one of the very best guitar players around, pulls off a remarkable stunt. 'A+E' is an album brimming with vitality and creative energy that absolutely none of his contemporaries, and very few who've come since, can match. First off, I like the fact that after his [...]

Shpongle is returning to the City with EOTO and Phutureprimitive for a massive 4/20 show that's not to be missed. If you're looking to turn an already epic day into something memorable, then I would definitely suggest checking out all that Shpongle has to offer. You can count on things getting pretty freaky that night, with [...]

Formerly of Duke & The King and New York folk-rockers The Felice Brothers, songwriter Simone Felice goes it alone with the release of his self-titled debut solo album. Drawing inspiration from his time with these bands, but sounding different too, it's a record that you'd classify under the catch-all term of 'alt-country'. Largely self-produced, each track is driven along by a country blues rhythm, with both quiet introspective moments and louder expressionism. Felice mainly uses guitar and his syrupy voice, with a little piano, drums and the occasional backing vocal,to craft a distinctly American sound. This is [...]

Words: Simon Opie Where there's muck there's brass as my gran used to say, and appropriately I've been musing on how the fates have been kind to her favourite heavy metal band, Iron Maiden . He's such a nice boy that Bruce Dickinson , she would say, and in a recent edition of Metal Hammer there's a photo of him in the cockpit of his 757, resplendent in his pilot's uniform, that would have made her so proud. [...]

The Mars Volta – 'Noctourniquet' (UK Release: 26 March '12) // Words: Simon Opie The Mars Volta and their musical leader Omar Rodriguez-Lopez have been to the well an awful lot in the last nine years, between them notching up well over a dozen albums. Amazingly, without any dimming of enthusiasm. Nonetheless, 'Noctourniquet' is the first album in quite a while to approach the brilliance of their early work. [...]
Former Felice Brothers member goes solo in NYC.
Well, we made it through Winter – although you wouldn't notice here in Seattle on the first day of Spring 2012.

Restlesslist live at Power Lunches, London (17 March '12) // Words: Simon Opie // Photo: Heidi Johnson Celebrating St Patrick's Day with a musical story about an itinerant Scotsman's fantastic seafaring adventures performed in a small room by an eight-piece band from Brighton turned out to be a truly brilliant idea. Dalston's funky, compact bar Power Lunches had been taken over on the night for the purposes of 'The Triangulation Of The 5th Dimension' , an event featuring an excellent [...]
