Anthony Gonzalez is back (finally) with a brand new synth-laden, nu-gazy track called "Midnight City." The song is hella reminiscent of "Kim and Jessie" off of his Saturdays = Youth album, what with machine shriek samples and overall channeling of 80s pop rock (think Simple Mind). Morgan Kibby's back on too for some shared vocals. A notable departure though is how there's a more uplifting, inspirational feel to the words that contrasts well with his usual dreariness. Over the long weekend, I was hoping to get in on some of the sales that were going on- specifically Guitar Center in Cedar Rapids, and the full-weekend 20% sale at Half-Price Books. New Gold Dream is the fifth studio album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds. I was reminded of this by new blog Method of Dance posting the Interference remix of the track, from the War Babies single in 1998 (see here ). The original track from the Sister Feelings Call album has barely dated from 1981. Its electro stylings still sounding relevant today. The Interference mix is by Tim Simenon and Keith LeBlanc. That mix is a bit recognisably mid-90s with its acid additions, extra bassline and drum patterns. But it does keep some of the original choppy guitar. Period charm, I guess. EMI has issued a press release that features some results of its charity auction for Japan disaster relief , in which the label says over 200 artists participated by donating personal items and memorabilia. A couple weeks back, I was poking around for info on the '80s cult movie Straight To Hell and most of what I found also mentioned another '80s cult movie - Repo Man - mentioned.
