Photos by G. Peter Wolf I know what you are thinking - Michael Jackson is dead. The above photo might look like Michael, but it's rock god Peter Wolf! The former front man of the J. Geils Band performed at New York's Bowery Ballroom on October 26, 2011. For the first time in my New York concert going experiences at Bowery Ballroom, the show was seated. I think it worked in this setting because the show was so intimate. Peter Wolf told stories in between songs [...]

Photo by G. Kelly Osbourne being nice to a fan whilst a security guard disapproves. Earlier this year, I went to the premiere of the Ozzy Osbourne documentary "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne" (which was fantastic, by the way),and the scene was pretty crazy. Paparazzi were everywhere and security was freaking out. As security tends to do at these things, they like to assert their Five Dollar An Hour Power and make it impossible for fans to chat with the stars. My friend is a big fan [...]
I'm all about counter programming. On rainy days, I like to play tracks that don't necessarily remind of me of gloomy times, but instead, tracks that remind me of how wonderful it is to be in the summer light. Enter the John Steel Singers . A six piece band from Australia, the land that is forever dry and rain free, the John Steel Singers sound pretty much what their band name would suggest - fun, joyous harmonic tracks with a sprinkle of horns. This track, called Overpass comes from their [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music , New Releases Vanguard Records Chris Isaak has some advice for youngsters looking to play that old-time rock 'n' roll -- you'd better know how to sing. "A lot of bands don't have a good singer," says the 55-year-old crooner behind such hits as 'Wicked Game' and 'Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing.' "It's like a team without a good pitcher or [...]

We're a little late to this one, but Australian band the John Steel Singers are best known for their '60s-flavored pop, falsettos, and sky-high harmonies. They recently released their debut album Tangalooma and it is a brilliant combination of indie rock meets dance-a-long pop, whilst maintaining their feel for unassumingly darker storylines. This has been their trademark on hits such as Overpass, Rainbow Kraut and The Masochist . Tangalooma showcases a real depth of songwriting and is as lasting and infectious as ever. Give them a try. Photo by G. VV Brown Happy birthday to British singer VV Brown! Her 2010 debut album "Travelling Like The Light" made my best albums of the year list. She's got funk, soul, pop and R&B in her music and she's fantastic live. Why she didn't strike it big in the USA when non-talented singers like Rihanna rule the charts is beyond say! VV Brown's 2nd album will be coming out later this year or early 2012 and I am really looking forward to it. Happy birthday [...]

Here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending October 23 - 29. Well there is no change this week. With all the hype surrounding Rich Aucoin's new album "We're All Dying To Live". I can't stop listening to the lead single "IT" and remains at #1 for the second week. Such a fun dancey track. There are new debuts from The Wooden Sky and Grimes. Check out this week's top 10. This Week [...]

Photo and autograph courtesy of the G Archives. Weird Al Yankovic In addition to growing up and loving the song parodies of today's birthday boy, Weird Al Yankovic, he goes down in G history as the first concert I ever attended. The show was at Knott's Scary Farm in California and Elvira was the opening act! Wow! Making the night even better, and this must have been a precursor of things to come for my concert life – I sat in the front row. During Weird Al's performance of "Like [...]

Rebekah Higgs returned to Ottawa for her own show at Zaphod Beeblebrox. It was sort of an album release for her second album Odd Fellowship which came out in August. Last time I saw Rebekah played in Ottawa was in May. It was a great set filled with fun catchy indie pop tunes. Great hearing Little Voice and Gosh, Darn, Damn live. She sure knows how to captivate an audience. [...]

Ottawa now living in Toronto Eastborough played at Zaphod Beeblebrox on October 21, 2011. Apparently they were the last minute band opening up for Rebekah Higgs . Last time I saw them live was about two years ago or so. The band sounded great with it's new Toronto lineup. Here are the photos.

Rumors are going around that Chris Brown didn't get to perform at the massive Michael Jackson tribute concert in Wales this past weekend because he was banned from the UK. The R&B singer says that his criminal record didn't play a role as to why he wasn't able to perform. His reps say that Chris was invited to perform in the show, "however, his previously booked domestic F.A.M.E. tour concert dates didn't allow him to accept the honor and therefore he never planned to go to the UK. He was not banned." The rep points out that Chris was performing [...]

Surprised that Florence + The Machine 's What The Water Gave Me didn't make a big splash in the UK and USA singles chart. Probably it was too long and epic. I still prefer this track than Shake It Out. Check out the demo version of What The Water Gave Me . Has more of the electronic side. Have a listen to the original version of What The Water Gave Me , Heartlines and No Light, No Light
Taylor Swift has been given the honor of being named as Billboard's Woman of the Year. I'm not really surprised as no one else in the music business has as much star power, raw talent and personality as the country singer. In past years, the award has gone to the likes of Beyonce, Reba McEntire and Fergie, but the award is extra special for Taylor as she is the youngest in history to be given the honor. She will be honored formally at the 2011 Billboard Women in Music event in New York on December 2. Congratulations Taylor! You deserve [...]

Rihanna is featured on the cover of the November 2011 issue of British Vogue. In the accompanying interview, the 23-year old R&B singer, who wore Armani Prive on the cover, talked about her controversial videos, saying "That's not me. That's a part I play. You know, like it's a piece of art… I just want to make music." Rihanna also touched on growing up with a drug addicted parent, saying "I saw too much. I was way too mature for my age." For more of the interview, as well as her amazing photo spread, make sure to pick up a [...]
![Live Music from Ottawa Fashion Week 2011 S/S 2012 Collection [Sept 29 - Oct 1]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3798668_lg.jpg)
I didn't get around to these photos from Ottawa Fashion Week 2011 's Spring/Summer 2012 Collection. Live music was happening during the intermission of the event. This year there was a load of acts that played. One I missed was Orphan Pool (aka Lidija from Roberta Bondar). September 30th: May-Jun Samantha Chan September 30th: Sound of Lions [...]
