By Stef Siepel May 16, 2013 If you follow our Twitter feed , you will have seen this one pass: A short documentary by Red Bull Music Academy of twelve years of DFA . It's a must see. Not because of its in-depth look into the music industry (it isn't), nor for great reveals or juicy back stories (it hasn’t). But because - in all its lightness, fun, and short running time - you do get an idea of (and have to marvel at) how such a small [...]

Titulado 12 Years of DFA: Too Old To Be New, Too New To Be Classic , el documental cuenta con entrevistas a los fundadores de [...]

The "watch" tag in the headline is a bit of a tease as there's nothing really to watch right this second other than this rather short teaser. Red Bull Music Academy put together a short film about James Murphy and his New York City based imprint, DFA. The film features music and appearances by LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Holy Ghost!, The Juan MacLean, Sh*t Robot, YACHT, Sinkane and more and will be premiered on May 8th on Red Bull Music Academy . That's this Wednesday, mark your calendars. You might also like: [...]

In a week that presented us some great new hopes for summer, the buzz news cycles found us giving some heart while scratching our heads in aggravation and ambivalence. We send our best to Abraham Orellana, aka AraabMuzik, who is recovering after getting shot as a victim of an attempted robbery, continue to mourn the loss of Slayer's founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman and Kriss Kross's Chris Kelly, and roll our eyes at another bloated exercise of bottom-of-the-barrel branding polemics with ...

Check out the beautiful video for Sinkane's latest single "Warm Spell", one of the finest moments off his debut album "Mars", which was released last year on DFA. As a bonus, you can download a supeb remix of the track from up-and-coming Greek-born, Milan-based producer Panagiotis Melidis, aka Larry Gus . Ride on! Directed by Philip Di Fiore. Download here

Two of DFA's newbies collide here, Larry Gus sprinkling his psychedelic dust all over Sinkane's 'Warm Spell'. A summer smash if ever I heard one. Also check out Larry's album on DFA if you haven't already, it's available for nish. The kind of record Animal Collective would make if they took copious amounts of magic mushrooms (which they may well have done to be fair).
Ahmed Gallab and his new project SINKANE present the new music video for their latest single Warm Spell. photo by Dave Lichterman The XX have a new slow burning sultry track "Together" created for the upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby . Unlike previous songs this one for the film becomes almost drone like - "together" they sing over and over, while a backing score swells over, classically dramatic in the most perfect cinematic way. Also interesting to note - the whole soundtrack was curated by Jay-Z. [ Pitchfork ] Just in case [...]
Last month, Sinkane shocked the world, and himself a bit also, in being pulled onstage by Usher to sing a Sinkane song (" Runnin' ") in front of a confused (but excited!) SXSW audience. Your 'Gum crew was 100% present, and the wow factor on it having happened is still high all these weeks later. So it is a particularly good time for Ahmed Gallab to step up with his most beautifully rendered video to date; there are probably more eyes on him now than ever. "Warm Spell," a standout from his DFA debut LP [...]

Remember last month when we made a hand-wringing post about the death of the MP3 and thereby the end of the downloadable Monthly Mix? Well, fuck it - ZIP FILE BACK. Thank you for your comments and opinions! This is blog-in-action. But, we know some of you enjoyed the ease and increased songchoice represented by our Spotify playlist, and so guess what SPOTIFY BACK too. And we ALSO realize some of you can't/won't access Spotify but also want to see a playlist that isn't limited just to MP3s because that can be arbitrarily restrictive with respect to the [...]
A quick video diary of our time at the the SXSW festival 2013, featuring Sinkane, Delorean, Wampire and Suuns.
A song’s genealogy doesn’t always have relevance, but this song is so scattered it would be a disservice not to mention it. Sinkane who was born in Sudan, raised in Ohio, and now lives in Brooklyn where he is signed to James Murphy’s punk-dance disco label DFA records. The track, "Warm Spell", was then remixed [...]
