I read Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code at least a year after all the hype and hysteria had died down. I enjoyed the speculative nature of it, especially the whole Mary Magdelene debate and while it was criticised for its historical inaccuracy, it didn't worry me too much as it was a fun and entertaining read. I then went back and read Angels And Demons which I found to be a much better book, though both follow exactly the same formula: symbologist Robert Langdon is [...]
We really need to start checking our email inbox on a more frequent and/or thorough basis. If it weren't for a friendly follow-up message from today's featured artist, our little music world could have easily remained stagnant for the balance of this weekend. Sir Salvatore is the San Francisco, California based trio of David Lean (guitar, vocals), Alejandro Soini (drums, bass, vocals) and Eric
Here's the new official video from Sir Salvatore for their cut titled "Parallelevator". This is off of their * Good Luck Charm * EP which was recently released and is still available for you all to purchase HERE via iTunes for only $5.94 Pigeons and Planes

I'm getting this post out early this morning then heading out the door for my last week of work before a week of vacation. Well, more like time off, really – not like I'm taking a real vacation; I will unfortunately be staying in and around town. This go-round with the mailbox yielded up a couple of artists I've written about before: Sir Salvatore and Leerone have both previously graced these pages and both have new music out that you should be aware of. I've also gotten a handful of country contributions lately. That [...]

( Editor's note: Bit of a switch on this Lazy Saturday. Instead of all live cuts, we've got introductions to two bands you need to know about and one lonely live track. Just wanted to keep you in the loop. The dude above loves his lawn. Good for him. I hate mine. ) I've written in the past that one of the best things about writing for Citizen Dick is the level of exposure I get to bands that I might not otherwise hear. This week San Fransisco trio Sir Salvatore dropped a copy of their recently released [...]

It's mid-July, and here come the tomatoes! Little grape tomatoes, pear-shaped yellow tomatoes, and gobs of the most ginormous tomatoes I have ever grown. The big one above is almost the size of a softball. This is only what I picked yesterday. A lot more are on the way. Soon we will be eating them for lunch and dinner and on our breakfast cereal and giving them away to neighbors and co-workers. Sadly, I cannot figure out how to make them available to you for download. This photo is the only way they digitize. [...]

Sir Salvatore is an indie rock band out of San Fran, Cali. I got an email from their drummer Alejandro yesterday with two cuts off of their latest EP titled * Good Luck Charm *. One titled "Fireflies, Reading Books" & the other titled "Modern Consequences", and both caught me instantly. Alejandro stated that their sound is like: " Pixies, Radiohead, Pavement, and The Cribs blended with rubbing alcohol & wheatgrass! " I would say that description is pretty on point!!! You can check out those two tracks below. Also below is the [...]
We received an e-mail from Sir Salvatore yesterday with a track from their new EP which is out now and is called Good Luck Charm. They describe their influences as the Pixies, Radiohead, Pavement, and The Cribs blended with rubbing alcohol and wheatgrass! We played the track and liked it, and thought you might too. California indie rockers Sir Salvatore describe their sound as 'Pixies, Radiohead, Pavement, and The Cribs blended with rubbing alcohol and wheatgrass'. Now doesn't that sound tasty. A quick listen to the track "Firefllies, Reading Books" from their new Good Luck Charm EP sounds like Gordon Gano standing in for Black Francis.Check it out for yourself:"Fireflies, Reading Books"- MP3Sir

Updated the muxtape... midyear favorites : The year is past halfway so I figured it was time to sift through what I've been listening to and pull out some favorites. Some of this stuff wasn't new this year but it was new to me because I'm behind the times… Run Dan Run — Your Name Escapes Me The Go Find — Dictionary The Submarines — Brightest Hour Lilofee — Lock and Key [...]

O n their Continental Breakfast EP, Sir Salvatore (from San Francisco) dishes out some lazily kinetic indie rock that tastes a little like Chin Up Chin Up, Division Day, or even The Smiths. Not that Sir Salvatore really sounds anything like any of those bands, but you get the idea. I've heard their sound described as, "Tapes N' Tapes having an Oxford Collapse but rising like a Phoenix from The Cribs," whatever that means. This 5-song EP (their second) is a digital only release and a pretty damn strong overall effort full [...]

As I pull open the lid on the Licorice Pizza mailbox, it dawns on me that I've got to find some way to make this less burdensome and easier to read. The "mailbox" posts seem a little busy and unorganized, at least to me. So I'm going to try simplifying things, giving you some music, a very brief description of what/who the band is, then giving you a link to their respective site. That way, if you're interested, you can explore more on your own. And I'm not bogging things down so much. Moving on. ~~~~~ [...]
They sound their best when they hit the shoegaze button the hardest, but that's not to say that they ever sound bad. This little quartet out of San Francisco consists of Tim Botsford, David Lean, Alejandro Soini, Eric Szyslowski, and dash of self deprecating humour {which I guess makes them a quintet, but who's arguing semantics?}. This is their sophomore effort, Continental Breakfast ( iTunes ), and I reckon their sound would tighten up and improve if they were to undertake a proper full length. If this little slice of four and a half songs that comes in just under [...]

San Francisconians (is that written right...?) Sir Salvatore have released a new EP called Continental Breakfast . The 5 songs are all pretty good, with Ambalina being the stand-out-track for me. The new EP as well as the older one can now be purchased on iTunes and eMusic; just check the homepage for information. Here are some tasters from both EPs: http://www.sirsalvatore.com/ http://www.myspace.com/sirsalv atore [...]

Sir Salvatore are newcomers from San Francisco. At first, they sounded to me like a less-polished version of the Strokes. And, as I listen to them more, I think that comparison is still valid. These are upbeat songs with catchy guitar lines. If you can get past the rough vocals, you'll be pulled in by the tight group sound that the band has achieved on their first two EPs. I look forward to hearing more from them in the future, as this is merely the beginning. Sir Salvatore - Ambalina [...]
Wednesday, January 23, 2008 Things have gotten insane. Every moment that I catch up with all of the quality stuff in my inbox I turn around and it's filled the brim again. There's no stopping the goods! It must have something to do with the zaniness surrounding Tom Brady and his hurt foot. Or something. Anyhow, here is an EP for your listening pleasure. Enjoy. : Flowers Forever - Black Rosary : The press release that came with this song is one [...]
