So this is the girl i'm going to marry. I know she's way out of my league, but i think if i compliment her enough, she might just recognize me one day. Ok well thats all a joke, but i legit love Ellie Goulding. This British songstress is a musical genius and has little competition in my books for someone whose got as versatile a voice as she. Really, everything about this cover is brilliant and considering the number of covers that Ellie has done and their recognition vs. this, i'd say that Roscoe was done the best [...]

I love 'Carol Of The Bells' and I think that's mostly down to watching 'Home Alone' countless times as a kid, especially around Christmas time. The song and the movie are forever linked in my mind. It's quite a haunting kind of carol too when you think about it, and in the hands of The Bird & The Bee it's almost creepy! Have a listen and see what you reckon. Carol Of The Bells - The Bird And The Bee [...]

Gainesville, FL’s Sister Hazel (vocalist Ken Block, guitarist/vocalist Drew Copeland, lead guitarist Ryan Newell, drummer Mark Trojanowski and bassist Jett Beres) just released their 8th studio album “Heartland Highway” on October 12th. Beres describes the album as “American road trip music” (“listening to it is what it feels like to be on a road trip across America”) while Copeland suggests, “It’s one of those discs you can put on and listen to front to back.” Concurs Block: “We spend a lot of time on journeys as a band – literally and figuratively. We spend a lot of time [...]

Gloriously retro, a bit camp, some laid back cool and of course some uber-prog. Music - Arts - United States - Atlanta - Musical ensemble
The November 16th show of Mountain Stage featured Vagabond Opera , Brett Dennen , Eric Bibb , Madison Violet , and Sister Hazel. I was most excited about seeing Vagabond Opera, and they were fantastic! As expected, the kooky cabaret band put on a fun and dazzling set of songs from their new album, The Zeitgeist Beckons . Their colorful costumes and theatrics were fit for Vaudeville, and lead singer Eric Stern's voice was astounding live. Their set was as entertaining for the eyes as it was the ears. [...]

Not blessed with too much time this weekend between some plans for today and Tuesday's launch of Discovery , so we'll just post up some music and see what sticks with everyone. Planning on being able to post again towards the end of next week as hopefully the launch will go off as scheduled and I can enjoy a long holiday weekend. Hope to see you then! • • • • As I've mentioned a couple of times, Genna Giacobassi of [...]

Don't forget: Logo submissions due Monday! Enter now to win prizes! When creating this post I wondered whether it was irresponsible to post songs about cocaine. Going through my list though, my worries faded. These songs are uniformly negative! One guy shoots his wife under the influence, another gets locked up in a room with padded walls, and a third wrecks a train. So no arguments about glorifying the rock and roll lifestyle please because, yeesh, sounds terrible. [...]

Is it Tuesday already? I spent hours yesterday making a Wolf Parade photo page and updating the photos on the main index page for our domain name. A significant number of readers find us this way. On the main index page, each photo links to the concert post. So, I really have nothing special created for Time Travel Tuesday today, and I'm going to take the lazy route and post some cover songs. The Cars' debut [...]

I kid you not...I arrived home this evening, opened up the mailbox, and had campaign donation solicitations from both Clintons, John McCain, Barack Obama, Rudy Giuliani, John Edwards, Mitt Roomney & Tommy Thompson. This is just in Monday's mail. It seemed the only candidate, or candidate wanna-be, that didn't send me something was Fred Thompson, so out of sheer appreciation of his group not hitting me up for some money, I'll probably vote for him. Then again, the mail will come again tomorrow. Tonight's replay is a couple of songs from the 2000 release by Sister Hazel, Fortress. [...]
