In this edition of your favorite forward thinking bass cornucopia, I have the pleasure, nay, the privilege to bring you some exclusive tunes from the one and only Top Billin label aka Europe's modest club kings. These tracks are from a newly announced compilation dubbed "Premium Crates 2". The niche that Top Billin nails could be put as simply this, "music that will get ANY party moving". Attempting to sound like the musical equivalent of a well-kept mature bottle of wine or a 25 year old vintage barrel of whisky, Lance Herbstrong reminds us of their debut LP which opens up those wide & colourful memories and harvests those translucent meadows of Johnny Osbourne uptempo reggae-addictiveness, and Cypress Hill / Stereo MC’s “born-to-fuse-together” blends of connoisseur authority. Leading the way through eleven simplicities of electronic eclecticism, there is enough here for spontaneously arranged evening parties, or full-on back room shindigs that end up so packed - they filter on through to [...]

Following on from Homeboy Sandman's effort from a few weeks back, New Jersey rhyme animal Pace Won rumbles in today with his offering for Ricky Shabazz and the Boom Bap Boys' upcoming Free Shabazz 2 project . Pace brings a broducer by the name of Mr. Green along for the ride, with the beats man lining up a chunky Sister Nancy sample to create a little reggaefied sing-along number by the name of 'Nancy' (see what they did there? Of course you did. You're smarter than I [...]

Despite having been absent from the public eye for much of the last several years, Lauryn Hill is still a musical treasure of our generation. Her effortless command of the mic is unique and exceptional. On the Fugee’s tracks, there was no question of who the standout was. Lauryn dominated. Her raw talent made her a star; which cannot be said for most of today’s “stars”. I dig her sound tremendously and for that reason I deliver to you these jammers. Enjoy. So Much for Doo Wop - Lauryn Hill vs Gramatik - The [...]

My parents brought back a few CD's from their trip to Jamaica, and the one that I liked the most was the one with "Golden Hits" scribbled on it's face. Only one problem: no track names. I know a few of the songs, but lets make it a little fun. See if you can figure out the song titles and artist, mostly just by your own knowledge and ear for good music. Try not to cheat!! Who knows, maybe we'll even send you some iLS stickers.... Enjoy: Track 01 [...]

Sleazy McQueen is one of those rare artists you stumble across and don't want to tell anyone about (but for some reason you run a narcissistic blog that you've named after yourself ... and you feel compelled to shout about it). Sleazy McQueen's disco edits, often popping up on the superb Whiskey Disco imprint, aren't just your run-of-the-mill edits (a sprinkling of hollow percussion here, a faint kick drum there...). No, the difference is they're unique, inventive and a lot of fun. Sleazy McQueen whacks a whopping great big beat, chugging and old school, [...]

My favorite track off Idiot Glee's new album Paddywhack premiered yesterday on You Ain't No Picasso —"Trouble At The Dancehall." According to Matt's post , the track was written around a loop of Sandy Nelson’s instrumental surf rock-ish song “Teen Beat." Perhaps I read too much into the word "dancehall," but when I previously listened to the Idiot Glee track I envisioned a young white guy doing his take on Jamaican dancehall music, especially that syncopated beat and "Wanna be with you girl" line. I guess that just goes to prove how subjective the [...]
