Disco, Disco, Disco is the sole agenda from Over The Top this Monday (and any other day of the week for that matter) as he lays upright & relentlessly to rip up the whole, damn rulebook, continues on obeying his forefathers, and invents a whole new ingenious route – in the process! We're still in heavens bosom following his "it-should-be-signed-after-h earing-the-very-first-chord" bootleg of The Strokes, so kick back (not too hard) and discover yet again the intense imagination from Over The Top (aka "Sire" Lincoln Hawk.) On this day, twenty-one years ago, the WHITNEY HOUSTON scores her 9th US #1 single in just over five years with her version of the SISTER SLEDGE mp3, ALL THE MAN THAT I NEED .

It was in a place called The Video Café in London's West End that I first became aware of Whitney Houston. In 1985 the concept of a restaurant playing video promos of pop music on big screens was still so novel as to present a special gastronomic experience. So I heard, and saw, Whitney singing How Will I Know there. She wouldn't bother the British charts for another few months when she topped the charts with her cover of Marilyn McCoo's Saving All My Love. We know the [...]

French lingerie brand Etam pulled out all the stops at their Paris Fashion Week runaway show recruiting Grace Jones , Chaka Khan , Sister Sledge , Gloria Gaynor & The Pointer Sisters to model outfits and perform on the runaway! Grace Jones alone would have been enough to get me excited but when you add Chaka Khan who is another of my favorite divas, and some of disco's finest in the mix, [...]

So, after four months of virtually non-stop global touring, this decade's surprise reunion success story wrapped up at the weekend as the all-new Atari Teenage Riot closed 2011 with one final gig and festive party at Hamburg's Gruenspan. click here to watch clip Now bizarrely, the idea of ATR throwing a Christmas party was met with about the same level of criticism among online fandom as if Alec's suggestion had been; „So the plan is to charge 80 bucks a ticket, play only two songs [...]

A cornicopia of re-edited, re-worked and remixed disco infused treats, largely from the 70s and 80s. Funk-de-funk! I've really enjoyed making this and I really hope you enjoy listening! Recently I've been coming across some fantastic re-edits and remixes of some old favourites from the 70s and 80s. In particular, there's some great work from The Revenge and Dimitri From Paris. The best finds are the more subtle re-edits that retain most aspects of the original and stretch and mould the best parts into something for the dancefloor. I've really enjoyed making this and I really hope you enjoy listening! Tape #8: Funky Town [...]

Photo by Barbara Crane Sometimes there's these days where all you want to do is put on an amazing disco record that was remixed by (the master of disco) Dimitri From Paris and sit back/dance/enjoy/etc., right? If today would be such a day, then you're in for a treat. This remix was released as part of the 4CD ' The Chic Organization ' boxset that actually shouldn't be missing in any disco fancier's collection, yet since the price tag might hold some people (e.g.: me) back, there was a digital release of the [...]

Together they do this funky cosmic disco touch of edits and reworks of both old disco tracks from 70s and 80s but also of newer music such as Dana Bergquist, and of course they also produce original tracks of their own. Today [...]

Oprah Winfrey is pulling out all the stops on the final season of her talk show. On her show today the queen of talk played host to goddesses of the music industry, and their contemporary counterparts. Joan Jett , Pat Benetar , Stevie Nicks , and Salt N' Pepa , were among the lovely ladies to hit the stage. The biggest surprise for me, was the pairing of legendary rocker Joan Jett, and former Hannah Montana actress/singer [...]

When she is in the moment, literally it's like magic flying about all over the place and on stage. It simply doesn't get any better. Steve Anderson is a pop nerd's goldmine. Known today as a songwriter, a producer, and a musical director (amongst other job titles), Anderson's career actually took off in the late '802s as a remixer, acting as one-half of the popular remix outfit, Brothers in Rhythm along with Dave Seaman . Working out mixes for some of the most popular [...]
