Hey there! You should read this original post on the hill by going here: Three Six Mafia vs. Dazz Band - Let It Stay Fly (Skratch Bastid Blend) Ugh, have I ever mentioned that spring in Halifax is mighty god damn depressing? Well if I know you IRL, as the kids say, then surely you know I have, cause I love to bitch about it. Well we're on our 3rd straight day of a rain & cool temperatures combo, so I could use a pick-me-up song. Here's a dandy from the legendary Skratch Bastid which [...]
Considering how much new music graces these ears on the daily, it's ironic a blend of two songs I've heard hundreds of times is the best track to come my [...]
Another Stay Fly mashup. You need this one though. Real Talk. Call me the Juice and ya know imma stunt.

If your Monday still isn't exciting enough let's Turn it Up . This is a beat heavy one from Pip Skid's latest People Are the Worst . I like to pretend I have lots of bling while waving my hands to the beats of this song. Pip Skid- Turn it Up (feat. Skratch Bastid)
Another Marley Bday song. This is the jam. It's a mashup of War's "Slipping into Darkness" vs Bob Marley's "Get Up, Stand Up". It's exquisite. If you listen close, you may be able to find Dave Chappelle's "Darkness" sample. There's two types of mashups I look for. The supermash, at least that's what I call it, is a grip of samples sewn together to make one seamless flow of musical goodness. The other, is around two or so tracks placed so well on top of one another that it sounds better than its original. I especially love when it takes vocals to a completely different style & genre. So in this Best Mashups of 2011, we're got about five of each. With styles ranging from rap to nu-disco, the only thing consistent in [...]
Right when Rolling Papers was primed for burn and Wiz's career was sky high, I remember coming across the first mention of he and Chevy's "Taylor Gang" anthem and being [...]

Can you have too much Jody Watley? Of course you can't, and Skratch Bastid knows this, so he came up with this ingenious Jody Wately/KMD blend for his last mixtape . MP3:: Jody Watley - Looking For a New Love (Skratch Bastid's Kausing Much Damage Remix) WEB:: www.skratchbastid.com

New fresh one from Skratch Bastid. Wiz Khalifa / Rustie - Taylor Gang / City Star (Skratch Bastid Blend) by Skratch Bastid

When we heard the new Rustie album , we were already thinking about the next collaborations wish list . Apparently, Skratch Bastid was thinking the same thing. Great minds think alike. The "City Star" production is so packed full of muscle that it almost overpowers the skinny stoner MC, but it still sounds pretty cool. Check it out below. Wiz Khalifa / Rustie - Taylor Gang / City Star (Skratch Bastid Blend)

So far I've tried to highlight a few of the HPX '11 events that will satisfy those with a hip hop jones in their bones, but I've neglected to mention one particular evening dedicated to one of the 4 (traditionally, but now 5!) elements of hip hop: DJing. Thursday, October 20th you can hit the New Palace for the Red Bull Thr3Style DJ competition which will feature many of our city's finest DJs (and FYI, per-capita, we likely produce more excellent DJs than anywhere in Canada, nay, North America - that's just a fact, you can look it [...]

When it comes to mixtapes Skratch Bastid doesn't play. He just unleashed his latest project which features a plethora of early 902s Hip Hop classics. We'll let him tell you about it: "Issue #22 of international kick-head bible Sneaker Freaker magazine features a 17-page spotlight on Starter athletic wear and how it changed the sports fashion game. To accompany the story, they asked me to make a mix featuring rap jams from Starter's prime, 1989-1993, to be included with the magazine in physical form. It features classic & overlooked bangers from one of hip-hop's golden eras, alongside [...]

Time to rewind and revisit some classics. Skratch Bastid knows his shit, so this should be good. Issue #22 of international kick-head bible Sneaker Freaker magazine features a 17-page spotlight on Starter athletic wear and how it changed the sports fashion game. To accompany the story, Bastid has made a mix featuring rap jams from Starter's prime, 1989-1993, to be included with the magazine in physical form. Mixed and cut-up in Bastid's signature style, it features classic & overlooked bangers from one of hip-hop's golden eras, alongside some of the original tunes they sampled and [...]

Back in 2007, Winnipeg held one of the first RED BULL THRE3STYLE events and I covered the show as a journalism student. Since then, Red Bull expanded the dj competition world-wide with national and international stages of battle. Once again, I'm excited to part of it, albeit in a new role, as one of the local judges. The thre3style is an interesting concept. Get a whack-load of djs together where each of them play a 15 minute set that has to cross three genres. This year Winnipeg's event has a mix of [...]
This here, is a Hastings Set Quick Strike, which I'm guessing is a series of quick drops that they'll be releasing throughout the year. This first one features Canadian DJ Skratch Bastid on the decks while the track is produced by one of the founders of The Hastings Set, Chin Injeti. His name sound familiar? [...]

Skratch Bastid is a DJ that believes in quality over quantity, as seen with the release of his well known mixtapes. He doesn't just mix a bunch of tracks together, he recreates songs and adds his own to touch to well known classics. He's also good at making solid mash ups too. Couldn't have picked a more suitable title for his latest release 'The Entertainer' which features a gumbo of Genres with a tasty result. From Hip Hop to Pop to Soul Classics, Skratch Bastid cuts and chops up the tracks with ease. Always worth the listen [...]
