I'm taking a 24-hour break from photo sharing because it's Sunday and I might be lynched by my readers if I don't offer a mix tape for download. I think there's only one (maybe two?) more days worth of photos to share, then I'll get back in the swing of regular updates about how "indie" [...]
![| Discos | Skullflower: Fucked On A Pile Of Corpses [Cold Spring, 2011]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3779549_lg.jpg)
The Phoenix-born Northern California/Brooklyn-based noisemakers Servile Sect play "sci-fi influenced black metal." It's even more awesome than that sounds. The band, featuring Luke Krnkr (one half of ITHI) and Ash Borer's Nhate Clmnt, previously released two full-lengths (and one EP), the last one Realms Of The Queen via Ecstatic Peace. Album three Trvth is out now in an edition of 250 courtesy of R. Loren's trusty Handmade Birds imprint. (I gave Trvth a mention at the start of my Top 26 Metal Albums Of 2011 So Far because it's another favorite, one [...]

Sorry, this is the best I can do. And since I'm on holiday this weekend too, you'll take what you're given and bloody like it. If I've missed anything, comment away. Tuesday 14th September - Skullflower , Fordell Research Unit , Noma and Scrim at Banshee Labyrinth "Ritualistic feedback and guitar decomposition". A co-promote from like-minded purveyors of weirdo sounds Braw Gigs and Winners Dinnae Shiver. Matthew would hate it. Which makes it even better for the rest of [...]
Nothing but an intense wall of guitar noise.

Skullflower Strange Keys to Untune Gods' Firmament (2010, Neurot) RIYL =Yellow Swans, Kevin Drumm, Millipede The album title sums it up quite beautifully, actually. This double disc Skullflower outing offers just that, strange keys melted into the sky, contorting divinity into some alternate realm of existence, some abstract blackness that, though dark and menacing, finds beauty that only a deity can. Of course, this isn't a wholly new idea from the likes of Matthew Bower, the long time noisesmith. Even so, Strange Keys is all-consuming and absolutely enthralling. Bower, through his various [...]

how many arms he got? thrashing flailing octopus a blur of banging strings plucked by hirsute hopping-on-one-leg fella together make magic everytime i see chris corsano he fills me with this almost sexual, unbearable urge to hit as many things as possible as many times as i can with whatever's to hand. he is a bursting rhythmic beast. a multi-limbed gigapercussionist. I hope this week is better than last week. For fuck's sake, could something possibly go right, for a change? Anything? Anyone? Bah. No one's listening. What's more, I thought today was the 21st, and had a mix tape prepared to mark the occasion, but later found out that's not until next week. Good God, man. I need some fucking relaxation. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing [...]
Every spring, for many years now, a strange and eclectic horde has made its annual pilgrimage from wherever around the globe its happenstance members may reside, to a somewhat painful little patch of Brooklyn, NY, called Williamsburg. They descend upon this spot to partake in a festival immersed in audio, but strangely enough, not quite [...]
noise, drone, free rock, doom, psyche, metal, ambient, stoner, electronics, kraut, sludge, industrial, europop. mathew bower's done them all with skullflower. okay not europop. but he has released vigintillions of records. which is, like, a lot. i have him to thank (among a few others) for the permanent damage to my abused ears. he's been one of [...]
Just thinking about this Second Layer-promoted show filled me with a sense of deep foreboding. Not because the music was going to be terrifying (which it was, but more on that later), but because I knew I'd be spending three hours on an uncomfortable church pew, trying not to think about needing the toilet [...]
on the seventh day god (small g) did not rest. instead (s)he got up, had a mug of strongblack and a delicious bowl of cocopops (maybe with maltesers added), cleared up the mucky debris of the previous six days creationist madness, then thought to him(her)self whilst sitting on the john, casually flicking through some foosty [...]

Typically, I'm not very interested in or even impressed by the majority of the acts that perform at the New York's annual No Fun Fest, now a three-day event showcasing multiple noisemakers from around the world. On the occasions that I've actually attended, it has only been for a single night and typically to [...]

Skullflower is a long-running band that include Matthew Bower - an extremely prolific musician from UK, who was also a member of such bands as Pure, Total and Hototogisu. Skullflower itself started out where some of his other projects ended in the late 80s. Musically, almost all of Bower's project share his regard for all kinds [...]

"Everyone has AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS!" Louise had a lovely birthday dinner (she made traditional Danish foods, and also there was a bowl of macaroni and cheese with hot dogs!), we played a rousing game of Apples to Apples, and now Tom, Thesy and I are watching Team America: World Police , which pathetic Thesy has never seen before. The pathetic girl. Hey, here's a mix tape! Please enjoy! RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB [...]
