Myspace // "Somersault Notes" [mp3] Sure to be one of 2008's breakout bands, Leeds' Sky Larkin have just dropped their new video, which was expertly put together by Matthew Maude. Look for an album from them later this year.
The covers things pretty well... I hope that Marissa can make music like this some day. I expect her lyrics will be quite different. Komon is a Swedish, one-woman project that mixes laptop production and sugar-pop sensibilities. Check out newly posted songs at her myspace . Komon - If My Heart Was A House Domino! Finally. I love this song and I've never been able to get a copy to listen to whenever. I don't know who's dragging their ass on the LP, but I'm [...]
Sky Larkin from Leeds, UK have been slowly emerging into the spotlight for their playful attraction and delightful but unrefined temperament. Having recently played a list of live shows alongside You Say Party! We Say Die! and Los Campesinos! , they're picking up the pace and making their way...to your ears, that is. You could throw in the mixture of comparative influences like Sleater-Kinney and Rilo Kiley along with a bunch colourful balloons, kite flying, tree climbing, cat scratching youths on a dreary British sky and you pretty much sum up what is of [...]

My good god what a paedo-gig this was! Fucking hell. I felt positively creepy sneaking in, with my grey hair and my burgeoning squishyness around the middle. They very kindly gave the dinosaurs a bracelet signifying that we were really quite old and thus should be allowed into the bar area. Christ I needed one, but quite why they thought it was a good idea to let an inveterate old pervert like myself drink in the presence of so many teenage girls, all hell bent on proving their maturity, is anyone's guess. It would have been far safer to let [...]
Co-inciding with the year anniversary of this sites conception a year ago, I'm introducing a new feature to counteract the ephemera (something that disappears quickly) of writing about new bands. Basically, I write about a lot of new music, but rarely get the chance to talk about what these artists go on to do, release, who they get to dance to their funky music. A similar thing will probably happen again every few weeks so that all the bands and artists I write about won't get so lost in the tubes the internet. *********** [...]

So there's a few songs that are well-worth sharing for your listening pleasure, which I probably should have got around to earlier. First let's start once again with Los Campesinos! I can't get enough of them. I've come to the conclusion that it's not just the melodies that I've in love with, nor is it the relentlessly catchy instrumentation - the whistles! the reckless guitar! the xylophone bashing! the violin! No, what brings me back to the music perhaps more than anything are the observational lyrics - they're so effortlessly clever! witty! funny! silly! surreal! joyous! [...]

So, two of the most tipped new bands of the year so far, on tour together. At least judging by the end of year poll on Nothing But Green Lights , which had its top two as Los Campesinos! (2) and Sky Larkin (1). Both of them wound up their recent short UK tour at a long sold out gig at The Spitz on Monday night. By virtue of being the higher profile of the two bands – now with a record deal on Witchita – The Cardiff outfit [...]

Sky Larkin have posted a high quality mp3 of a track from their Marc Riley session from January 2007. It's called Molten and I will not make any puns such as "like lava, it's hot". The band, who recently released their debut 7" single One Of Two , have also been remixed by two of their fellow My Spacers. Traits and Traitors becomes Owl & Traitors and is mixed by Mechanical Owl whilst One of Two gets a seeing too courtesy of Jonbassduels . The band will also [...]
Long Blondes, "I'm Coping" - At some point last summer, probably somewhere around the time Someone To Drive You Home suddenly began to present itself as a looming reality rather than a long-promised pipe dream (DELIA AND GAVIN, I'M LOOKING AT YOU), I suddenly realized that, unlike %99.99999bar of the music I listen to, the Long Blondes were actually triggering feelings of identification in me. I'm a big believer in the idea of not identifying with music just for the sake of the accompanying endorphin rush which goes hand-in-hand with hearing yourself in someone else's [...]
#19 Emmy The Great 'Paper Trails' Download MP3 Website Myspace I've really tried to get into the music of Emmy the Great, but I can't seem to do it. Maybe I've been hearing the wrong songs or something, but all of the tracks that I've picked up from various blogs haven't done very much for me. All except this one anyway. It's quite a feat for an artist I don't particularly like to get to [...]
I know I didn't do a 'Way Back Whensday' feature yesterday. I haven't abandoned it after only two weeks, I just don't have the time to do both it and one of these countdown posts on the same day. Rest assured it'll be returning next week when we're be back to having very little else to write about. #29 The Young Republic 'Modern Plays' Download MP3 Website Myspace One of [...]

My long thought out list. The best music I have heard all year, and enjoyed consistantly. I've tried to make as many as possible downloadable, or at the least listenable. Where not available, have a look at The Hype Machine for mp3s. 1. Jamie Radford - You're so warm [ mp3 ] A perfect instrumental. The one song that hasn't gone way past it's best before date, it still sounds fresh, and it's just as unnerving. [...]

Last year, we had the Hottest 47 British acts of 2005 which was voted by for prominent British music bloggers. Girls Aloud won. This year, it's the top 47 artists again, with a similar panel deliberating over the results... The awards were voted for by Myself, Sean from Said the Gramophone , James from Headphone Sex , Tom from Indie-Mp3 , Simon from No Rock and Roll Fun , Tim, of the Contrast Podcast , Chris of the Swish Blog , and Eddie of Another Form of relief . So marks the end of my beloved 4-day weekend...which really didn't consist of much besides sitting around whilst being sick. Not to mention trying to read Macbeth which so far I wouldn't consider to be one of my favorite Shakespeare plays. I don't tend to favor the tragedies. Sky Larkin Not to get this band confused with Ireland's bluegrassy punk band, Larrikin [...]

Two of my favourite unsigned bands and Take Your Medicine / Nothing But Green Lights regulars Sky Larkin and Los Campesinos have scored quite a coup; some how managing to support slots on the last Broken Social Scene UK tour for some time. Sky Larkin play dark, smart and enchanting rock music whilst Los Campesinos are indie-pop/rock starlets and are one of the latest British acts getting a lot of attention through the mp3 blogs. Los Campesinos play support on August 29th in Cardiff @ The Point [...]

I can't remember the last time a band grew on me in the way that Sky Larkin have. When I first heard their songs a couple of months ago, I didn't really find them all that great. Since then, the new songs they have put out onto their Myspace page have blown me away and the older songs now find them getting regularly play on my iPod. It's hard for me to pin down exactly what I didn't like about them now as they are really good. Continuing their run of fantastic demo recordings, we [...]
