Things have been fairly quiet from the Skybox camp in the past year, but now we have new music and a fun new video from the Chicago band with Kansas City ties. In "Light," the black and white Skybox group explores Chicago with bursts of colors added in by crayons. It reminds us a bit of the hand-coloring technique that Melies used in his silent films. Pretty cool. Check out the new video from Skybox below:
What do you get when you combine a danceable beat, synthesizers and a fantastic semi-falsetto, tied together with a bow of sincerity? Skybox . I stumbled upon them last year when they opened for the indie trio Jukebox the Ghost at a Lollapalooza after party. I instantly knew I loved them when the lead singer kicked off their segment with “let’s get this crowd jumping!” - a shout out to my favorite, and only, dance move at concerts. When I bought their album Morning After Cuts post-concert, I discovered a sweet, delicate sound embroiled with just enough [...]
This is Conceptualism, the second mixtape and featured tracks from Acuvi. All the songs are taken from artists who previously have been featured on the site, plus some new and exciting acts to watch in the time to come! It can be streamed (in podcast form) from this RSS and iTunes, and separately here! For a [...]

Here's a video that really caught my attention this week from Arizona's Indie-Pop band Skybox. This video really reflects the band's quirkiness, and even though it doesn't look like it was professionally produced, it clearly draws potential listeners to their music. Aside from the video, the tune itself is pretty damn good. I'm not the world's biggest Indie-Pop fan, but their 2010 album Morning After Cuts has completely made me reconsider the genre . First of all I have to give it to them for their exceptional song ordering in the album, this is something [...]
We come to the last of The Wounded Jukebox's Best Songs of 2010 lists. I made an effort to avoid repeating artists on my list in order to include more of the songs that I loved this year. The resulting list is a pretty good representation of the tunes I discovered in 2010. I prefer [...]

Editor's Note: There's really no excuse for what you're about to read and the tracks you're about to endure. But if you can't laugh at the fact that the Jonas Brothers are currently all up on Radio Free Chicago, alongside Timber Timbre and Cursive, then... Well... Personally, I laugh to keep from crying. This is what happens when I say "Of course you can make a mix for RFC, Heidi!" Brace yourselves. Okay, so being the roommate of the infamous Amber Valentine, there is never a dull moment, be it deciding to run out [...]

Skybox knows how to show up at just the right time. As I was lamenting about all the mediocre live shows I've seen lately, all of a sudden they show up and rock the pants off Chicago for an evening. True showmen, these boys have the gift of being talented musicians and performers. I'll let the photos do most of the talking, but suffice to say you'd be doing yourself a favor to catch the next Skybox show...and the next one....and the next one... [...]

It has been unbearably hot this week, my "unbearably hot" is anything over 80 degrees. How can I complain about that you may ask? Well, we have been spoiled rotten, the weather in Southern California has been beautifully mild for the summer and I dig that. I do not dig the heat however, and I turn into the Wicked Witch of the West bitch mode all the way. Last night was the worse of it, so hot that I couldn't even sleep with a fan blowing directly on me. The cherry was the mosquito sucking my blood in 3 different [...]

Lollapalooza took over the massive lakeside green of Grant Park last weekend for its sixth year as a stationary festival in Chicago. I was unable to get myself to The Prairie State, and sent two talented writer-photographers to cover it for Fuel/Friends: Dainon and Kathleen . I ached with jealousy at their text and cell-phone pic updates all weekend long since it sounded like an incredible lineup. Let them tell you about what rocked at this year's Lollapalooza. Dainon: The [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Flickr In homage to Lady Gaga 's first Lollapalooza set three years ago -- on the same stage during the same time slot -- Skybox frontman Tim Ellis donned a shiney disco bra for the band's closer 'In a Dream' on the BMI stage. The disco bra, though not the same one Ellis was wearing, was a staple of Gaga's Friday headlining set [...]

Lollapalooza is back and bigger than ever with an eclectic set of headliners that ranges from the post-Madonna, dancehall pop of Lady Gaga to reunited Seattle grungers Soundgarden to the unbridled anthems of indie rock saviors Arcade Fire . But of course, you probably are familiar with those groups. So, we decided on keying you in on some of our favorites who play the other eight hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Get ready, Chicago. Here's your Loud Loop Press Lollapalooza 2010 preview... [...]

Concrete Blonde Happy Blackhawks day, Chicago! We did it! After 49 long years, Lord Stanley's Cup returns to the windy city! If you're not already hammered at downtown celebration, there's plenty of great music this weekend to keep the party going including Concrete Blonde at the Vic , YAWN at the Hideout , The Futureheads at Lincoln Hall , Metronome Celebration , Earth Program and at Bottom Lounge and so much more. Let's get to it, shall [...]

First up, Chicago band Skybox: We got an e-mail about The Hood Internet [...]

Hi everyone. We've been shuffling some things around on the site. You might notice some of the older posts have dead image links, which we're currently working on. We also disabled the comment feature, as the majority of comments were spam in foreign languages (apologies to those of you looking for great deals on Air Jordans and Rolex replicas). HOOD MOBILE: The fine people at tumblr. worked with us to set up The Hood Internet on tumblr. If you're a tumblr user, start following us! The tumblr version of [...]
Skybox are the result of a simple, yet brilliant recipe consisting of a mixture where old music meet new, quirky lyrics meet intelligent. And “kids create music like grownups” and "grownups create music like kids". It works beautifully – get to know Skybox! Who are you? And how and when did Skybox form? I'm Tim [...]

The Hood Internet are back with their latest remix for Chitown indie-pop group Skybox . Skybox (pictured above) just released their Sophomore album, Morning After Cuts, and will be performing at Lolla this year. The Hood Internet put their electro touch to "In a Dream" and created a remix that lives up to name. Great record. enjoY! Sky Box - In A Dream (The Hood Internet Remix)

I've said it before and I say it again, JDP's upcoming mixtape "Purple" will be sooo good! Just listen to this new track called 'Lights Out (Girls to the Floor)'. "Purple" will be released in a couple of weeks, in the middle of May and every track will be different from the rest. If you follow JDP on Twitter you seen tweets between him and Adam Tensta, sooo stoked to hear what they have cooked up again. The Hood Internet have already given 'Lights Out (girls to the Floor)' their royal remix treatment, peep it below along [...]

Our pals at The Hood Internet threw this jam out yesterday, fittingly enough, on April 20. But while we 're still reveling in the awesomeness that is this mash, we'd like to take a minute to let you know that the naming of this post (albeit the tune's title ) is a bit misleading. Sure, you'll find this cut below, but we're gonna hop around a bit, while still staying somewhat on topic. Whew. Matching rap and [...]
