Holy hell! We couldn't be happier with how we are ending the day. That's right, you read the title correctly. Coming April 29 via the band's new label, Indication, NYC's intrepid saints of ska (not even the 3rd wave bullshit either), The Slackers , come back with Self-Medication . Here are two tracks to get your feets a-bopping and your body skanking. Sort of. (mp3) Don't You Want A Man (mp3) Self-Medication [...]

Do you like the old school ska/reggae sound? Then you probably already know about The Slackers, who have been blessing the ska scene with it's smooth style since 1991. What you may not know is that they are set to release their 11 th album entitled "Self-Medication" on April 29 th , 2008. Self Medication takes on a bit more reggae influences than their previous work thus making the songs a little slower in pace, but they do this successfully without taking an ounce away from the energy (speaking of [...]

Uh... Headed out to participate in some of the usual the hoopla surrounding our country's annual July 4th birthday bash... In honor of this empirical achievement I thought I'd post some tunes that are uniquely, uh, uh, I guess... Uh-Merican. here's a crowd pleaser you may be familiar with... I hear it went down well with a few hundred thousand folks gathered at Max Yasgur's farm outside Saugerties New York one August morning in 1969 anyway... Not sure it's what Francis Scott Key had in mind originally...but it'll do. [...]

I moved to Brooklyn a couple weeks ago so it's about time I showed some blog love for a Brooklyn band. And since I have yet to find a job what better band than the Slackers? I think one of the most interesting Slackers albums is 2003's Close My Eyes. More than typical party-ska Close My Eyes was written about the bands reaction to 9/11 and the events that followed. MP3: The Slackers- Real War MP3: The Slackers- Axes [...]
i work every day. so really the title of the post "Working On Sunday" means nothing to me. i'm writing this post over a period of a few hours and i'm going to use Merlin Mann's " (10+2)*5 Procrastination Dash " MP3 : Everyday Is Halloween - TRS80 - buy - cover of the early Ministry hit - No one seems to remember it but me. Maybe it was just a hit in my own mind. From the Tribute album: "Wish You Were Queer." [...]
Like I mentioned in my last post...it's been a bit chillier than usual out here on the left coast... So wehen I was walking by Recycled Records up on Haight St and spotted the "Rhythms Del Mundo" disc in the window as I waited for a bus, I knew it might hold some Havana-esque heat & hope... Turns out it features members of The Buena Vista Social Club and other Latin musical specialists getting down on modern rawk hits with members of bands like Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys & U2... [...]
I tried to find just a couple minutes to squeeze in some info for this post... But my work day was long, not particularly arduous, but one in which time for lil' moment for personal reflection was severely limited. With the politics & murderous chaos around the world reaching a horrendous boiling point, i can't even begin there, and it's all enough to make ya more than sick . So I will not even begin to speculate on any of it... Been rambling, rolling and not getting much sleep this week... so [...]
