I love you a lot - Slant 6 I believe Slant 6 to be the coolest looking band ever. I know i could probably cut the hyperbole and think real hard for a cooler looking band (Young Marble Giants, Funkadelic, Man... or Astro-Man?... here they come), but any picture of Slant 6 i see it is like someone looked at everything i could want in a band and crafted this one for me, made the music perfectly match what the image promised, [...]

As I've mentioned before, the first punk show I ever attended was Tiger Trap, Cupid Car Club, and Slant 6 in Sacramento, CA. It was the summer of 1993 (July, I think) and I was 17 years old. Prior to that show I had been into labels like Sub Pop and Rough Trade but I had never been to a club show. I didn't know I was entering a new world and a new way of life just by going to a club show. It was especially jarring since up to that point nearly every show I had attended was [...]
"Apparently all the talent in The Pink Floyd was in the word 'the.' Who could have ever predicted that?" -- Tom on the creative juice concentrated in the band's crucial article "Well, you know, he puts you in a trance and basically he makes you do stuff -- stuff you'd never do of your own coalition." -- Bryce Prefontaine, explaining the act of an erotic hypnotist "Of course the ones the kids get, they'll be really small. Yeah, don't worry, the little dudes will be able to bake, too, [...]

BECAUSE we must take over the means of production in order to create our own moanings. BECAUSE viewing our work as being connected to our girlfriends-politics-real lives is essential if we are gonna figure out how we are doing impacts, reflects, perpetuates, or DISRUPTS the status quo. BECAUSE I believe with my wholeheartmindbody that girls constitute a revolutionary soul force that can, and will change the world for real. - The Riot Grrrl Manifesto , Kathleen Hanna " But like a Stubborn Beast when the Barn is [...]
Half-Cocked was the indie rock answer to the Singles Soundtrack back in 1994. The film essentially chronicles a group of bored kids in Louisville (played by various members of Rodan), who steal a van that belongs to their older brother's band (played by the one and only Ian Svenonius), and their vigilante tour for their maverick made-up band. The movie is being released for the first time on DVD, and will be screened in NYC on Feb 13, at the Anthology Film Archives. The soundtrack was available on Matador Records, but is currently out of print. Half-Cocked - Trailer [...]
"Oh, old records. They really are better. The old stuff really is better than the stuff these days." -- Tom, craving more of Collins and Harlan’s take on Irving Berlin’s "Tra-La, La, La!" "I ‘unno." -- Pudge, responding to anything "Jane Krakowski is sass and brass." -- Billy, thrilled by the recasting on 30 Rock "I have an inkling." -- Freddy, using his detective skills to guess the location and purpose of his trip to WFMU "What happens down in South Jersey, [...]
