Well, here we are- the start of Lollapalooza preview week. For the next three days, I will be giving you full coverage of everything to see/hear at Lollapalooza this upcoming weekend. Today we cover Day 1, and it's gonna be kinda insane. Not that the second and third days will be any less out of control. Here's the way I have things organized: -Artists are split up by the time period they're playing. -If an artist is marked with a double asterisk (**), it means the artist is great and you should make an effort to see their set. -If [...]
Agnew and Co. have just put one hundred more tickets on sale for Sleater-Kinney's farewell show at the StaR5 Ballroom next Monday, July 31st. But hey, don't take my word for it...
We're at the last month of the summer here folks, as August is right around the bend. There's a bunch of really top notch concerts coming up in August so here's what I'm planning on seeing. As always feel free to send me free tickets, especially to the sold out shows. I'm going to list them a little bit differently this month, instead of chronologically I'm sorting it by price so you can plan according to your budget like I am. Hope to see you guys at some of these shows. Free Shows: August 2nd - Jens [...]

OK, so I'm sure you have all heard of the game, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon . The idea is pretty simple, choose any actor and connect them to Kevin Bacon with the least number of links. Today's post roughly follows the same concept. I had iTunes choose a song at random for me, and using various methods, I connected it to 5 other songs. See if you can follow the trail that connects Sleater-Kinney and Feist as if they were kissin' cousins: Sleater-Kinney - Everything : [...]
Under the cut: the Long Blondes, more Sleater-Kinney, Frou Frou (and it's not Let Go), the Barenaked Ladies and Bonnie Somerville. Some are about driving, and some are just for singing alone. It's eclectic, but that's what road trips are about. The Long Blondes - Separated By Motorways separated by motorways the a-14 and the a-1 separated by motorways two lonely girls go on the run A fun, lighthearted song about just [...]

Play it: Sleater-Kinney Farewell Play it: Sleater-Kinney Parts ( Heavens to Betsy , Excuse 17 , Quasi ) Man... I leave the country for just 17 days and Sleater-Kinney breaks up? Two weeks ago it was announced that S-K were going on indefinite hiatus. I suppose indefinite hiatus is a more realistic way to say you're breaking up with the option to reuinite , like [...]
I've been putting off some thoughts concerning the dismantling of one of the better bands around these days, Sleater-Kinney. Fortunate enough, I was able to see the band perform last summer and it was an amazingly positive experience. Last years's album, The Woods, came and went with such power and emotion that it's [...]
Hello all, We hope you had a great 4 day weekend, and are ready for some sweet new/semi-new summer tracks, because we've got them for you. Just a quick post tonight. So I thought I'd cast my discerning eye around the interweb and let you know about some interesting things that have caught my attention of late. First up, Contrast Podcast 14 has gone live and if you pop on over here you'll be able to hear 16 of the world's best mp3bloggers plus me, introducing their favourite songs with French lyrics. But before you go there, can I just offer my apologies for the bad French accent and use of the most basic French that I could [...]
Would somebody please give CBS 3 medical reporter Stephanie Stahl a pair of tickets to the next Making Time? See, baby girl has just discovered a little bevarage called Sparks. What's more, she's convinced they're a threat to our collective safety, and has made them the focus of her most recent "Health Alert" segment. It's a distinction reserved for only the most severe and insidious of health risks, placing caffeinated alcohol in the same gruesome cadre of cold-blooded killers as improperly washed fruit or any sunblock with an SPF less than 300...

Last week Sleater-Kinney announced they would be going on an indefinite hiatus (what most other bands refer to as "breaking up") following a handful of final tour dates this summer. It will be sad to see them go, although I seem to be one of the few people who wasn't all that stoked about the balls-out rawk n roll style they adopted on their last album. Not that I didn't appreciate the irony of three women laying down some loud and macho riffs... it just didn't seem like they were being themselves. But I digress. Here are a couple cool [...]
After eleven years together, Sleater-Kinney is throwing in the towel calling their departure an "indefinite hiatus." A statement by Sleater-Kinney reads: We feel lucky to have had the support of many wonderful people over the years. We want to thank everyone who has worked with us, written kind words about us, performed with us, and inspired us. [...]
“Some more than others.†-- Spike on the extent to which humans are human "It scared me." -- Tom on his favorite horror film, Monsters, Inc. "You’re a gross person and I kinda want nothing to do with with you." -- Tom on lighthearted family prankster Chad Shackleford "Yo, John Scharpling, man, what is a podcast, man?" -- Fred, not a subscriber, but still a filthy junkie "Oh, Hasselhoff, don't do it." -- Tom, trying to avoid a clean sweep on America's Got Talent [...]

With the disappointment that was Naperville's Ribfest , I really need to hear some live music outdoors. Evidently the fire marshall stopped allowing people into Ribfest shortly after 5PM yesterday evening. We arrived at about 7PM to see REO Speedwagon (they went on at 8PM) but were turned away along with a few thousand other people. What a joke. In the wake of last night's Ribfest fiasco, I can't wait for Lollapalooza . Here is another batch of tunes for all of you to sample from [...]

While I was away, indie rock's most prolific girl group went and called it quits on me. Sleater-Kinney, Oregon's least wood-related export, posted a note on the Sub Pop website last Tuesday, indicating that they were going on an "indefinite hiatus" -- and we're not talking about the five-years-from-now-Maynard-Ja mes-Keenan-kind, this is the real deal. Just yesterday the world learned that their last show will be at the Roseland Ballroom in Portland on August 11th, after earlier reports indicated that their August 4th stop at Lollapalooza would be the band's final outing. I was hoping for a final [...]
