Originating as a trio based in Madison, Wis., Sleeping in the Aviary has evolved into a Minneapolis, Minn., quintet. All the members have roots in southeastern Wisconsin, and have been playing music for a decade and more in a near-countless number of bands and one-off projects. For You and Me, Ghost the band's sound takes on the influence of an earlier era but still sounds undeniably like Sleeping in the Aviary. Jonah Bromwich may or may not have green hair and a jacket stabbed with safety pins. Punk is about attitude. More specifically, it's about an attitude that makes conservatives (political or otherwise) uncomfortable. Wisconsin band Sleeping in the Aviary have always understood that attitude thoroughly and on their new album, You and Me, Ghost they put it into practice in their most innovative fashion yet: combining their signature off-putting creepiness with hooky songs, most of which are about romance. Sleeping in the [...]
It's a well-known fact that most band names are essentially gobbledygook, but here at Rocks Off we're trying hard to find meaning in the oddest monikers. When we first began our quest to beat so... Continue reading "Sleeping In The Aviary: Fragrant Essential Oils & Music" >

Sleeping in the Aviary – You and Me, Ghost. Download "Talking Out of Turn" (mp3). Sleeping in the Aviary is an ever-evolving band. Going to trio to quintet, the band has shifted its sound with each album – from pop-punk to indie-folk to soulful pop. The band's fourth album, You and Me, Ghost, layers its vocals with oohs and ahhs from '50s pop but accompanies the songs with an aggressively modern approach and the steadfast energy that has become the only signature of their diverse catalog.
