Words by Jacob I have failed you, readers. I, your soundtracking guide through the seasons, dropped the ball on summer '12. Sure, I submitted an Independence Day column, both to help you host the world's most uncomfortable cookout and to support the eternal re-election of President Bill Pullman, but I skipped an actual summer edition, and for this I apologize. But now summer is at an end, and back to work we must go. Unless you have a real job, in which case [...]

New release from Toronto-based multi-talent iSH this past weekend, and it goes the f*ck off. "Demons" is the initial release from the dude's THR3MIX series, set to include remixed tracks that hopefully all come out at least as nice as this. This bit goes over Diplo's rendition of the Sleigh Bells original , and if that's not enough, features a characteristically killer verse from Baltimore's own e-dubble ...more to come! They've hinted at it on Twitter (and I've subsequently pestered them on Twitter about it), but the long awaited (at least on my part) collaboration between iSH and e-dubble is here. I know you guys know e-dubble as an artist that frequents our site but for those who may not know ish as well, he is a Canadian rapper whose songs including his remix of Robyn's Cobsrastyle and more recently Rollin' (used in commercials for the 2012 Olympics) have garnered him much attention and admiration. In this track, iSH combines his [...]
After years of fitful brilliance, all the elements came together as the FYF Fest came into its own as a major destination festival.
Refused has more rabid fans; Sleigh Bells has more likes on Facebook. The unlikely tourmates each ignited Oakland’s Fox Theater in their own special way.

Photos by Mark Pantoja Usually I'm not big on hitting up the reunion tours of my favorite bands from years past. I figure if you missed it, well, you missed it, and you're not going to relive the glory by witnessing the victory lap. But when I heard that Refused aren't dead any more, I didn't question for one second that I had to go see their show at the Fox Theater. And they delivered, confirming that they've still got the chops and are as fierce as ever. [...]
Ever since I was old enough to complain, my dad took great pleasure in the act of dragging my always-resistant ass to music festivals. A summer full of glorious music for him meant a summer full of unstifled groans from me. His taste in music back then - folk, folk, and nothing but folk - meant we hit folk festivals exclusively, and he wasn't shy about tackling the big, multi-day camp-out fests that separate the men from the meek. I have fond, fuzzy memories of trying to enjoy the Philadelphia Folk Festival and basically roasting alive under an angry sun [...]
Remember when we saw that trailer for the Sleigh Bells episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations ? The ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/news/ watch-anthony-bourdains-no-res ervations-sxsw-episo/68643/

Anthony Bourdain has featured his fair share of musicians on No Reservations , including The Black Keys and Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme . But last night's premiere of the show's final season especially proved why we'd really love to see a festival promoter hand over the keys to Bourdain . Chronicling his trip to this year's South by Southwest, the episode saw Bourdain get tatted up with Sleigh Bells, sample The Sword's brand of hot sauce , and drink bloody marys with Neon Indian. Watch clips from the episode below [...]

photos by Debi Del Grande Refused / Warpaint / Sleigh Bells, FYF Fest 9/1/2012 ...Next came the great Warpaint / Hot Snakes / Chromatics dilemma of 2012. We love Hot Snakes, but with not-to-be missed hardcore Refused closing the evening, we needed something cerebral. We picked Warpaint, and it made all the difference. The Angeleno quartet packed the main stage area to an earnestly mind-blowing set. No joke. Stella [...]

By Malvina Rincón FYF Fest took place over Labor Day weekend in Los Angeles. It was two days of eclectic music in the sun in one of the most musically gifted cities in the country. Despite ironic clothing choices (i.e. Hawaiian shirts) paired with equally ironic dance moves (i.e. The Running Man) from some hipsters, the audience was diverse and as warm as the weather. The DYI spirit of the festival, which has been running since 2004, did not go ...

Happy September: ► If there's one song I want to hear at FYF Fest , it's F*cked Up's "Queen of Hearts." The Canadian rockers are No. 1 on my festival hit list, followed by, in order of urgency, M83, Redd Kross, Two Gallants, Cloud Nothings, Quicksand, the Vaselines, the Soft Pack, FIDLAR, Nite Jewel and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Refused, James Blake, Warpaint, the Orwells, Future Islands, Tycho and A.A. Bondy are playing too — single-day tickets are available ($60) at L.A. State Historic Park. Let's have a weekend, shall we? (Remember [...]

With FYF going on down in LA this weekend, we're getting a decent spillover of excellent shows up here in the Bay Area. Though not quite at Fauxchella levels, it's nice to have a Faux Your Festival going on right now. And since your regular host for this column, Dakin Hardwick, will be enjoying himself at [...]

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” -Willy Wonka Bill Fay feat. Jeff Tweedy – “This World” It's been 40 years since Bill Fay's last album. You'd think after all that time he'd have a little bigger budget for this music video. Nevertheless, some Super 8 footage and a projection screen gets the job done just fine. Converge – “Aimless Arrow” Massachusetts hardcore outfit Converge may have uncovered a whole new genre of horror in their latest music video. [...]
