For their Maida Vale session, Sleigh Bells covered 'Irreplaceable' by Beyoncé , which in theory should be amazing, but unfortunately in practice it isn't. For hardcore Sleigh Bells fans, this stripped down acoustic track will probably fit beautifully in your iTunes playlist of bootlegs and live recordings, but for anyone else their approach to the track is too similar to the original (obviously excluding the production/instrumentation ) in terms of ballpark musicality. If Sleigh Bells were to have asked us what song from Beyonce's platinum-plated catalog we would like them to cover, our request would have probably fell on them tackling one of Blue Ivy's Mama's many beat-tastic bangers ( "Check On It" , "Single Ladies" , "Diva" , "Video Phone" , "Run The World (Girls)" , "Countdown" , any one of the Rich Harrison or Swizz Beatz-produced jams from 20062s B'Day ), as one of the R&B-Pop diva's most heavyweight knockers being delivered through the duo's sweet + [...]
Sleigh Bells turned out a surprisingly sweet rendition of the classic Beyoncé track. I'm kind of happy they kept the cover simple, although I can't really imagine what a version closer to the typical Sleigh Bells sound would have been like. "Irreplaceable" aired on Zane Lowe's show on BBC 1, their latest album, Reign of Terror is out now . Read Lloyd's review here .
Photo by Lauren Guagno During a recent Maida Vale session for BBC Radio, Sleigh Bells offered their take on Beyonce's break-up opus "Irreplaceable" . The cover is pretty straightforward, eschewing the band's usual noisy, layered production for the sounds of a simple strumming guitar and Allison Krauss' lush pop vocals. Check it below (via The NJ Underground ).
You're probably expecting this Sleigh Bells cover of Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" to be at least a little ironic, right? Halfway through, you think an over-amplified guitar riff is going burst in to shatter the sweetness. Nope. This cover from BBC 12s Radio Show is as straightforward as you can imagine from Sleigh Bells covering Beyoncé, and it actually works. ( The NJ Underground )
I gotta show some love for my hometown homie Diplodocus. I was a little late to discover Diplo; it was at the end of my third year of high school, back in 2008. My roommate at boarding school popped his iPod in the dock, and played a mix called ' I Like Turtles .' The eclectic mix combined hip-hop, jungle, rock, EDM, pop, and Diplo's own weird sounds so masterfully and gracefully, I was left aching to find more. Then came your typical rush of music discovery: Hollertronix, Fabriclive, Decent for Work for Decent Pay, and tons of miscellaneous Wesley [...]

Sleigh Bells Cover Beyoncé
Earlier today, Sleigh Bells stopped by Zane Lowe's BBC show and aired a couple of acoustic tracks they'd recorded for a Maida Vale session. One was an unplugged version of the single "Comeback Kid," and the other was their take on their possible future collaborator Beyoncé's breakup anthem " Irreplaceable ." It's a completely straight-up cover that never bursts into the staticy noise or the ultra-compressed metal riffage we've come to expect from them, and you can hear Allison Krauss's teenpop past in the sweetness of her vocal.
