Though Norah Jones built her reputation with a string of soccer-mom friendly albums, the singer-songwriter doesn't want you to think that she's not hip. In fact, it seems that she wants to hammer that point home by teaming up with "IT" producer Brain Burton, aka Danger Mouse, for her latest studio album Little Broken Hearts , which hits stores on May 1 via her longtime label Blue Note Records. While Jones and Burton originally began working together on the record back in 2009, it wasn't until the duo reconvened last summer, when Jones [...]

For the past two nights Karl Denson's Tiny Universe teamed up with members of Slightly Stoopid to pay tribute to the music of the Beastie Boys at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, Calif. The performances mixed B Boys vocal tracks with the group's instrumentals as well as plenty of KDTU material. For the Beastie Boys covers that included lyrics, Slightly Stoopid members Kyle McDonald, Dela and OG handled most of the vocals. Among the tunes the ensemble tackled were No Sleep Till Brooklyn, [...]

When Karl Denson was thinking of what he could do to make a set of KDTU shows special last fall, his first inclination was to pay tribute to the Beastie Boys. While he eventually settled on covering the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers, along with Anders Osborne, he clearly hasn't forgotten about his original idea as Denson has just announced a pair of Beastie Boys tribute shows at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, Calif. on March 23 and 24. For both tribute shows, KDTU will be joined by members of [...]

Haven't heard from Slightly Stoopid in minutes, but it looks like they have a live CD/DVD from their sessions at the TRI Studios hitting the masses in a matter of time. The video above features a nice mellow song from the sessions featuring reggae legend Don Carlos ! The bonus video below is one of my favorite tracks by Stoopid and features a funky horn solo that is surely not to be missed. Hopefully they are past their ska/punk phase and continue to make some more insatiable reggae vibes. Don't be STOOPID!

Pro golf, beautiful weather, live music and beer? That's what the Waste Management Phoenix Open offers year after year. And sure, there are no real surprises, but hanging out at the golf outing's live venue " The Bird's Nest " is usually a good time, if you can deal with occasional douchebaggery and drunken shenanigans. The music and the women make it worth a trip. Here's the music lineup for this year's fun : ( thanks to Scoop Factory for the content below ) Wednesday, February 1: Slightly Stoopid will kick off [...]

Win Tix - Slightly Stoopid w/ The Aggrolites @ The Fox Theater - Pomona, CA - 01/14/12 From what I have been able to gather, Slightly Stoopid puts on an incredible live show. These guys have played with the likes of 311, Cypress Hill and Pepper - just to name a few. Slightly Stoopid has a cool, smooth sound that just makes you want to jam out. If I had to compare these guys to another band, I would def have to say Sublime. I am also willing to bet that the [...]

Back on Tuesday, Slightly Stoopid offered a Pay-Per-View broadcast live from Bob Weir's TRI Studios that featured special guests Karl Denson, Ian Neville, Don Carlos and Ivan Neville as well as the Furthur/Grateful Dead guitarist himself. Over the course of the webcast, Slightly Stoopid played an acoustic set and electric set. A setbreak Q and A was hosted by Tommy Chong. The band and TRI Studios has made a free stream of the three-hour webcast available on loop from 6PM PDT on Saturday to 6PM PDT on Sunday. Head over to TRIStudios.com to watch.

moe.down XII Sept 2-4, 2011 Gelston Castle Estate, Mohawk, NY While we've obviously been covering the hell out of the Phish Summer Tour, we're also hella excited about this weekend's annual moe.down Festival in Mohawk, NY. Our friend Nick Irving is going to be on-site shooting photos for the site (as best he can; we were too late to get a photo pass for the pit) and we'll hope to have some coverage up after the fact. This lineup is eclectic as hell and the announcement is [...]

Summer is in full swing, and Shwayze & Cisco Adler's new video for "You Could Be My Girl" delivers everything we need to celebrate – bikinis, beaches, cold beer and a mellow island breeze. "It's California to the max – hot chicks and cool brews," says Cisco of the video, ...

Live albums are typically love/hate affairs. Especially in the rock 'n' roll realm, live EPs, LPs and bootlegs are dime-a-dozen and infrequently bring the listener closer to a favorite act's concert aesthetic. However, several live works stand above the rest, giving quality glimpses into the unfiltered, out-of-studio performances that make bands great. The following list isn't an all-time "best" compilation; rather, it includes five great live albums that all music fans should give a spin. 1. My Morning Jacket - [...]
