![[Introducing] – Halo Halo](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3921438_lg.jpg)
Tweet Named after "a multi-coloured pudding" from the Philippines, Halo Halo instantly transported me back to the first time I heard "Typical Girls" by The Slits while stompin' around Indian Trail Junior High School in my fake Payless Doc Martens. However, instead of listening to a band whose output ended before I was over watching The Popples, Halo Halo are just beginning. A trio made up of multi-instrumentalist Rachel on vocals, Jack on percussion, and guitarist/multi-instramentalis t Gill, Halo Halo are [...]

This is The Slits performing on the Pitchfork Stage at the 2010 Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona Spain. The line up was Ari Up (vocals), Tessa Pollitt (bass), drummer Anna Schulte, American singer Michelle Hill, and guitarist Hollie Cook (daughter of Sex Pistol Paul Cook). The quartet was originally formed in 1976 by members of the bands The Flowers of Romance and The Castrators. The group supported fellow punk band The Clash on their 1977 White Riot tour along with the Buzzcocks and the Subway Sect. Club performances of The Slits during [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive Marco Gonzalez The day he met his future father-in-law, Chuck Rowell was in a bit of a bind. He and his band Crocodiles had just arrived in London for their first U.K. tour, and due to a mix-up with their Italian driver, they suddenly found themselves needing a ride. Luckily, Rowell's fiancé's father stepped in and offered to give them a lift -- a [...]
I was just thinking about Crocodiles yesterday. I loved their record Sleep Forever and was hoping they'd have a follow-up soon. My wish was almost granted - Crocodiles member Charles Rowell and The Slits' Hollie Cook have teamed up to form the group Psychic Dancehall. The duo make music that's psychedelic, sludgey and often a [...]
Dare I admit it - when the Label Manager first mentioned the name Hollie Cook in one of our weekly New Release calls, I wasn't immediately convinced that this would be an artist with great potential in France. True, I knew that the label, Mr. Bongo, had a great reputation ...

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Courtesy of Crocodiles Up-and-coming San Diego noise rockers Crocodiles ' first gig in Canada saw a who's who of Toronto scenesters ram the small Silver Dollar bar for a trance-inducing set with a thick coat of 'sticky' due to the mist-rain humidity factor. It was clear from the outset the real gem of the band is Charles Rowell and his wall-of-sound guitar skill, an ode to stoned-out influences [...]

'White Gold' By Poly Styrene. I missed the original Punk explosion, I was aware of it, aware my parents hated it with a passion and that Punks generally looked like futuristic urban warriors and had upset that nice Mr Grundy fellow on TV. But this was mere background noise to my childhood, I had weightier things on my mind such as recovering from the trauma of discovering that the square jawed poster boy of male heterosexuality, Action Man, actually had [...]
In an effort to expand our horizons and turn you on to some really cool new books concerning music, this is The Book Report , an ongoing series from guest contributor Christopher Ambrose. Text by: Christopher Ambrose for The Sky Report The Beautiful & The Damned: Punk Photographs by Anna Summa With everyone and their roommate posturing as a rock photographer with their underwhelming cellphone-camera snapshots of performances, it's inspiring to see the conscious images of someone that knows and cares about what they are doing inside a setting [...]

This list of musicians who we lost this year is by no means definitive, and is entirely dependent on my faulty memory (other than birth and death dates, which came from Wikipedia - I'm not that good). Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive After more than 30 years together, it's no surprise that Killing Joke do some reminiscing on their latest album, 'Absolute Dissent.' The record is the British post-punk band's first in 25 years to feature the original line-up and the final track, 'Ghosts of Ladbroke Grove,' looks back to the late 1970s, when that west London neighborhood was home to such bands as the Clash , the Slits , the [...]

Alex Chilton With every year that passes, another sorry constellation of musical bright lights see their stars burn out forever, their souls going to join John, Freddie, Jimi and the rest in rock-star Valhalla. Whilst any passing life is distressing to contemplate, at least musicians can continue to touch people posthumously through a legacy which will far outlive them, and may even grow in breadth, stature and popularity in their absence. As 2010 draws to a close, we thought it proper to revisit the work of some of this year's departed musicians, to remind old fans [...]
