Pop criticism's historical revisionism is rampant . It's seriously out of control. This is perhaps natural, as subsequent works and/or events seem to deeply affect our estimation of previous achievements. How many of us who loved Pearl Jam's Ten in 1992 would never be caught dead listening to Even Flow today? We would certainly never sing its praises, and we wouldn't hear the fresh, purposeful "grunge" we loved back then, but just a pretensious, faux-arena-rock piece of schlock with out-moded lyrics and-gasp-guitar solos. Not convinced? Try listening to Sarah McLachlan's much-loved-at-the-time [...]

Canadian rock veterans Sloan will be releasing their 8th full length album next month, and although I'm not expecting all that much from it, I still feel obligated to give it a fair chance. There's been a definite drop off in the quality of their music over the last few records, but I was quite surprised to hear that the new album, called Never Hear The End Of It , will contain 30 (!) songs. Insanity. If they had trouble coming up with 12 decent songs in the past, how can they possibly manage 30? [...]
SLOAN "Who Taught You To Live Like That?" Tuesday is haiku review day: The new Sloan single Who taught you to live like that Is pretty damn hot WHO TAUGHT YOU TO LIVE LIKE THAT?

My favorite Canadians, Sloan , are set to release their eighth album on September 19 and earlier in the week Stereogum posted about the first single, "Who Taught You to Live Like That?," being available on the band's MySpace page . Today, Chromewaves reported that the album is 29 songs long (!) with equal contributions from all four members. Never ones to shy away from self-deprecating humor, the album is called Never Hear the End of It . Sloan's [...]

in highschool i went from thinking they were a bunch of overly pretentious idiots to worshipping the ground they walked on in the space of approximately a week. caitlin had made me a mix tape, and it had i can feel it at the tail end of one side. i pretty much wore out that tape, rewinding it over and over again to hear that song, and today it's still one of my all time favourites. i was hooked on sloan, and when the one chord to another album came out, i picked it up the [...]

Sloan has long been considered one of the best bands in the history of Canadian music. To be honest, for the longest time (well, 5 years) I hated the band and most of the band's music. It all changed when One Chord to Another was released. Since that album the band has [...]
