The sloth is a notoriously slow creature. They spend most of their lives in trees, because they can't out run their predators on the ground. This Long Island band calling themselves Slothbear are not that slow, in fact these guys make some pretty fast paced, scuzzed out music. This fits right in with the sound of the moment, either by necessity or because they want to. I'm not quite sure which one it is. Anyway, the band have a six song EP which is available for free below. It was recorded on a broken 4-track with no microphones and it [...]

Slothbear are batesmaroo, doblique, jamoots and palz. They have some new jams up at their myspace . Maybe when "Olio" is in a more final form it will show up in my inbox (hint hint). Question: Did you know they are sworn zoocrats? They believe in, yes... rule by animals. This may have something to do with the fact that they are stuck out on Long Island. Downloadable: "Don't Taunt A Tiger" (box.net mp3) Downloadable EP: "Slothbear EP" (rack and ruin zip) Slothbear's spotblog is [...]

Slothbear EP cover art. The Slothbear is a wonderful animal and so it's only fitting that a band named after such an awesome creature should, too, be awesome. NYC's Slothbear make noisy, caustic pop songs with more catchiness – and treble – than you could shake a stick at. Since yesterday I've been pretty stuck on them and songs like "The Exceptional Bastards" and "You Make Me Choose You" are so instantly infectious and, well, I don't know, they're just really really good. I wouldn't be surprised if Slothbear were picked up [...]

SlothBear Genre: Indie / Glam From: Valley Stream, New York United States According to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park SlothBear's are "disheveled in appearance leading a nocturnal reclusive life in the forests of India". Which, judging by the tracks on their myspace site, could be a perfect summary of SlothBear the band, well apart from the forests of India bit! [...]
i love when people send over shit with nothing other than a few mp3's and a few sentences. such is the case with sloth bear. no individual band member names, no myspace page, no album title, nothing... just, and i am paraphrasing, hey we are sloth bear, we recorded this in our basement on a 4 track, blah blah blah. i appreciate that they didnt send me to myspace or some other bullshit. instead, they sent over 6 tracks of what turned out to be pure fuzzed out pop bliss complete with barely decipherable lyrics. that shit gets me every time, in all [...]

So I get alot of stuff in my mailbox from bands...well, not alot, but some. I've been meaning to write about it all, but never gotten around to it. So with that said, I just got an email from a New York band called Slothbear, and I instantly liked it. Lo-fi noise pop. This gives me alitte Sic Alps feeling; which is a good thing. According to their myspace page, the songs "were recorded on a broken four track with no microphones." Great. Keep using it. I stole this one from their myspace page: [...]
