Next week Valentine's day arrives again and from a musical perspective that means a whole load of cliché ridden compilation albums. Yuck. It's so difficult to find a beautiful love song that sounds sincere without being trapped by overblown finger-down-the-throat sickly over sentimentality. So this blog will be Valentine music free this year, although our love for music runs throughout the year not just for one day. [...]

It's nice to see a video that probably had a 3 sentence pitch and the result is just a joy to watch. The dancers seamlessly wander through a variety of styles in an effortless way that just inspires jealousy in uncoordinated folks like me. The song is equally impressive; a joyously weird stomp bolstered by a bristling chorus that just begs to be put on repeat. 'Two Cousins' is the lead single off Paradise , which was released on 09/16/12 via Moshi Moshi . Buy the album through iTunes .

Slow Club at Europa in 2010 ( more by Jessica Amaya ) UK duo Slow Club released Paradise late last year (available at eMusic ), and played a few US shows in support of it. Now they're returning to North America for a full tour with Air Waves , which hits NYC on February 16 at The Bell House . Tickets are on sale now. Check [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. I meant to post the latest video from Slow Club back in November, but the holidays got in the way. Well now I get to post the video AND let you all know that they will be touring the US and Canada in February and March. 'If We're Still Alive' has just a hint of warm surfer rock that permeates around the tracks' big, bold and percussive drums leaving you in a haze of sunny indie-pop sounds. I am very excited to also announce the [...]

Each of our writers who posted this year worked tirelessly to cover bands that normally don't appear on your FM radio stations, and in the true spirit of the season, here are their lists. All albums are linked to iTunes. To play all Soundcloud clips continuously, click on the play button in the bottom right of the screen. TOP 10 ALBUMS 10. Cut Copy - Zonoscope 9. [...]
10-6 10. Alex Turner - "Stuck on the Puzzle" The frontman of Arctic Monkeys blew us away with his Submarine EP (equally fantastic film) and this track stood out as the most effective cautious tale of love between Oliver and Jordana. 9. Young Dreams - "Young Dreams" The Modular signed Norwegian ensemble took me by complete surprise of their uplifting, infectious, lo-fi tunes. This track, which comes complete with a video featuring two children losing their minds, has one of the most pleasing arrangements of [...]

Wikipedia Good: the holiday season is just lousy with cover versions. Bad: they've all been posted by every blog under the mistletoe ad nauseum. So while in past years I've done mini-omnibus holiday mixes - 2010 and 2008 are still up - this year I'll just focus on one song, Darlene Love's most famous contribution to the classic Phil Spector -assembled A Christmas Gift To You , and four diverse covers of it. Slow Club do the most faithful [...]

In the spirit of the winter season, whether your celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa or any other holiday I may have forgotten about, chances are that over the past month you've heard your fair share of traditional Christmas music. While some people might eat that stuff up as they prepare for the holidays, we here at the TBT find it hard to cope with sometimes in the wake of all good music holiday alternatives that do exist, but seem to go unnoticed in mainstream media. That being said, it is my honor to bring you our [...]

Fridays 'round these parts typically see gobs of remixes. Today didn't seem right posting a "Friday Remixes," partly due to the fact that this entire weekend most people will be celebrating Christmas with family, friends and loved ones. I plan on doing the bulk of my shopping today and my procrastinating has taken me as far out as possible. No matter how hard I try to fight it every year, I fall into the same trap. Saturday will be full of football from morning till nighttime. I'm in the championship game of my fantasy league, so I'll be [...]

Scottish Kate is a great friend of this blog and has often offered her (sometimes pithy) opinions on the world of music - and very good taste she has too. She also runs the always excellent (sometimes pithy), and often provocative blog A Burdz Eye View for all things Scottish (of course), political and musical. Here are her aural selections for 2011. The Burd's Best Songs of 2011 Well it doesn't get any easier. Though given that all my old schticks are in here aplenty [...]
The best duo from England, Slow Club , have made a video for "If We're Still Alive". The video follows the the band on tour in ENgland and U.S., and gives us some insight into the zany lifestyles of the two. A little birdie told me this track might appear in a week or so again on this site. Slow Club - "If We're Still Alive"

2011 was a real chicken-and-egg kind of year in music. Was there really less amazing music or did everything sound a little duller because it was a difficult year for me personally? Was there less sonically interesting music in 2011 or was it because I cut way back on listening to music with headphones? Was there less originality or is it because we're so bombarded with music all the time that it just takes so much more to cut through the sheer volume? While it may have been for personal reasons, it did seem as though 2011 was [...]

It's that time of year! Let it snow, Christmas only comes but once a year... we've heard it all year after year, including the Jackson 5 singing about mommy kissing Santa Claus and Mariah hitting those splitting decibels on her overplayed Christmas album. Presumably, you are reading this because you recognize the value of "other" music - music that may not have hit your local airwaves or MTV yet. Why not include Christmas as well? This Friday, we are taking a moment to give you five songs to save your musical sanity this holiday season. Take [...]
OK, so we've already had the top 20 albums, here we look at the top tracks (that don't feature on the best albums) of the year... It's been a really strong year of releases, with a lot of sifting required, however after much distillation, here we present our top 20... 20: The Strokes - Taken for A Fool [...]
