Oh thank goodness, that's this thing finished for another year. Now I can get back to the important work of hardly ever posting anything on the blog. For the final door of the calendar I've picked out one of my favourite Christmas songs, with a few different people putting their own spin on it. The song is Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). Written by Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry and Phil Spector for the latter's A Christmas Gift To You album, still the best Christmas album made if you ask me, singing duties fell to Darlene [...]

Temporary Residence Not many record producers manage to achieve the sort of household name status as the artists they work with, but Nigel Godrich has done as well as anyone in the recent memory. Partly because of his work on high-profile records from the likes of Beck, Pavement, and Paul McCartney, but mainly because he's the unofficial sixth member of Radiohead , having been behind the boards for every one of their records from OK Computer onwards. He's been getting out of the studio and onto the stage of late, though. [...]

Listening to Art vs Science's loved track Friend in the Field got me thinking about other "friend" songs. After looking at some tunes, I figured why not create a Friend Playlist with some of the catchiest, friendly jams, which I bet you'll become rather close with! "Stumbling round, falling down. Need to sleep, here looks good, 'til I find my way back home. We lost a friend in the field tonight, still I wave a beam of light. We lost a friend in the field tonight, still I wave [...]
Lemar Obika is one of the chosen few that have broken through the wall of talent shows and proven themselves to be formidable force both in terms of personality and ability. Free from the record deal that saw him release five records with Sony, the 34 year old is about to drop a new collection of songs on his own terms. We sent Rebecca Taylor - she of Best Fit favourites Slow Club and the biggest Lemar fan on the planet - to interview the Tottenham-born singer about his origins, career and the [...]

It's Mercury Prize time once more; and with the Frankel of the UK alternative music scene, PJ Harvey's fanciful quicksilver a non-runner this year, a collective (if not purely metaphorical) sigh of relief is emitted by the chasing pack. That's not to say we're in any way implying there's a system of quasi-impartiality or shadowy politics at work; merely that when certain names are touted - more often than not - their inclusion is met with divided opinion. But that's what it's all about, surely? Opinion. So for the second year (and soon to become [...]

![[REMIX] Slow Club – “Beginners (King of Town Remix)”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4440418_lg.jpg)
as your bones grew, why did you become you? ♫ Slow Club - Beginners (King of Town Remix) Slow Club already have mellow and dreamy down pretty pat but this delicate remix adds just a touch of groove to the song, nudging it into a funkier territory that I am quite enjoying. It's the kind of restrained remixing I love in RAC and Hannes Fischer. Only time will tell if newbies King Of Town will reach that status.

Slow Club are happy to announce upcoming US tour dates with Mumford & Sons this August, including a gig at the renowned Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Slow Club made a splash in late June with the viral success of the video for their song “Beginners,” a single from their critically acclaimed sophomore album Paradise . To make the video they employed the acting skills of one of their biggest fans, Daniel Radcliffe. The accomplished actor & Harry Potter star lip-syncs his way through a empty bar as he battles unseen demons from his past. [...]
Sheffield duo Slow Club make sweet, sparkling atmospheric music. They've played alongside Tiny Dancers and have opened for Tilly and The Wall. For their latest video, Slow Club recruited a fan who could really bring some magic to the set. "Beginners", off the album Paradise , stars a down-and-out Daniel Radcliffe drinking away his woes at a pub. The video was shot on location in The Faltering Fullback in Finsbury Park, London in a single take. Watch and be mesmerized.

John Lindquist Patrick Wolf doesn't really look old enough to be celebrating a decade of anything save no longer being a teenager but despite having just turned 29 less than a fortnight ago, the dramatic/romantic English singer-songwriter has been making music and releasing records since his debut EP in Fall 2002; his first full-length Lycanthropy followed in Summer 2003. If he decides that it's occasion enough for a world tour , I'm certainly not going to argue it. Neither his last album - 20112s [...]
