Slowlands. Leider immernoch viel [...]

Fanny Howe : In "The Wedding Dress," she recounts her experiences as a well-born Brahmin turned community activist, a white woman married to a person of color, and a mother of three mixed-race children during the city's violent busing crisis - and recalls feeling that she'd never be the same again. "[The late anti-busing activist] Louise Day Hicks and the vociferous Boston Irish were like the dogs and hoses in the South . . .," she writes. "Some worldview was inexorably shifting in me." Her daughter Danzy [...]

Those of you who know me personally know that I am generally a happy, not pissed-off kinda person. I'm usually cheerful and most of the time when I'm sick or in a less-than-stellar mood it becomes obvious to my friends immediately, and they tell me I'm not my bouncy, gabbing, perky self. It's usually hard to make me mad. That being said, there are two things that will make me completely seethe with rage. Lousy drivers, and bigotry. Unfortunately I had to deal with both yesterday. I won't talk about [...]
So yesterday we were busy with my brother's wedding shower and then went to see the Ricky Bobby movie. It was hilarious. And we are heading out the door right now to support my sister at the Accenture Chicago Triathalon, and attend her post-race barbeque. I'd write more, but... These five six songs have been rockin' my iPod as of late. A little rock, a little pop, and a song I find myself

(Slowlands and Takka Takka) We've been casually listening to Slowlands ' full-length Never Was There A Town since it was sent to us nearly a year ago. From the first listen, we were taken with it, so we're sorry it's taken us this long to talk about them here on the site. Unless we have a personal relationship of some sort with a band, we tend to reserve voicing our thoughts until we've had a chance to see them live. For whatever reasons, we hadn't had a chance to make it out to see the [...]

Brooklyn, NY Slowlands has self-released a disc that covers a large part of the indie rock spectrum. Never Was There A Town pretty much has it all â€" tracks that rock out hard and others possessing a more delicate sound that represent genres like chamber pop. "Lighthouse" Slowlands on MySpace
Not being an expert mix maker, I spent a long time debating a theme for this one. Should I do one special for Ryan’s birthday? Tracks from 2006 I felt people might be missing and needed to hear? Or all tracks from albums I picked up at the Pitchfork Music Festival record fair? Well… I [...]
