The film Slumdog Millionaire is a frenetic portrait of Mumbai, a gritty fairytale of beating the odds and standing firm in the face of adversity, and propelling it forward is the pulsating score by A.R. Rahman . In the wake of the recent tragic event in Mumbai , the film -- and even it's soundtrack -- becomes even more visceral than it's already ebullient depiction of the Indian city. To be honest, I had just started to write something about the soundtrack last [...]

Once again, releases are in holiday mode, so 'new' releases are sparse (hence the combining of weeks). On Monday, I profiled the new albums from Kanye West , The Killers and Tom Jones , and besides that there's releases from the Paul McCartney project The Fireman, Anathallo, Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, Femi Kuti, Ludacris and Momus. ( Chinese Democracy is a Best Buy only, so I'll happily ignore.) Special EP's from Coldplay, The Raveonettes, Feist, Sixx:AM and Surf City litter the landscape as well along with compilations from post-punk faves Magazine [...]

The Donnybrook Writing Academy will be the unofficial wine-and-cheese-nose-in-the-ai r-azure-ichor headquarters for the 31st Starz Denver Film Festival. Film critic and toilet correspondent Fritz Godard reports: Friday I'm not sure if it was the opening night film or that I may have eaten my weight in pork products at the party following the film, but Friday morning I woke up in a stomach corroding vomit-producing state, which required me to sleep for 90% of the next 24 hours. Needless to say, I missed more than a few films I wanted to see, in particular [...]
Just the other day I was wondering why hasn't there been a trailer for Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire . The reason is because there is one now, but also because Fox Searchlight is using their highly mastered rolling platform release for this movie. It's a strategy that has worked in the past for films like Juno and Little Miss Sunshine. Information on free screenings and rollout release dates ahead. It won't be released [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. I'm still shocked that Fox Searchlight hasn't released a true, proper trailer for Danny Boyle's latest flick Slumdog Millionaire. Especially after the buzz it began to generate at the tail end of the festival season. Essentially, the above is the only thing we have for a trailer and the movie comes out on Nov. 12. A bit baffling, but maybe the studio is hoping the general buzz and Danny Boyle's name recognition will help sell the film. [...]
I have to see this movie right now. Honestly. I've been searching for a contrarian opinion about Slumdog Millionaire , but I've yet to find one. And that makes me smiling from ear to ear. It's not that I'm looking for something bad about the flick, per say, it's just that I'm obsessed right now with how potentially awesome this Danny Boyle flick is going to be. The more I search for something negative and come up empty the more excited I get. Don't try to understand my logic. Variety's Anne Thompson sat down with Boyle [...]

Danny Boyle is one of those filmmakrers, who when you look at his impressive CV, wonder how is it that no one mentions him in the discussion for best filmmaker alive. He might not warrant that title, but he at least belongs in the conversation, right? With the exception of The Beach and the final act of Sunshine he's had hardly a misstep to his career, which began with his first feature film in 1995. Even his lesser films Alien Love Triangle and Life Less Ordinary have a certain [...]
