To those who are new, and those who have not tuned in yet, I have a show every Saturday from 9-10:30pm Mountain on UtahFM.org. The show is called Scene Not Heard and it's the shit. At least I think so. Tune in sometime, hit me up during and let me know what you've got going on... happy to promote your band or whatever else you've got going on. A shout-out to @sarahemlynelson who is moving her show "Shit, It's Only Tuesday" to "Fuck Yeah, It's Friday" is most definitely in order. Beginning October 9th UtahFM will be partnering [...]

Small Black - Despicable Dogs Mysig lo-fi-pop från USA och Brooklyn. Låten är från en kommande och självbetitlad EP.

Sometimes you just gotta take the dive to find good music. Put on your swim trucks and latex diving cap and jump right into the mysterious waters. Let the currents of sound mold around your joints. Maybe then you will find that strange creature that what you've been searching for. And it will be a pleasant experience. MP3: Small Black - Pleasant Experience Small Black is from Brooklyn, NY. They have a blog . Debut EP will be out next month [ PRE-ORDER NOW! ] [...]

This weekend has been one of juxtaposing forms of entertainment for me. Half was spent reclining back and catching up on some reading time, while the other was spent turning my brain to jelly on amusement park rides. I'll apologize in advance for any goofy album reviews I happen to post this week. I can't handle a day at Cedar Point like I used to. In any event, it's difficult to write a weekly feature that doesn't carry with it content-specific goals. Usually I simply ramble. Today I'll begin with a brief synopsis of my reading tendencies, and then launch [...]

Today we have some delicious lo-fi indie rock from Brooklyn's Small Black! They excel at combining Casio beats with fuzzed out keyboards and melodrama. Small Black - Bad Lover Small Black official site Small Black on MySpace

The glo-fi genre holds as much promise as it does confusion. Warm synth-lines, echoing and fuzzy vocals - it doesn't seem definite enough to be promising. But Small Black made their way into our summer as the soundtrack to a departure from Los Angeles. As the 2.30am red-eye sailed out over the city, the song's signature lyric "do it without me/do it when I'm gone" took on added relevance, after

I could have been productive this weekend, I could have been social. Instead, I wasted way too much of my time on mp3 blogs, digging through elbo.ws trying to catch up with various of-the-moment bands - bands whose careers may very well only last as long as it takes to press play on a single [...]

After much fiddling, swearing, praying and eventually reading instructions for a router; my internet has been fixed and I can bring you the latest installment of HiFi Fidelity Radio. This month's mix of the best new music holds together quite well as a compilation, if I do say so myself. It's been a quiet summer around here at the luxurious PHW headquarters - with 6 month old twins to take care of there hasn't been a lot of time to get outdoors as much as my wife and I would have liked. There have been a lot of lazy (but still plenty hectic) days around the house filled with dirty diapers, hungry babies, and the occasional stolen nap. While I wouldn't trade the time spent with my daughters for [...]

Here's a look at the artists that appeared for the first time on the Future Sounds radio show on WOXY.com ... THE XX MYSPACE HOMETOWN: London Ok, so The XX is on everyone's playlist these days. We haven't seen such blanket blog hype about someone in some time, and from early listens, it's deserved. Unsigned for another 5 minutes. [...]

I'll be (hopefully noticeably) absent from the show on UtahFM this week and next. Check back on August 29th for the return and the following Saturday, September 5 I'll be doing a solid 3 hour set from 9-12am. For now, here are some of the latest and greatest tracks to come across my plate in recent days/weeks. Monday: Hockey + Sigmund Droid @ Mercury Lounge 8pm $8 My choices for this week were really tough to come by. All summer long we have been pretty much inundated by fantastic live shows and for whatever reason this week is pretty weak and fairly expensive. I hope you've been saving your pennies by going to nothing but free shows! Anyway, I'm on the fence about whether or not I like Hockey and Sigmund Droid has been missing in action for quite a while. Apparently they're back now so I guess check this out if you have [...]
Small Black - "Despicable Dogs" ; Music blogs across the country are debating what to call this whole "new" genre of music and I'm totally staying out of the fray. It's another version of the lo-fi movement just a bit happier and sunnier then shit like Times New Viking. That doesn't merit a new name or much else unless there's something substantial to it. This is not one of those songs. It's light, cute, and summery, but not worthy of a whole new genre of music. At least not one so many people should be paying so much [...]
