Long before Vito did his Aeroplane compilation the go-to guys were Mighty Mouse and their fantastic Disco Circus compilation, now, in its third year the London disco dons Mighty Mouse has announced that the third edition is ready for release. To get you super excited about the new compilation, they're giving away the ridiculous psychedelic 'Smiling Faces'. The compilation's tracklist is under lock and key and is being protected by Stuart Little, a mice not to be messed with. But our spies reckon you can expect tracks from Oliver, Gigamesh and The Magician. File under: [...]

Jimmy Dix: What? Joe Hallenbeck: I'm gonna dance a jig, I swear to Christ. So Joe (and you all out there), here are the right beats to [...]

As 2011 draws to a close, I wanted to throw my own two cents in about what I considered the best albums of the year. 15. The Smile Sessions- The Beach Boys When Brian Wilson announced that The Smile Sessions would be released, I was ecstatic. I still don't own a box set to this day, but I've been [...]

I was introduced to The Smiles earlier this year through their insanely catchy, breezy "Cala Cola." Now under a different name , the band has a new EP that is free on bandcamp. Check out "Pretend" below and head over to their bandcamp page to find both their eps for free. Think beach rock with some Vampire Weekend preppiness, Beach Boys sensibility and a dash of Good Old War . MP3: The Miracles: Pretend Bonus: MP3: The Miracles: Cala Cola
The four remaining Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and Al Jardine, are hitting the road this year to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary. It all kicks off at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in April. No other dates have been announced yet, we just know there are 50. The band went back into the studio recently to re-do the symbolic "Do It Again," a great mid-tempo rocker that doesn't get the recognition of the other hits in the band's incredible collection. The tune will be part of a new album set to be released next year. [...]

You'll pick up some good vibrations when you see Erik den Breejen's latest exhibit, "Smile," at Freight + Volume in New York. Den Breejen has painted the lyrics to the Beach Boys album "Smile." The album was recorded in 1966 following the release of the seminal album "Pet Sounds." Some of the songs eventually saw the light and Brian Wilson even recorded a new version of [...]

Way back in October of last year I wrote about The Smiles , a young American band who met while attending University of Southern California. At the time the band had just released their first EP entitled Hermosa , featuring tracks such as California Girls and Cala Cola , both of which I found incredible catchy and well worth a good listen. Fast-forward over a year and The Smiles have [...]

Bursting out of South California in a cluster of sunshine vocals, Beach Boy harmonies and infectious melodies, The Miracals are currently making waves with their new Give Me A Chance EP. The young four-piece, who were formerly called The Smiles , released the follow-up to last years debut EP earlier this month and we thought it would be a good time to catch up with the band to find out a little bit more about them. Hi, how are you doing today? Anything exciting planned? [...]

For nearly a half-century, the Beach Boys' SMiLE has been one of the greatest myths in pop music history. Brian Wilson's unfinished symphony was a "woulda-coulda-shoulda" prospect all the way. The album that some insist would have dwarfed the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper and forever changed the course of popular music instead drove Brian into a career-destroying nervous breakdown. Thanks to The Smile Sessions , though, the album that never was finally is. This five-CD box set generally follows the framework of Brian's 2004 rerecording of SMiLE material in [...]

The wait is over. After almost forty years, one of the most infamous discarded albums of all time has finally been properly released. The original recording of SMiLE was abandoned sometime in 1967 due to Brian Wilson's increasing drug use, paranoia and depression and, since then, it has become one of the most sought-after unreleased albums ever. And now it's officially out, in deluxe box set form, complete with ridiculous amounts of additional material, bonus tracks, out-takes, demos and... well, you get the idea. The first disc of the five-disc box set is the album itself. [...]
In 1966, in the wake of the critical acclaim from the masterpiece Pet Sounds , and coasting on the fame and fortune he'd earned for single-handedly competing with the entire nation of England for two whole years, Brian Wilson boasted to the press that the next Beach Boys album would be better still, grandiose beyond reckoning, as evolved from Pet Sounds as Pet Sounds had been from its predecessor, the goofy Beach Boys Party! album. Finally on November 1, 2011, we'll be getting the official, Capitol Records, Mike-and-Al-sanctioned confirmation that he [...]

Who would've thought that one of 2011's best albums would come from none other than The Beach Boys? While the album was recorded way back in the '60s, it is only now that the album is being properly released. The album was originally intended to be a follow-up to the now legendary Pet Sounds . It has been widely recognized as the most famous unreleased album of all time. It is part legend, part psychedelic opus magnum, and complete perfection. This album delves into The Beach Boys' penchant for psychedelia and mind-blowing vocal harmonies with songs [...]

Tweet We all know the story by now. The follow up to The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds", "SMiLE" was to be Brian Wilson's masterwork, a guaranteed psych-pop classic that would demonstrate the breadth of sound that could be achieved in a recording studio, throwing down the gauntlet to all other rock and pop artists. That is, until the wheels came off of the Beach Boy's wagon, as much a result of internal [...]
