The Starz Denver Film Festival is around the corner and it seems to get bigger and better with every year that passes. What would a film festival be without a little music and partying? Check out the Exposure Music Lounge for the duration of the film festival for your music needs. The festival this year will be dedicated to Denver Mayor Hickenlooper's late cousin, George Hickenlooper who passed away suddenly this last weekend. He was to have had his latest movie, " Casino Jack ", starring Kevin Spacey [...]

Jimmy Fallon is this year's Emmy Awards host. It got me thinking about how funny TV can be and how I've abandoned most TV watching (except for the shows I watch on HBO religiously, i.e. "Hard Knocks", "Hung" etc...). I'm dying for the new season of TV to start. I miss new episodes of "30 Rock" and "Parks and Rec". The promise of new television programming is unveiled every Fall, and of most shows that are to premiere, the AMC program, " the Walking Dead" , looks extremely promising. From what I can gather from the [...]

The weather gods have looked upon us and have taken mercy. I looked at the upcoming forecast and this weekend is suppose to be in the 802s and slight chance of showers. Nobody likes to wander around in the sweltering heat, especially when you're half in the bag or extremely elevated. But the meteorologists here in town are 50/50 on everything. So we shall see. The two-day festival kicks off this Saturday and it promises to have a lil' somethin' for everybody. Enjoy this Mile High Music Festival Mixtape to get you in the mood for the [...]

The Denver Post's Underground Music Showcase slowly approaches and the list of 300+ bands is a bit daunting when trying to formulate a plan of attack! On the plus side, you have four days to cram. On the down side, you have four days to cram. Between now and the beginning of the showcase, I will be spotlighting the bands that you SHOULD NOT MISS! Snake Rattle Rattle Snake is a female led rock band that make it impossible to sit/stand still while listening to their dirty [...]

The Denver Post ran a story last month detailing the work of a very cool ongoing study about the city's high " Creative Vitality Index ," which measures economic factors related to the music community. Through a series of qualitative interviews (I got to wax lyrical a few months ago over mimosas; it's how we do research here) and analysis of quantitative data, they discovered that music matters in Denver — "even more than it does in self-declared music cities like Seattle, Austin, Chicago and Portland." According to the study, the amount spent per person on [...]

For those of you at SXSW , you should check out some of the best talent Colorado has to offer. Plus, there's free booze involved, and I'm sure by now most of you are all "SoCo'd" out by now. On March 19th, 2010 Mile Hi-Fidelity will take over The Habana Calle 6, located at 709 E 6th St., from 12:00pm noon to 6:00pm. The daytime festival will feature two stages, one indoor and one out, to provide us with the capacity required to host a showcase of this scale. Confirmed acts include: Westword [...]

We're happy to tell you about some new friends we've made from Denver, Colorado: Snake Rattle Rattle Snake. They've just release their self-titled EP, and they've already us wanting more. We're offering up one of these tracks to you, which showcases the brooding vocals Hayley Helmericks. For some reason, this recalls a really dark version of Pretty Girls Make Graves if they were more post-industrial than post-punk, if that makes sense to anyone but me. The group is making their way to Austin for SXSW, and we'll [...]
So. Sometimes there are people in this world who just seem to operate on a different clock. They see life as if there were 30 hours in a day (ex: Heather Powell Browne from I Am Fuel, You Are Friends ). They are somehow able to be everywhere and do everything, and never seem to need time to slow down. They are available to play in, say, 5 or 6 local bands at the same time, without having any conflicts whatsoever. And this week's Most Fuckable Rockstar clearly operates in a world like [...]
The smell of a thousand dead hornets decaying in the little space above my kitchen cabinets has left me in a thoughtful mood presently. The smell isn't quite dead animal smell – it's dead insect smell: an odor normally so minute that it would never register, but multiplied by a thousand, it reeks horribly. The scary part was that before the exterminator came, I heard this faint noise in the kitchen above the cabinets that sounded like if you were to ball up a plastic grocery bag and let it re-expand next to your ear. To think I [...]
Per Katherine's request, here's the Denver super-group Snake Rattle Rattle Snake opening for the Houses' CD Release at the Meadowlark earlier this month. I was really on the fence regarding which audio source sounded better (audience only, or with the board mix), so I've posted both versions. You can sample both and then grab whichever you prefer.
