Let's face it, remixes of the indie rock have gotten huge within the last couple years. I've come across enough of them to justify having a "best of" list just for remixes. You've got indie headed into electronic music, and you've got BBC Essential Mix quality DJs mixing indie rock into their sets. It's high time. Top 10 Remixes: 10. Lily Allen - Smile (Mark Ronson Revisit) Mark Ronson's "revisit" of Lily Allen's "Smile" turns a breezy summer song into a wintery, 60's girl pop song. A fine [...]

Well, it finally happened. I was finally subjected to my first live performance of the season of "Feliz Navidad," which ne'er fails to make me want to gouge my eardrums out with a knitting needle. I also was at a fancy office Christmas party on Friday night and the soul cover band kept throwing in trombone lines from Joy To The World and Sleigh Ride, etc etc etc. It brought to my attention the fact that this post is long overdue. I've got a pretty sizeable collection of " Christmas Music That Won't Drive [...]
As promised, here is my list for Best Songs of 2006. Or some of them anyway. I tried to keep it small and pick the Top 5, but that was very difficult. Ben Kweller - Penny On The Train Track from Ben Kweller ( buy ) Kasabian - Shoot the Runner from Empire ( buy ) Ross Copperman - As I Choke from his forthcoming album Snow Patrol - You're All I Have from Eyes Open ( buy ) [...]
OK, I almost have this figured out. I have 25 favorite songs for 2006. But I just got a new album, so I might throw in another; who knows. I do know that I have posted seven of them so far. Don't worry, I'll pull it all together into one list at the end. I still refuse to number them (you saw how many headaches Indie Mom had over that), but in time-honored tradition, I am saving the ones I like the very best for last. Favorites of 2006, 15 - 18: [...]

I'm still not sure why I titled this mix "fix me now" although maybe at the time I was working on this slice of music it was a cry for help. I've been dealing with a lot lately. I think that's all that needs to be vomited here. So below is the mix. Bowing to popular opinion I have decided to upload the mix as a single file download. The individual songs are still available here, but if you want to just snag them all at one time I've supplied [...]

Since it is Black Friday, you can official start listening to Holiday Music. Below is the much request repost of my Xmas in July mix. I have attempted a zip file of all the tracks. With any luck, if you want the whole kit-and-caboodle, it'll work for you. Just a heads up, look for two more Holiday Music Mixes in the near future. (I assembled this last year) 1 ~ Ed Harcourt: In The Bleak Midwinter 2 ~ The Arcade Fire: [...]

It's Happy Hour Again (Thanks, Peter! ;) ) Most of the work we had planned for this week is done, and only small problems remain to be solved. I'm glad it's over now, as I have a lot of catching up to do with the important things in life... meaning listen to all the stuff my fellow blogonauts have been posting during the week! I'm only giving you a little mixtape today, and I will hopefully start my regular [...]

Snow Patrol just released a AOL Session a couple of days ago where they covered a song from my favorite Bright Eyes album. The song is "You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will" and their acoustic cover of the song isn't too bad at all. If you're a Snow Patrol fan, make sure to stop by iTunes and get the whole Live session (it includes their best song - Run). Here's the cover and the original: MP3 Snow Patrol - You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. (Live) [...]
Snow Patrol became a little More Adventurous ? As much as I should love Snow Patrol for writing arguably good pop tunes I just can't help but be unimpressed by the predictability of the arrangements. When Rilo Kiley appear to take on the same style why does it sound better to me? Is it because I fancy Jenny Lewis? Probably. Maybe you can figure it out... Snow Patrol - Wow [ buy Final Straw ] Rilo Kiley - [...]

Hope you don't mind if I just go ahead and skip the McSteamy vs. The Nazi, McDreamy or McVet and Izzy's riches bit and concentrate on what Grey's Anatomy 's doing better then radio: Providing exposure for music artists. First, and foremost, is my beloved TV on the Radio , who's song "Province" played during an emergency C-section, which is somehow appropriate, as listening to TVOTR's art is like having to throw away your birth plan and just give in to the unexpected turn that life (and art) throw your way. [...]

Before today's great post, I want to remind you all-- especially those in the D.C. area --about the contests in swag corner . They're closing soon, so enter today. There will be several other CD give-aways in the next few weeks. I'm thinking of setting up a pay pal button to help me cover postage. If you all donate postage money, I'll give stuff away. If you don't, I won't. What do you all think? (Anybody reading this?) [...]

Sacrificed seeing Beck's "secret" show last night in order to see Snow Patrol at the Wiltern. They're a really great band that writes songs exactly how I like them....fun but dramtic, indie yet pop-ish. Current Favorite Song: Open Your Eyes (.mp3)
Where has that time go? Seems like I only left, but here I am again. Guess it's no use moaning how holidays are always to short... so, let's not! I had a great time over in Canada, seen lots and lots of beautiful things, and most important: I didn't get kicked out of the car for my mixtapes! As a matter of fact, my mates loved most of it, even the French one. We had lots of laughs when I popped the CD in as soon as we crossed the border to Quebec. [...]
For Spring Dancing, Unless Your A Fruity Northern Hemispherian Hey Guys, sorry about the prolonged hiatus, apparently theres this thing called University, it's kind of a drag, and theres work involved. Haven't stopped listening to music though and I thought I'd compile the best of what i've heard while I was away. Some New, Some Not So. Make it into a cd, give it to your Mum. 1. Beck [...]
I love Snow Patrol . I don't know why I don't have any albums of theirs, just random songs here and there. It's like that for so many artists I love. Oh well. Anyway, I have two songs. One is a cover of Beyonce's Crazy in Love. Yes. It is awesome. Another is an awesome remix of their newest single (as far as I know), Chasing Cars. Here they are, enjoy. Crazy In Love Chasing Cars (The Hey Team Remix) [...]

Three items: This is the sexiest song I've heard in ... well, ages, really. Sorry to be the last person on this bandwagon, seriously. Everyone was telling me about this record, and for some reason, I just kept acting like I had no idea who Junior Boys were. Duh. Junior Boys -- In The Morning Junior Boys -- In The Morning (Alex Smoke remix) Junior Boys -- Bellona My neighbor is totally running away [...]

Beyoncé's new solo LP, B'Day has caused a decent amount of stir in both the mainstream and the indie blog world actually. Matthew Fluxblog wrote a pretty great piece on her the other day insinuating that she is one of the most talented songwriters of her generation. It was enough for me to go ahead and check out her new album, and a good excuse to go ahead and throw up a couple of my favorite Beyoncé covers. Personally, I'm just glad [...]
