[photo by acidjack] For those who like melodic, somewhat anthemic, approachable rock music, it probably hasn't been a great last few years for you. Making fun of the banality of bands like Coldplay isn't even fun anymore; sure you've got your Bon Iver types out there, but they won't exactly whip crowds into a frenzy. Younger bands are doing a whole range of things, but it seems too often that gimmickry, rather than greatness, wins the day. Surely there's a place for good music in this style that doesn't sound like it's trying too [...]
I'm doing what I can to get caught up on all of the music I've missed in the last month. Here's what's making life better at the moment. . . Dream Brother - "Haunted Heart (ft Paul Spranger)" I was already stoked to have Ian from One For The Team putting out some solo material [...]

Join the Digsters tomorrow night at Pianos for a killer line-up featuring Brooklyn heroes Snowmine and Via Audio , the lovely voice of Sea Of Bees , and friend of the Dig, Beat Radio . Hit the jump for a little sneak peak of each band.

Spanish Prisoners live at Pianos One of my resolutions for 2012 was to make it out to more live shows during the week. Kudos to exfm for breaking me out of my shell with their party at Pianos headlined by Spanish Prisoners (and my latest discovery) Snowmine . I was quite mesmerized with both live both sets so I ask that you just take my word and catch Spanish Prisoners and Snowmine when they hit your local stage...you'll be doing yourself a favor. [...]

By Erin Routson When I was sixteen, a boyfriend who was leaving for college made me a mix tape with Dashboard Confessional's "Age Six Racer" on it. His expression was earnest and correct: "Hey thanks, thanks for that summer" would echo in my head repeatedly when he moved away. That was what we used music for when we had just gotten our driver's licenses and fumbled around each other's bodies awkwardly any time we were alone. Instead of saying things out loud, or forming our own [...]
Well, I’ve been doing this blogging thing for more than a year now, and the difference between online friends and IRL friends no longer exists. The number of amazing people I have met in the indie music world that I am lucky enough to now call friends is uncanny. I wanted to show my appreciation for all of the awesome blogger/music writer folks that have helped me realize it’s ok to obsess over music 24/7 and made me feel like I’m a part of something bigger. [...]

Twin Sister and Snowmine recently go together to record songs for Weathervane Music's Shaking Through series. The series is produced by Weathervane Music and WXPN in Philadelphia. During that experience, each band grew such an admiration for the other that they were compelled to remixed each others songs that were [...]

Happy Friday! To honor the week's end, two of our favorite psychedelic bands have joined forces through Weathervane Music . This wonderful collaboration involves Snowmine and Twin Sister . Each band added their own touch to their singles. Snowmine atmospherically crystalized Twin Sister's "Meet the Frownies", while Twin Sister twirled Snowmine's "Curfews" with a lo-fi disco spin. The Double Remix is a release under Philadelphia's non-profit music organization, Weathervane. They are the same guys who gave us Snowmine's "Curfews" last year. Below is Snowmine's take on Twin Sister but visit Weathervane for both downloads. [...]

Photo by Raoul Ortega Tycho FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd Scott Hansen is an artist with a vision. Before he debuted on the music scene as electronic composer Tycho , Hansen was known by his graphic design pseudonym, ISO50. As ISO50, Hansen produces intricate, often illusionary water color pieces—images that make an appealing first impression and grow more complex when scrutinized. His songs sound about the same. Hansen’s 2002 EP, Science Of Patterns, and the 2004 album Sunrise Projector hinted at his musical ideas, but it wasn’t until his 2011 [...]

1. Snowmine - "The Hill" Typically by the time there's snow settling outside I'm listening religiously to somber acoustic songs.
