I've gone high concept this week, and that is not a reference to this week's cover art which is by my friend Davie Kaufmann. No, I mean there's a gimmick: all the songs on Summer Fridays 4.10 are less than two minutes long. All 33 of them (maybe even 34). With this kind of criteria, we don't really have much in the way of new music (two songs by my count) but quality remains high of course. I've tried to vary it up as much as possible because the bulk of the two-minutes-or-less songs in my collection are of the [...]
Stream the entire Under the Covers Vol 2 tribute to Nerves album, which includes a song from Tuam's Brian Kelly.

amanda sutton Download Davila 666 "Hangin' On The Telephone" (from Under the Covers Vol. 2 out now on Volar/I Hate Rock 'n' Roll) Like most aging rock 'n' rollers in L.A., I've sang a Nerves cover onstage with a band at some point in my life, and I also hate young people. So I wasn't exactly unbiased when I was loaned (not even given) the super-limited cassette version, hot off [...]

So, it turns out I neglected a GIMME TINNITUS Tradition. I didn't post my End of the Year Dump . Here is all the stuff I meant to get to last year but for some reason or another just didn't get around to, sorry y'all. But you know what? It makes for a pretty awesome mixtape. Listen. Downloadables: resolution of one (mp3) by guards (d/l the GUARDS ep @ Bandcamp ) Halcyon Days (mp3) by So Cow [...]

Tweet Mixtape: Surveying the Indie Pop Renaissance (Podcast #241) We love psych rock, garage, folk rock, singer-songwriter stuff, and a variety of other musical genres here at The Bay Bridged, but our first love was, and will forever be, indie pop. From the jangly to the synthy, an uber-catchy, clever pop song is something to be treasured. After what felt like a few slightly lean years for the genre (from our perspective, anyway), we're now in the midst of a real fertile [...]

With HPX looming next week, I've been trying my level best to get some coverage up on the site for our fair city's biggest music festivus, but with it being Thursday, the day we usually put up some of the various videos we come across in our blogging travails, I thought I'd change things up a bit. Ha, just kidding, this is an HPX-themed edition of Videos Hits sucka! Well you can hardly blame us can you? It's kind of a big musical todo in these parts, and in our [...]

Now that Irving Plaza is called Irving Plaza again, I feel that it's ok to recommend shows there. It was, after all, the first venue I ever went to in NYC. While it does seem slightly ridiculous to see all three of these bands in such a large venue (remember when The Thermals were opening up for Ted Leo in the Starlight Ballroom in Philly? Oh, you didn't go to college in Philadelphia circa 2006? Nevermind), all three of them are class acts, and it might end up being a really exciting show because of that. It should be fun [...]
Historically the week of live shows preceeding the CMJ Music Marathon is normally as light as it gets here in New York City. This year things are a little different as the week has shaped up to be a pretty solid one. King Khan & the Shrines is the highlight for us but there's a... Read More

Mr Brian Kelly, and his band of merry men...better know to the world as So Cow are heading back to New York this weekend...yep it's the second third time these Irish gents have made it to the states in 2010 touring on the release of the fabulous Meaningless Friendly . This time around So Cow are sharing the stage with some people that I truly love...in New York City alone they will take the stage with The Thermals, Cymbals Eat Guitar, and last but certainly not least is WOMEN. The criminally underrated So Cow will be launching their third North American tour this saturday at Crown Liquors in Chicago, featuring plenty of guests along the way. Originally the solo project of Irishman Brian Kelly, So Cow has since expanded into a three piece noise-pop band. What's the occasion for the tour you ask? Well So Cow have a new album out on Tic Tac Totally that deserves your attention entitled Meaningless Friendly . Where their Self-Titled album felt more like a collection of singles, Meaningless Friendly plays more like [...]

Round five in the State Vs… series and this month saw us up against label-du-jour, 2010's newcomers, Popical Island . The Mercantile on Dame Street has recently undergone a facelift and we had the pleasure of moving into a freshly renovated gig-space, The Polecats were the first to play there just the night before. Opening for State we had the hardest working, cock-rock band on the scene right now – Biggus Diccus, and it was a mighty phallic affair; porno-moustaches and cod-pieces in tow. All slapping bass and testicular riffs, the lads, led by the gutter-minded [...]

The State vs.... live music series is back next week for another night of gig action at the Mercantile on Dame Street in Dublin. This time we're teaming up with what is shaping up to be the Irish independent label of the year, Popical Island . Having released their debut compilation earlier in the summer (review here ), the collective has found itself the toast of the Irish media. Seeing as our guests are so damn good we're giving them two bands, one man trail blazer So Cow (pictured) and the glorious sunny pop [...]

Hey, Ya'll I'm on vacation! But that isn't going to stop me from letting you know that one of my favorite bands is playing two shows in New York City this weekend! Ireland's best... SO COW is back in the US, and their final stop is here in NYC! It just so happens they are playing my favorite out door music series...and it can't get any better because they are playing with THE OH SEES! TONIGHT July 16th: [...]

I have some really great news, you won't even be able to believe it. I am the proud owner of a new kitten. She is very cute and looks kind of like a snow leopard. I named her Georgina Harrison because that is totally how I roll. I can't help it! Anyway, I'm very happy about this new development in my life, and I just want to think about flowers and sunshine (from the comfort of an air-conditioned room, of course). So, please listen to this mix I downloaded, it's pretty, wh...
