>> Boston institution Midriff Records will release next week Age Rings ' AM/PM EP, a companion piece to last year's best-of-2011 long-player Black Honey . The EP is comprised of songs resected from the Boston-based indie rockers' original, two-disc version of the acclaimed long-player it issued to Kickstarter backers a year ago. Midriff's release of AM/PM is no surprise, as it had been the label's plan since releasing its one-disc iteration of Black Honey last November [ review ] to release the songs it had excised at a later date. Due to be launched (at a Barfly gig ) on 21 June, Channel Cairo 's second single (for gaspings about the first, see here ) A Year is a thing of rare accomplishment: soaring, swirling pop-rock that seems to have been tailormade for those back-of-the-neck hairs. It's nostalgic, whimsical, fraught, fulsome and destined to make for some real 'moments' at this summer's festivals. No surprise then to learn that, when featured in a weekly battle of new songs on 6 Music DJ Tom Robinson 's blog, Fresh On The Net , it won by a mile. [...]

Dyscarnate And So It Came To Pass Siege Of Amida Records 27 February 2012 by Von Eshewing the recent trend in modern metal to be as technical as possible, Dyscarnate put their faith in big, brutal riffing and complex, but never wanky, drum work. That isn't to say they pound out drop-D, one-note, bore-you-to-tears crap-fests [...]
Janski obviously coming up huge today with another great, feel-good progressive house track. Graduating from our very own Dartmouth College a few years back, Janski has been killing it with both his original tracks and remixes. I've already replayed this track five times in the last hour and every time it gets my head bumping more and more. Enjoy! Be sure to check out Janski's other tracks on his SoundCloud page here and show some support on his Facebook page here . Janski - "Soar (Original Mix)"
Awww, you guys didn't think we'd pack up for Christmas without giving you a little gift now, did you? In the best of all cheapskate Christmas traditions, rather than go to the effort and expense of going out to the shops, fighting our way through the hordes of last-minute present buyers, and then umm and ahh over what to get each and every one of our readers, instead we're just going to re-package up and pass on someone else's gifts to you. And just what is it that we're passing on to you? Why, a vertiable mountain [...]

Morgan Page has such a jaw-dropping resume as a remixer that sometimes its possible to forget - at least momentarily - how much he brings to the table on his original tracks. You'll soon be reminded of the latter phenomenon again, though, as Page is planning a new album release sometime later this year. But if you can't hold out that long without being thrown a bone, fear not - the man who has remixed everyone from Coldplay to Katy Perry has kept you in mind. To give his fans something [...]

Robyn continues her trek across Europe and North America to perform in front of stadium-sized crowds and to impress them with her vibrant, high energy dance pop. Carry-on? Check. Boarding pass? Check. Performance by the most killingest pop star on the planet? Bonus! Lucky, lucky travelers flying in or out of New York City's JFK Airport yesterday were treated to the one and only Robyn performing for passengers and contest winners at JetBlue's Terminal 5! Of course, Idolator was front and center to hang with one of our very favorite artists as she performed a six-song set comprised of perfect pop hits from her 2005 self-titled LP and last year's impressive Body Talk (one of our 2010 faves ). [...]

Adele has cut short Lady Gaga's stint at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 by returning to the peak position on the main album chart for a tenth non-consecutive week. Adele's 21 sold another 114,000 copies while Gaga's Born This Way moved 100,000 in its third week of release. But as Billboard notes, it's the Broadway cast album for Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez's multi-Tony winner The Book Of Mormon that truly deserves kudos this week. [...]

We may be even more surprised than you to learn that a very promising shoegaze act resides in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. In a less-than-well-planned move after graduating college, we temporarily settled in C-Ville. We were very pleasantly surprised to find touring indie rock acts came through town ( Archers of Loaf , Jeff Mangum , Cat Power , Versus , Godrays , Dirty Three , Trans Am , Sebadoh , Jon Spencer Blues Explosion , et cetera) with thrilling regularity. And we were even more surprised to find some home-grown talent there [...]
I know this girl who scratched and clawed for six years before finally graduating from college (congrats Shannon). To celebrate I made her brownies that did not come from a box (sorry Beagle). The brownies were done on a whim so they weren't as fabulously awesome as they could have been, but they were still pretty dang good. I used this recipe , minus the sugary topping, and then added some of these and this . Not messing around, the graduate already said goodbye to her previous state of residence and has begun [...]

American Idol season 10's top 7 - Fox At last!!!! Current songs on American Idol. Last night's theme, songs from the 21st century, meant the lucky seven wannabe idols would perform nothing released before 2000. It was a dangerous theme for contestants who fair better singing to the typical standards, but it was probably the important theme yet. It showed who could have a viable career as a contemporary artist and who should go back to singing karaoke for fun at Applebees. Here's a rundown of how the top 7 did: [...]

This week's American Idol Power List covers the Top 11 once again, since by now we know that Casey Abrams was granted the one-time save by the judges on last night's results show after he received the lowest votes. Last week we noted that Casey needed to curb the screaming, and, well, he only kind of half -listened. (Tsk, tsk!) Head below to see where we ranked the contestants in the third week of the Idol Power List! After Motown night on Wednesday [...]
