Not checking one's e-mail for a few days can be a foolish oversight in this feverishly digital, 24/7 age. It may well be a key way to relax but, when there could be invites to see a band like Pennsylvania's SOARS in your back yard - at their CD release show, no less - the opportunity cost is just too bloody high. OFFICIAL [...]

Rogue Wave We want to tell you that, later tonight, you should hop in your car and make the trip up to Bethlehem for Soars ' record-release show at St. Bernard's. After all, we've been hyping up the bliss-pop band the last few weeks , and we are genuinely amped for the release of their debut self-titled album next week. But, between the distance, the weather, and the band's scheduled performance at Johnny Brenda's in late November, we just can't in good conscious send you out there. The fact that there are [...]

Well, well—look who's putting out their first record just in time for the cold-weather season? It's our favorite Lehigh Valley bliss-pop quartet, Soars . As we mentioned a little over a month ago , we're pretty big fans of the band's icy, My Bloody Valentine/Cocteau Twins vibe—even if it does make our already freezing office feel a few degrees colder. Soars releases its debut self-titled album next Tuesday on La Société Expéditionnaire ; thankfully, by the time the band returns to Philly for a November 27th performance at Johnny Brenda's (following a pair of CMJ [...]
| words: Jamie Milton Photo: N. Krebill The alarm bells ring incessantly, the bass throbs within an inch of your skull, ‘ Figurehead’ is a homage to doing things drastically. This song progresses from one stance to the next, over and over again, but not once is anything done with subtlety or consideration for others. It’s bold music and it comes from a very bold album: SOARS’ self-titled debut hits our shores this December (only good [...]
ZACH THAT: About a month ago I gave the beautifully ambient band SOARS our Required Listen stamp . Their self-titled release has been in constant rotation here at WLFY and I've always said one song stands out as one of the top tracks of 2010. That song is "Figurehead" and has a relentlessly sharp guitar part that builds and builds...never letting go until the last second. I can't recommend this song enough, do your ears justice, put on the headphones and give it a go. SOARS - "Figurehead" [...]
Fans of dream pop and shoegazer should circles October 5th on their calendars. That's the day that Pennsylvania quartet Soars drop their ethereal debut album. The stage for the record is set by "Introduction", a track that hints of the cacophony to come. Whether it's the meandering soundscape of "The Sun Breaks Every Way But One" or the shifty phases of "Throw Yourself Apart", Soars creates a

I kinda like the direction that Pennsylvania band Soars is heading based on one song that I've heard. That's surely not enough to form an opinion, but I'm doing it anyway, and it's a good opinion so who cares? The foursome of Briana Edwards, Chris Giordani, Anthony Perrett and David Kresge came together out of four individual bands and I for one am happy with the sum of their parts. Their self-titled debut album is being released on La Société Expéditionnaire on October 5, but here's a taste of what is to come. "Throw Yourself [...]
Add another noun-as-verb, difficult to Google, but nonetheless remarkable selection to your library - Soars . You'll be glad you did. Mystically floating in from the fertile crescent of Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, Soars' silky and slow burning self-titled album offers an ethereal half hour of aerodynamic, cathartic sounds. Dramatic, elegant dream pop sure to fire neurons in the Slowdive/Bark Psychosis/Talk Talk part of the brain, Soars' eight tracks congeal into a meditative yet engaging and accessible mood exploration. As such, there are [...]

words: Jamie Milton Sometimes three seconds of a song is more than enough of an indication as to whether you’ll like the piece as a whole. Such is the eerie, grand production on SOARS’ ‘ Throw Yourself Apart ’, that it simply states to me in an instant that this is my kind of thing. I’m a sucker for atmosphere and this song prioritises just that. The band are from Pennsylvania, they’re about to release their debut album, details of which [...]

SOARS - Throw Yourself Apart Nestled in the Leigh Valley of Eastern Pennsylvania SOARS makes music that gives you the feeling of a dark slow motion sequence of blackbirds flying away. As though you were wandering the lands where characters of Fever Ray videos live and carry out their day. New album comes out October 5th on La Société Expéditionnaire.
Well gang, I’m happy to say that these days our Friday Mixtape is really firing on all cylinders. The recent addition of our new Covers section (brought to you by Cover Me) has lifted the mix to a previously unthinkable level of awesomeness, and our other sections are feeding off that new energy. Alright, I might be exaggerating just a bit (I’m not sure if our sections can actively step up their game on their own), but I’m sincere when I say this tape is top notch. For our new formula, we kept the [...]

By popular demand, I am bringing back the Hodge Podge this week. I will not go so far as to say that it is back for good, but it is here again today. Partly because I would hate to let Brian down and partly because it seem the most efficient manner in which to post a few tracks that I have been meaning to get up for a while now. Let's get it on... I've been sleeping on this Soars track for weeks now and I'm not really [...]
