something changes when you get to a hundred miles an hour. you're just driving along, and then you notice something different, without looking at the speedometer - the car isn't forcing against the wind anymore, or the drag, and the road is pushing you forward rather than sticking the tyres. it seems slower than eighty, too. there are smells on the road that are much more pronounced and consistent, if only because they are some of the familiar smells of the road, and are blasted through the dashboard along with the cold air. the smell, of course, is [...]

Nine consecutive boss battles -- four cakewalks, four tedious grinds, and one absolute pain in the ass -- with nary a savepoint in sight. Lose one, and it's time to start all over again at the beginning. FUCK YOU, ROGUE GALAXY. If I hadn't already invested three days of my life in playing the game, I'd have snapped the disc in two. Soft Cell - Frustration (from Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret , 1981) - Marc Almond feels my pain. Why do I find that so disturbing? [...]

Lined Paper Revolution Genre: New Wave / Powerpop / Electro From: Lancaster, California, United States If imitation is truly the sincerest form of flattery then Marc Almond must be extremely flattered. They claim to sound like new wave explosions in your pants but to these ears The Lined Paper Revolution's minimal, sparse, 80s tinged electronic sound is more of a non stop erotic cabaret. Lead singer Joey's adrogynous, teasing vocals [...]
Soft Cell - Martin Soft Cell - Sex Dwarf How many films out there have had songs written about them, I don't mean songs that were in the film or on the soundtrack, but songs written after the fact? I'm not really sure there are too many, there are a lot of songs that mention films in them, but not so many that are based on a character or plot from a film. The only other one I can think of at

I'd go on a limb and say that on most days my favorite David Gray song is "Say Hello Wave Goodbye," the beautiful, winding, 9-minute behemoth from White Ladder . It's not catchy, no chorus that sticks in your head; it reminds me more of a confessional poem of a complicated relationship. I have a hard time articulating exactly why I love it so much, but from those opening notes ( do it , click the blue arrow) it just seems to encapsulate some ephemeral longing and an intangible sadness. [...]
This is the music only the 80s could produce. Synthesizing goodness you just can't help but dance to. These are some of my favourite 'new wave', 'synthpop', or 'whatever you want classify them as' songs, some of them new-found, others always loved. They are songs you can put on at any occasion and they'll be universally loved. Sitting here writing this, I can't keep still, they're that infectious. Those familiar with songs, sit back and enjoy, those new to them, welcome to the 80s. Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order The band [...]

Ba-donk, donk . That's the sound of intense dance floor love or intense hatred. Hey, if the two minute song is a smash, you make the song nine minutes, it makes it even better, right? Too much of a good thing? What's that supposed to mean? On the other hand, if you're a DJ, a mega-remix like this means you can run to the bathroom, run to the bar for another drink, go home, bake some chocolate chip cookies and run back to the turntables before the [...]

I was out at a black-tie dinner last night and didn't get home until after 5am. I'm feeling very tired and uninspired. Words are not coming easy. This is the song that I think best reflects my mood. No-one should take it personally. mp3 : Soft Cell - Entertain Me And here's more from the archive - originally posted on 3 October 2006. mp3 : A House - Endless Art mp3 : A House - More Endless Art
I'm not really in a typing mood tonight, so I'm going to keep things brief. But I got good tunes so I don't think you all will mind that much. ABC Poison Arrow (Trevor Horn Remix) Theme From Man-Trap Theme From Man-Trap (Lounge Sequence) Trevor Horn probably produced half the songs on this blog. This remix of 'Poison Arrow' doesn't sound that different to me, but the 'Man-Trap' songs are radically different versions of the same song, redone in a slow lounge [...]
Yet another soundtrack that has ‘80s tunes redone and the originals and some current stars doing their own new tunes. Kinda fun stuff for a drive down memory lane. Lilix ~ What I Like About You Soft Cell ~ Tainted Love Pat Penatar ~ Love Is A Battlefield Bonus song from previous soundtrack: Geoff Muldaur’s Brazil (someone requested a repost of this song) Buy it PS ~ As for the live music

Today we’re going to take a look at the ambiguous aspects of urbanism, the paradoxical feelings of isolation and loneliness associated with living in the dense population clusters of the modern urban core. In other words, here’s an assortment of songs with “city†in the title. When picking these songs I avoided the most obvious choices (“Suffragette Cityâ€, “Union City Bluesâ€, “I Love Livin’ in the Cityâ€) and went with some personal favorites mixed in with material form off the beaten path. The Jam - In the City (from In the City [...]
