British singer-songwriter Sophie Michalitsianos better known as Sol Seppy released her solo debut, The Bells of 1 2, on Grönland Records back in 2006. "Enter One" best represents the power of her talent, with a contrast of soft piano and sharp lyrics able to tear hearts out of chests. It's a go-to song of mine when calming the storm, letting go of the past to best plan the immediate future. Spontaneity isn't ruined by planning. Not if you plan to be spontaneous. " After a storm I wanna let go of [...]

This podcast is unconscionably late once more and again I am going to plead that there is a perfectly good reason for this. Today has been taken up with constant recording here at Toad Hall, and I myself have been finishing the video for the Honeytrap Toad Session which finally, finally will be making an appearance this time next week. My job is virtually finished, and it's messy, but it will be a corker. This podcast has no real theme, but I did let Neil choose most of the songs, so that gives the podcast something [...]

I am going to bed soon. So here's a song which makes me want to sleep. A Lullabye, if you will. As well as a random picture I took of a pagoda. I guess you could sleep in one of those. Sol Seppy - Enter One Edit: After re-looking at that picture, I almost feel like I should have posted a song by some Japanese Wilco cover band, which I don't actually know, but certainly exists.... See what I mean?

(photo by Will Govus )</small Sol Seppy - "Enter One" . I was flying back into Montreal, two months ago. It was night. Girls spoke in murmurs, boys dreamed. I heard the hushhhh of the engine and looked down onto dark fields, cloaked forests. There was no sky - just cloud, like fog, like the fog-wreathed edge of the sea, above us. Our craft was silver and in its way silent. I watched the clouds out the window and suddenly began to see these bright streaks of flash, these streak brights of flash. The mist was [...]

dream pop // laptop folk Sophie Michalitsianos was born in England, studied contemporary composition and orchestration in Sydney, Australia, and currently is New York based singer-songwriter, a professional pianist and cellist. Her debut as Sol Seppy, The Bells Of 1 2 (2006), embodies gentle and dreamy folkly melodies, Goldfrapp-ish electro-pop tendencies, fuzzy electronic beats and gorgeous vocals. Sophie's music varies from simple to odd and complex tunes, yet never overly eclectic. Precious songs. Sol Seppy - A to N Sol Seppy - [...]

This was not easy?Feel free to leave a comment with your favorite album and selected song from that album in the comments. My other list will follow but for now here are my 2006 Album Picks: 1. [...]
Here's where I try to say something about the songs I really liked in 2006. I could talk about skill and technical virtuosity, artistic ambition, ideological good intentions, recording quality, even originality (that obsolete concept). But basically, the list below is made up of songs that meant something to me -- for lots of reasons, often personal ones. Most aren't there simply because they're beautiful or thrilling (though they often are), but because they seized a mood the first (or third or tenth) time I heard them, tied red ribbons around my fingers for the people and places and events [...]
10,000 years later I present a little mix to shake things up a bit. And if perhaps you may not consider the below songs loud enough to be considered "Rock" then go open your own blog because this is about as loud as this little lady gets. Have a great Monday! If Only.mp3 - Kooks Inside In/Inside Out Assassin.mp3 - Muse Black Holes and Revelations Gold Lion.mp3 - Yeah Yeah Yeah's [...]

Well... *sigh* That is it...That is all I have tonight. I am just in a dark, dark place. Call it EMO, call it PMS, I don't really care... I escape. My accomplice? Sol Seppy. She is phenomenal. And yes I know I have already covered her somewhere in a post down below and to the side under 2006 Album Cue. But she has had some other releases this year so just listen and you will see what I am carrying on [...]

Sophie Michalitsianos is the core of Sol Seppy . While it's the nickname she's going by, she insists it's also the proper name of her live band and the two things shouldn't be confused. Hey, y'know... that worked for PJ Harvey for at least two albums. At age 23, Michalitsianos relocated to the United States from her Australian homeland. Rather quickly she became acquainted with Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse, was asked to tour with him during his time sharing the stage each night with Radiohead, and then stuck around long enough [...]

10 songs without any relation between each other and barely connected through melancholy, deceit and violence. In the nursery - hallucinations? (Anatomy of a poet, 1994) Larvae - thanks for playing (feat. Jessica bailiff) (Dead Weight, 2006) Pram - the pawnbroker (Dark Island, 2003) Sol Seppy - injoy (the bells of 1 2, 2006) Ani Difranco - nicotine [...]

Loves Boy - Sol Seppy At first you can't quite place Sol Seppy geographically. Breathy vocals, minimalist beats and shivery strings (the latter igniting the hearth in what could otherwise be a chilly tableau) all suggest a certain je ne sais quoi ... Gallic shrug of nonchalance. But it turns out Sol Seppy is the nom de chant of conservatory trained Anglo-Australian Sophie Michalitsianos who, before recording her solo album, was a member of the extended Sparklehorse family. She's also written [...]
