![TLOBF Interview // Kevin Barnes [Of Montreal]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2874990_lg.jpg)
From the middle of the band's world tour, Kevin Barnes from O f Montreal found the time to answer a few questions from Jude Clarke, sharing his thoughts on lyric writing, album packaging and his major influences and favourite collaborations. There's also news of an exciting new project for early next year. How did you start in the music business/in the band? I just started writing songs and recording myself on a cassette four track while I was in high [...]

I haven't had a chance to soak in Of Montreal's latest offering False Priest , but based on the reviews I've been reading it's producing some pretty extreme - and opposing - reactions from critics and bloggers alike. Speaking only for myself, the idea of Of Montreal recording a track with Solange Knowles smelt of a gimmicky pairing, like those Grammy duets that always sound cooler than they actually turn out to be. "We now go to Orgy and Aretha Franklin singing 'Spanish Harlem'..." Contrary to my instincts, Solange and OM end up a pretty compelling duo. [...]
Finally, a post about music and fashion that doesn't involve meat ! The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week hit New York City this week, and the pop stars drew to it like moths to a stylish flame. Those judging next year's fashions in the oh so coveted front row seats were Kelly Osboure (host of the new E! show Fashion Police ), chic "Freak" Estelle , Louboutins lover J.Lo and even clotheshorse Kanye West made several appearances. Check out all the highlights from this style extravaganza—as Kelly Rowland's shirt says, "Fashion Must Go On!".
Ooh la la! French style magazine Fashizblack picked the beautiful Solange Knowles to grace the cover of their birthday issue this month, calling her their "very own muse". As seen in these gorgeous glossy prints, the "Sex Karma" songbird also has good fashion karma—clearly, fashion sense runs in the family . Flip through to see Beyonce's 'lil sis looking grown up, elegant and chic in her eclectic ensembles. And to read what Solange had to say to the French mag, head here . Which wardrobe choice is your fav?

Earlier today we put up our review of False Priest , of Montreal's latest album. We weren't exactly loving it, to be honest, but I can't deny this performance of the Solange Knowles -featuring "Sex Karma" on Pitchfork.tv's Cemetery Gates. You can watch of Montreal's 3 other performances documented by the talented people at P4KTV . Tags: Of Montreal , Solange Knowles [...]

Kevin Barnes' flamboyant, experimental, fascinating band Of Montreal released their ninth album, Skeletal Lamping in 2008. That was a florid, funk-laden, concept-led depiction of gender, sexuality and identity issues and was a remarkable if complex (often confused and confusing) work. This latest release, while sharing some of these esoteric elements, appears overall to be a somewhat calmer, even – whisper it – more grounded piece. Much more focus this time round seems to have been placed on romance and love. Once you get over the self-conscious hipster persona cleverly evoked in it, [...]

NPR First Listen grabbed my attention this afternoon when I discovered there were full streams of the new albums by Robert Plant & Band of Joy and Of Montreal . I'll expound on Mr. Plant later, but I felt the need to point you to a smooth & soulful 1-2 punch on the new Of Montreal record , False Priest (lots to look at in that album cover, hey?). So a month or two back, Of Montreal appeared on Jimmy Fallon to perform "Sex Karma" [...]
At least one certain CoS writer loved the first volume of Y o Gabba Gabba! Music Is... Awesome! Now, after the announcement of a 60-city tour , said carefree spirit and others like him will once again get to experience Yo Gabba Gabba! and its nurturing of inner child and actual children everywhere with the August 31st release of Music Is... Awesome! Volume 2 . Take that, adulthood. While not as flashy as the original (which featured tracks like Of Montreal's "Brush Brush Brush" or [...]

In the midst of working the major music festival circuit this summer, I got a chance to sit down with Dave 1 and P-Thugg of Chromeo on Sunday afternoon to chat with them for a few minutes about Outside Lands , their collaboration with Daryl Hall , their hip hop roots, and their new album. Chromeo at Outside Lands KataRokkar: You guys have had a really ambitious tour schedule doing festivals in the US and Europe. Now you are at Outside Lands [...]

What a week. If you read these recaps regularly, then you know by now that I could say that about every week. So much goes on in the world of music that come Friday it's nearly impossible to make sense of it all. However, these past few days were exceptional. It all began with an unfathomable tragedy overseas. A series of rumors (notice the multiple "may or may nots") ranging from legit to just plain silly followed. A string of exciting details concerning major forthcoming releases and related events kept music fans on their toes. And then there was everything else in [...]
Again, I'm sorry about the fake Daft Punk tracks posted here earlier today. I'm on my guard now.
Last night of Montreal played two songs for Jimmy Fallon, and there are videos online of both of them. The band wore white face paint with plenty of theatrical elements in between their performances. The first performance was "Sex Karma" along with guest vocals from Solange Knowles. The second was the excellent "Coquet Coquette". Watch both below: Sex Karma (Feat. Solange Knowles): Coquet Coquette Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post [...]

Yo Gabba Gabba faves of Montreal and the lovely Solange Knowles followed up their live cover of Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" by appearing together on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night. The pairing saw the band decked out in white face makeup as they performed the song "Sex Karma" with mimes sitting behind them and drinking milk. Meanwhile, Solange just danced joyously and sang her parts on the track, which will appear on of Montreal's upcoming LP False Priest (out September 14—along with just about every other album [...]
In the run up to the release of their new album False Priest , of Montreal have relased a trippy as expected trailer , a single and now performed another new track song live on Fallon. "Sex Karma" is a mid-tempo funky groove. It shifts through various instrumental sections with ease, letting the vocals fill all the gaps. It is a pretty good number for a duet with Solange whose indie cred, as we all know, runs pretty deep . Less logical are the Mimes in the background but of course nothing is [...]
Odd, that I just had a conversation with someone two nights ago about not being the hugest of Montreal fan, and here they swoop in, with a late night hit, that's got me rethinking their vibes. Bringing their new song, Sex Karma , along with old pal Solange Knowles , to Jimmy Fallon last night, the troupe performed the track, which in its entirety, is a little weird, funkily "out there", but straight away carving a cool little space in [...]
While "Coquet Coquette" has been their new song making the rounds on the webs so far, last night Of Montreal brought very special guest Solange Knowles onto Jimmy Fallon with them to perform "Sex Karma" from their upcoming new album False Priest , out September 14th. Do you think the members from Of Montreal stay in "Ziggy Stardust" mode all the time or is it just their stage personalities? Either way, I never get tire of it and they're in the middle of a massive tour to support their forthcoming album, "False Priest", due out Sept. 14. Check out Solange Knowles in the first video (via theAudioperv ) on vocals w/Kevin Barnes on "Sex Karma". of Montreal-Coquete Coquette [mp3] Tour Dates [...]
It doesn't really make any sense that Solange is this indie-friendly songstress - what is it, her hip clothing and haircut? - while the obviously more talented Beyoncé only appears to be cool when standing next to Jay-Z. Little sister Knowles appeared last night with eternally indie-friendly pop-rockers of Montreal on the pleasantly indie-friendly Late Night with Jimmy Fallon . They performed "Sex Karma", an R&B song originally intended for her album but which will appear on of Montreal's False Priest when it drops September 14th. It's pretty easy [...]
