
LMYE's New Label of the Year hardly released a thing in 2011. Not much of a basis for recognition, you may think. But however minimal its output what did come out of Desire Path was exquisite - & if there's a better record in 2012 than its next release (which almost made it out this year anyway, so gets co-opted for these purposes - along with its debut release from late last year...) these ears will be very, very surprised (& thrilled, obviously)... The Australian duo of Kane Ikin and Paul Fiocco have come a long way since the lovely Fyris Swan , released a few years back on the Hefty label. You certainly couldn't describe Ritual as a lovely record, not by any stretch of a particularly feverish imagination: for Ritual is a journey into vast, dark empty spaces, both geographically and of the heart. Their more recent self-titled set for 12k left you for dead on the forest floor at night, this album feels like a drugged and disorientated attempt to find your way home. [...]

My family is about 1700 miles away from me right now, which probably makes me even more of a sucker than usual for this meditative, lonely man's free jazz.
