Photo by Ben Lindbloom Because it wouldn't be Treefort if we didn't get a little emotional about it. Sunday brought a cloudless high desert sky, finally rewarding festival attendees with a day of perfect weather. The day's lineup at The Crux was packed with Boise natives with Tuck Nelson , Clarke and The Himselfs , and Grandma Kelsey giving the afternoon a wide range of sounds. By the time Grandma Kelsey set up her shrine in front of the stage, The Crux was at capacity. This one woman outfit is [...]

Final additions to the Treefort Music Fest lineup were added today, including The Walkmen , YACHT, Typhoon, and Brother Ali, as well as DHM favorites, Deep Sea Diver and The Grizzled Mighty . These (along with over 160 other bands from this final announcement alone) join the ranks of an already diverse roster of artists that features Animal Collective, Dan Deacon, Sage Francis, Youth Lagoon, and three nights in a row of Built to Spill being supremely bitchin' . In accordance with Treefort's [...]

Finn Riggins Crowd by Glenn Landberg A week or so ago, I lost the battle with my jelly legs and ringing ears. Inside the most packed, sweaty Neurolux I’ve seen in my limited 21+ lifespan, even the sweet sound of the Cave Singers couldn’t keep me from fleeing to topple into bed by eleven o’clock on the closing night of Boise 's inaugural Treefort Music Fest . Sitting on a sparsely populated, sunny Sunday Neurolux patio now, I reflect. Wristbands have been shed, the unmarked van to car ratio has [...]
A look at two black & white movies that played at Limerick's Belltable theatre this week.
Travels have been very much the order of the month here recently, so it seems only fitting to return to normal programming with the further exploits of Fairweather Academy and their "Well Traveled Man". A musical (and artistic) journey that I first previewed earlier this summer, the story is now furthered significantly with journal entries and a [...]

Folk music can be hugely dividing, with numerous people completely ignoring or being repulsed by anything tarred with the dreaded folk brush. There's still a common misconception that repels many, so I'll banish that now; not all folk sounds identical to Bob Dylan, in the same way that by listening to Madonna, you haven't experienced every form of pop music. So when talking about Solomon's Hollow, I sincerely hope that no one is instantaneously dismissive when I refer to him as folk music. After emerging from extremely DIY roots, Nate A aka Solomon's Hollow began by distributing free [...]
Tallest Man on Earth – Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird. Download “Like the Wheel” (mp3). These five songs are a quintessential example of the Tallest Man on Earth, the recording name used by Swedish folk singer Kristian Matsson. Only his guitar accompanies his gravelly voice. There are rollicking, upbeat songs and arresting ballads. He picks, strums and sings melodies that will require surgical extraction to remove them from your head. Double Dagger – Masks. Download “Pillow Talk” (mp3). This trio consists of drums, vocals, and a distorted and melodic bass. There are equal parts of the hardcore [...]

Continuing the count down of my 2010 highlights, here's the middle section. Top 10 coming tomorrow, then we can close this all off for another year. If I make this sound like a necessary evil at any point, you should know that I actually love this time of year...so don't let the weary bugger at the end of all this tell you otherwise. [...]
Here are The Wheel’s Still In Spin’s suggested new releases. The Greenhornes – **** [4 Stars]. It’s been five years since The Greenhornes released new music. In that time, Patrick Keeler and Jack Lawrence became the rhythm section for The Racounteurs. Now they’ve returned to supporting Craig Fox. This is the most consistent album of the band’s career. It’s a stellar return for this 60’s pop influenced, garage rock trio. Solomon’s Hollow – Genre Studies. Download “Silent Film” (mp3) Barn Owl Records is offering this album as a free download. Solomon’s Hollow is the nom de musique of singer-songwriter Nate [...]

If you have been following me on Twitter (or are aware of my fanatical excitement regarding the S.F. Giants' World Series win), I imagine you might have expected I'd be all up in here with Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" this morning, huh? Well, it has been hard to concentrate on anything else, but I've still found time to uncover great new music this week. Speaking of which - I don't know about you, but I definitely have a soft spot in my music-loving heart for a catchy pop tune recorded with a distinct DIY-approach. [...]
Not so long ago, I had the pleasure of delving into the subtle charms of Genre Studies , the forthcoming album of Solomon's Hollow . One of my favourite slices from the release was - still very much is - Silent Film , a sedate and optimistic number with touching lyrics that warm the heart. It is with pleasure, then, that the humble pages of H-T-A are the first spot you can view this deceptively simple video for this very tune... [...]

September has been a good month for me. I've discovered lots of great new music, enjoyed a few days of living work free, started a new job, and - most importantly - celebrated my first anniversary married to the woman I love. Although this isn't an anniversary mix, there are a lot of upbeat, celebratory cuts on here - which is fitting. So what should you be on the look out for here? Well, hopefully you'll discover some great new music including great tracks by folks like Seamonster, the Flips, Gayngs, DannielRadall, CSLSX, Closed Cassette, Teenage Reverb and Solomon's [...]

This is new and stems largely from my Blighty matey jc posting his monthly track listening us for all to see. To spin it back to artist level, here's who Last.fm tells me I've played most in the last month (top 5), as well as my thoughts on the results... 5. Black Tusk - 41 [...]
Somewhere between Horse Feathers and Jose Gonzalez you can find Boise's Solomon's Hollow with a pretty clean guitar tone and vocals that sounds a bit like older Turin Brakes. Soothing and sweet, I recommend checking out their myspace PAGE HERE . and then listen to the song below.. DOWNLOAD: Solomon's Hollow - Silent Film . enjoy.

Sometimes the right type of music streaming into one's home can transform the harsh reality of the world outside. So it was for me today, as the fleeting, mellow sounds of Solomon's Hollow drifted from the speakers, forming images of a warm, relaxing middle American day spent on the deck, in stark contrast to the foulness of the New York thunder storm lashing at my window panes. Well my daily discovery a few weeks back will be your daily discovery today. Ladies and gentleman, I bring you the rolling stone named Nate A. Nate currently records and performs under the guise of " Solomon's Hollow " - and if you take a look at his MySpace page you will find out the name is simply something he is hoping he can come to grips with in the future. In describing the music from one of his homemade CDRs he sent me (of about 150 originally "pressed"), the unassuming figure throws out glimpses of [...]
