Soundsupply Drop 2 from Soundsupply on Vimeo . We previously wrote about Soundsupply a few months ago, but with the release of the second bunch of albums we thought it was something worth revisiting in more detail. Over the past two years, the bundle model has become a viable distribution channel in the world of games. The idea is simple: gather up a bunch of independent games and sell them for cheap, usually without digital rights management (DRM) and with the bulk of the money raised [...]

I've been digging through my old records lately and I can't believe just how awesome music was between 2003 and 2007. This awesomeness has inspired a new series, The Throwback Mix Series , which will be a six or seven installment set of mixes each containing 20 songs that I loved during that time span - and each mix will be completely rad. Spread the word and be sure to support the artists you enjoy. Neutral Milk Hotel - "Holland, 1945" [...]

Each of our writers who posted this year worked tirelessly to cover bands that normally don't appear on your FM radio stations, and in the true spirit of the season, here are their lists. The last 2011 song is by the Springfield, Missouri bases Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. They have recently released their forth album. Tape Club documents the story of the band aurally, beginning with lo-fi home recordings (of the type found on their self-recorded debut Broom ) and ending with more polished studio tracks (like those found on the Chris Walla-produced Let It Sway ). For those unfamiliar with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Tape Club serves as an introduction to the evolution of the band's [...]

Somebody Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin 's latest release, Tape Club is a mammoth collection of 26 songs, each hand picked lovingly from the band's archive of songs they have been crafting in the 10 years that they have been together. The tracks span from the Broom- era release to their last release Let It Sway . Like an aural timeline of the band's progress, Tape Club starts off with their earlier lo-fi tape recordings and moves into the professional studio tracks of later releases towards the end. Here's a few [...]

COPY, ONUINU ( Bunk Bar , 1028 SE Water) Portland's electronic music scene has never been stronger, and tonight's lineup is an excellent sampler of what's out there. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - it's a mouthful, ain't it? Often abbreviated SSLYBY, this band is one that has been making music and performing for over 10 years. Formed in Springfield, Missouri in 1999, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin consists of John Robert Cardwell, primarily the vocalist, Will Knauer who plays guitar, [...]

Live This Month: December 2011 (Podcast #262) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. For a month when few new records are coming out and music journalists spend a lot of time meticulously crafting numerical lists of their favorite albums of the year, there are still a wealth of great live shows hitting the San Francisco area in December. Bands that had big years in 2011 - including Other Lives, Cass McCombs, and [...]

SSLYBY are by far one of my favourite Polyvinyl artists. Resonating from Springfield Missouri, the group started when Philip Dickey and John Robert Cardwell met in 2002 during their freshman year of college. After releasing their own split EP in 2004, they signed to Polyvinyl Records some time later in June 2006. You won't want to miss these guys @ The Biltmore Monday, December 5th ... we know Winnie won't. Enjoy their track, Yellow Missing Sings , from their recent album "Tape Club". Somebody Still [...]
Rarities compilations are almost always tricky business. On the one hand, they offer a band the opportunity to show a more adventurous side to themselves that may be lacking on their more polished final efforts. However, they can also contrarily be a mass of middle-of-the-road outtakes that are decent enough but don't really merit shouting about. There is, after all, a reason these songs have remained unreleased. With all that in mind, Tape Club , a collection of b-sides, non-album tracks and studio demos from ridiculously-named Illinois indie-poppers Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin , poses a serious [...]

It's always great finding a new band to get into only to find out that they are playing in town in just a few days. That's the case when I first heard the music from Springfield, Missouri natives Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin . Aside from the awesome (if not long) band name, these guys know how to put together a fun indie pop rock song. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is playing at Current on Friday, Oct. 28 with The Absent Center, The Trillions and Young Adult Fiction . [...]

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Tape Club By Stef Siepel Let me just say, upfront: these guys have the best band name ever. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is just an awesome name. There's something whimsical, something melancholic yet comforting about the "Someone still loves you" part. Whatever you do, someone still loves you, you're never alone. And then of course Boris Yeltsin, the President of Russia, who probably unfairly is best known for his little drunken dance. I've been saying this ever since they [...]

Rating: 9.2/10 Whenever I hear Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin I always seem to picture a bunch of ragged 16-year-olds playing tirelessly in their garage, trying to make it big. The age range is now off, and the crew has certainly made it out of the garage and into the studio. But even in the big leagues, SSLYBY still boasts understated vocals singing blissful melodies with a vibe that is decidedly not studio-heavy. That pleasant roughness has always drawn me to the quirkily named Missouran quintet, and nowhere is this roughness [...]
Perhaps our favorite album of the week is the debut, self-titled release from Colorado duo, Gauntlet Hair. If you're a fan of Animal Collective, then it's likely you'll dig the sounds of Gauntlet Hair, especially the lead tracks below, "Top Bunk" and "Keep Time." Following right behind GH is the newest single, "Yellow Missing Signs," [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
