Written by Jamie Brooker CYMBALS are an outfit that broke onto the UK indie-rock scene last year with their debut album Unlearn. Released on Tough Love, there were 300 copies released on vinyl in various colours, and it's since sold out. The good news is that they're back with another great track, No Bad Decisions. The groove of the bass line in this song is very catchy and it's helped along by subtle nuances that allow it to ebb and flow effortlessly. It's part of a forthcoming [...]
Here is a band who I can assure you are set to make quite a splash. Or I could say they are about to come crashing into your life, and it would be side to come along for the ride. Well, whatever; you get the point. I'm all out of cymbal-related puns at this point, but this makes what I've said no less valid: CYMBALS (and the ALLCAPS moniker is definitely necessary) could well be your new favourite band. Their new song reminds me quite a bit of Yeasayer for some reason; I haven't figured why that is yet, but [...]
Dive is the side project of Beach Fossils' guitarist Cole Smith . Understandably, Dive's work takes it's sonic cues from the atmospheric adventures of Beach Fossils and their astute 2010 debut. It's from this palette that Cole locates various dormant qualities and expands on them, producing a trance-like, cavernous sound, where piecing guitar lines jangle and jar, bouncing off the cave walls to form some sort of surfy kraut-rock dreamscape. It's pretty neat stuff. The newly released "Big Joke" is solid evidence of all these claims. It is the B-side off their latest single "Human," which is an even [...]
Goodbye horrid, sweaty, sandal wearing summer. Hello dark, cold, cosy winter. The clocks went back last week and we are delighted. So now our musical mood shifts slightly, and, rather than uptempo partying by the pool dance tracks, we want something warm and moody. Step forward The Bandana Splits . We're not usually taken in by this faux-40s singing trio malarkey, but The Bandana Splits seem to have nabbed themselves some decent tracks and err just on the right side of a 'knowing wink'. The single 'Sometimes' was out, [...]
Hackney born Maverick Sabre is probably best known for his featured vocals on tracks by acts such as Professor Green and Chase & Status. He is often compared to Plan B and could easily pass as his younger brother. Not only do they look similar but both their styles are influenced by grime, hip hop and soul; and this may well be the reason that Maverick was the perfect support act for Plan B's 2010 tour. However, 2011 may be the year that Maverick comes out of Plan B's shadow and is recognised in his own right. Read [...]
Polock – Sometimes
[Video] – Polock – "Sometimes"
Watch the video for Polock 's "Sometimes" , taken from their debut album, "Getting Down From The Trees" . It's been almost two years since Spanish band Polock dropped their first album, "Getting Down From The Trees" , but, apparently, they're still promoting it, as the video for album highlight "Sometimes" has just dropped. The video has a very classic style to it, with footage of the band performing the song. The lighting keeps things modern and towards the halfway point things get [...]

[Introducing] – Polock
Tweet Imagine the musical child of Phoenix and The Strokes with dashes of Modest Mouse thrown in. Valencia based band Polock is such child. Their debut album, "Getting Down From the Trees" , released in April of last year, was most likely the soundtrack to many summers, bursting with sunshine, incredibly catchy hooks, and some great songwriting. It's not the most experimental or groundbreaking record I've heard by a long shot, but when the record is on, [...]
