Son of Rams - Perfume and Feathers Brooklyn’s Joe Pruitt sends me a new self-released album of insanely good homemade psych-pop songs every few months - he’s got three of ‘em up on his website for free download right now - and every time I hear his songs I’m floored by his exquisitely capable songwriting skills. Guy knows hook-writing like a pro. Grab his new Luther EP - named, I’m imagining by his email address after his own middle name - on his website . The artwork is “ a [...]

Joe of Son of Rams occasionally sends me new music and I always love it. It's got this fuzzed-out psychedellic quality, and this time, a depature from the 70s AM sound to a more country/rock vibe. Joe describes it as, " kind of a mix of Merle Haggard's 602s stuff with McCartney's "Band On the Run". His latest EP entitled Luther is up for grabs on his website and I suggest you grab it. Songs like Black Widow, or Perfume and Feathers are [...]

This show began like any other, but without the transition difficulties. All was smooth. The music, on the other hand, was not. After a long, satisfying week, I was in need of some loud, abrasive rock music. But it wasn't all like that. Due to the cold weather, I mixed in some beach pop, fuzzy dream pop and good old garage rock and pop. Don't forget to hit up the bottom of this post and listen to two tracks from the playlist! "Torn Curtain" by Television [...]

The problem with so-called best-of lists, is that they are really just a collection of items organized based on experience and time, in that there will be plenty of albums heard the following year and beyond that will hold just as much weight as these we dub as "Best." So, as of right now, at this particular time in the tail end of 2010 and the first moments of 2011, these albums are the best. There's no question about it; it will change. My next list (which I've started, but may take a while to publish) is [...]
I can't believe it's time again for me to say who I think is going to blow up next year. I'd like to clarify that nobody has asked for my input on this, but I feel that these bands are going to either blow up or achieve mild success that to me is the equivalent [...]

Joseph Pruitt of Family Trees has been busy creating a new one-man side project called Son of Rams ; music so gritty and irresistible it’s perhaps the best cure for those winter time blues. Though we can hear the classic rock influences, from sixties pop melodies to seventies psychedelic rock riffs, there remains a refreshingly progressive building of sound in Pruitt’s work. His music explodes with triumphant, fuzzed-out glory reminding us of how dirty garage rock can be dangerous and comforting all at once. Jangly, charming, sultry and intoxicating, these sounds are just full [...]

You might recognize Joseph Pruitt as a member of the band Family Trees , whose 7" is currently available through the Father/Daugther Records '21 Days of Holidaze' sale . Let us not forget, however, that in the past, we posted the track "Triple Eyed" from Mr. Pruitt's side project Son of Rams , which features fuzzed-out, psych pop jams. Today, we have Son of Rams' recently released EP, Frolics in the Pink , for download. "Triple Eyed" serves as a solid jump off point for the [...]

If there was ever a perfectly minimalist site, it'd be that of Son of Rams . No photos, nothing really of a description, just the songs offered up as free downloads. Maybe that's the mystery that should remain, that the music makers shouldn't reveal more than just their art, for you to really get it, without all the rest. What I do know is that he's a member of Brooklyn's Family Trees, and his name is Joseph Pruitt. Everything he sends me, I love. He's got that authentic distorted sixties psychedellic vibe. So different from the sounds [...]

Its Sunday and I'm officially on vacation. Camping on the beach! So you might see a drop off in posts the next few days while I bask in the sun's warm warming glow. (there should be a... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

There's something special brewing in Brooklyn and it largely surrounds one Joe Pruitt, whose band Family Trees gave us the single Dream Talkin' a short while ago. Well, Joe just dropped me a note about his other band, Son Of Rams , and once again I'm smitten. Son Of Rams veers in a slightly different direction, namely Pruitt and company give it a psychedelic edge, although it is undoubtedly upbeat pop. "Triple Eyed" is a new song filled with vocal hooks and catchy fuzz-filled riffs and a wild, psychedelic guitar [...]

Remember Family Of Trees ? If not, you need to hear their song " Dream Talkin '". One of the members of Family Of Trees, Joseph Pruitt, has another band called Son Of Rams , and he is producing some excellent work with them. He has his debut album available to download for free on his website (download the zip right here ). He recently added a new song called "Triple Eyed", and it's wonderful. Loving his sound. That guitar riff is killer. Joseph, where have you been all my life? He's batting [...]
Joe Pruitt is something of an enigma, at least for those searching for a little more information beyond his minimalist site offering his LP for free download (which you must absolutely grab now ). What I do know is that he is a member of the much beloved Brooklyn-based Family Trees , and he managed to record under Son of Rams , seemingly a solo effort, that sounds experimental, psychedellic and perfectly vintage without sounding like it was going for the scratchy lo-fi thing, moreso that it occurred naturally and the result is something very authentically sixties rock [...]
This isn't a mix, just a collection of a few tracks I've been into lately. I'm not sure if I've graduated to mix status yet, I still reserve mixes for close friends due to the fact that they are filled with nostalgic jams that are in no way cool or new. Anyhow, hope you enjoy. I'm really feeling the new WAVVES - stoked to check them out with Avi Buffalo and The Soft Pack at this year's NXNE. WAVVES- Post Acid Phantogram- [...]
