BY KEITH MEATTO The legendary composer Philip Glass makes music that's so minimalist and repetitive that it has inspired a joke: Knock Knock. Who’s there? Knock Knock. Who’s there? Knock Knock. Who’s there? Knock Knock. Who’s there? Knock Knock. Who’s there? Knock Knock. Who’s there? Knock Knock. Who’s there? Philip Glass. Knock Knock... On Sunday at the Music Hall of Williamsburg , the 70-year-old Glass brought his signature stripped down sound to Brooklyn, joined by an eclectic mix of [...]

They say it's good to start 'em young, and the theory has worked out well for Norwegian singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche . Before his name began appearing on marquees for his debut "Faces Down," Lerche had done jazz, punk and rock. Now at 30 years old, he's holding seven indie pop albums under his belt. With live album "Bootlegs," (out now via Mona Records), his catalog is bumped up to eight albums. Lerche's also announced that his first four albums ("Two Way Monologue," "Two Way Monologue," "Duper Sessions" and "Phantom Punch") will be released on limited edition vinyl for the [...]

BOB MOULD, THE THERMALS ( Wonder Ballroom , 128 NE Russell) Read our article on Bob Mould. SONDRE LERCHE, FANCY COLORS ( Doug Fir , 830 E Burnside) Coffee-shop playlists and first dances following matrimony share an equally strong adoration of Sondre Lerche. Why? He's got this unassuming charm about the way he conducts himself—a nostalgic, boyish charm galvanized through simple-hearted lyrics that never approach maudlin, and an appreciation for the softer faces of folk [...]

When thinking of a unique musical experience, a live album is unusual, especially from a band or artist whose catalog is easily accessible. With Bootlegs , Sondre Lerche sets out to do exactly that and actually adds something truly noteworthy to his catalog. Through a career that spans about a decade, bearing six full length albums, some movie soundtrack credits , a more than a handful of singles, some under-advertised EPs, and some pretty choice collaborations, Sondre Lerche ’s first and foremost concern has been putting out [...]

Sondre Lerche photos by David Greenwald Norwegian singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche has been one of my favorite musicians since his debut album, Faces Down made its way to America in 2002. The album, influenced by everyone from Beck to Bacharach, presented Lerche as a sensitive, striking new voice - a status only furthered to me by albums such as sophomore set Two Way Monologue and the undersung jazz-based Duper Sessions as well as his headlining performance at our own 2011 SXSW party . He's now revisiting his first four albums [...]

Do you ever have one of those weekends that seem to go on like a whole entire day longer than most weekends? It's strange but I think I had one of those weekends that just ended yesterday. You know, some people have jobs where they don't even get weekends let alone 3 day ones. Jobs like serial killer and connivence store clerk (I would like to see the overlap of those two jobs on a ven diagram) have to work really strange hours, like nights and holiday Mondays. So if you are one of [...]

With the shortened work week thanks to Labor Day, our new releases schedule is a little shorter than average as well. Sondre Lerche has a bunch of reissues on tap with a new release Bootlegs as well. T.I. was supposed to release Trouble Man this week, but recent reports suggest it has been pushed back. Animal Collective 's Centipede Hz (pictured) probably ends up being the most interesting release of the week, and most likely one of the most anticipated as well. Of course, it's hard to forget about [...]
