Waaay more than necessary, but there were oodles of videos that were highly enjoyable this week. I'm especially proud of Laura Gibson, who stepped out from behind her music to star in a haunting video for her title track song, "Le Grande". Also, watch out for the slow-mo ta ta's in the Labyrinth Ear [...]
The SONDRE LERCHE 's he-drummer splices up some live footage for their new rock n rolling video, WHEN THE RIVER . Soo good that I've paused this week's US episode of Desp House for this visual treat.

Watch the new video for Sondre Lerche 's new single When The River .

Kishi Bashi , that's the moniker of K Ishibashi, collaborator and tour-member of acts like of Montreal , Regina Spektor , and Sondre Lerche . His own songs feel like an delightful excursion into epic orchestral spheres. I have to admit that I haven't heard such refreshing pop tunes in a long, long time. Marvelous! After a first EP last year, K is releasing his debut solo album, 151a , on April 10th via Joyful Noise . mp3 | It All Began With a Burst [...]

Sondre Lerche's new video for "When The River" is a pretty, soft-focus splicing of Super 8 film (from drummer David Heilman's childhood) and Lerche performance footage shot by his Lerche's, Mona. It's a clip that underscores the heartsickness of nostalgia and the mellow sadness of Lerche's music, all presented with vivid flecks of color and life. Though the Super 8 thing is pretty overdone at this point, it's a nice reminder of that style's effectiveness when thoughtfully employed. Watch the clip below. Read More...

Tweet One of the rewards of being a fan of a particular band, besides their actual music, is that you sometimes get to reap the benefits of the music they're into. In this case it was Sondre Lerche and his uncanny ability to pick remarkably talented show openers. Before attending his summer tour I had never even heard of multi-instrumentalist K. Ishibashi, a.k.a. Kishi Bashi . It's sort of surprising I hadn't heard of Ishibashi sooner, considering [...]

Sondre Lerche : To Be Surprised [ purchase studio version ] Norwegian artist Sondre Lerche is not exactly a household name. My first encounter with the man and his music was an appearance on the David Letterman Show a few years back. Following in a long tradition of late night TV talk shows, one of the better sections of Letterman's show is the regular musical offering at the end, sometimes introducing us to a musician we might not have otherwise been exposed to. This performance was a breath [...]

Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]
Listen to Sondre Lerche perform an acoustic cover of Beyonce's 'Countdown'.

New Year's Eve can be about a lot of things, none of which should be tarnished by a certain mega-cast movie that looks too bad for words. Hanging with friends, toasting with champagne, and dance partying to whatever tunes appeal. Or, in less delicate terms, throwing down and getting lucky. Behold: a Friday Five of indie rock tunes that have your good times rolling in mind, whatever your taste. Paint your face, cover Beyonce like the indie champ you are, or, in the eternal words of Lykke Li, get some. [...]

Welcome to the end of the year. A time for reflection, for resolutions, for binge drinking, and for me telling you what was good in the TBE hood! Kicking things off are my 15 favorite covers spanning all genres and damn near all instruments. Guys! Girls! Guys singing girls' songs! Girls singing guys' songs! It's mayhem! Strap in, rock on, and let me know if I missed your favorite cover of the year. 15. ♫ Jimmy Cliff - Ruby Soho (Rancid cover) / Reggae legend + Punk legends = Legendary. 14. ♫ Sondre [...]

Sondre Lerche 's annual cover song for Stereogum was perhaps his best yet: Beyonce's Countdown. It's a minimalist acoustic take on the original, but with a considerable amount of sass. I wonder if he's ever said, "my boo boo ridin'" before in his life. Probably. Read his note below: This year, it's officially a tradition: for the third time my annual Christmas gift to you is my humble solo acoustic version of someone else's song; my favorite of the year, no less. In 2011 there was a tie between two [...]
Norwegian pop artist Sondre Lerche cover's Beyonce's "Countdown"

With most of the appeal of Beyonce's fan & crit-beloved 4 single "Countdown" lying in Be's superwoman diva vocals and a thrillingly frenetic production that makes a fine modern pop-soul mess out of old-school Boyz II Men shout-outs, dizzying horn cycles, marching band percussion and bits of dancehall trickle, having the song stripped down into a sleepy coffeehouse acoustic form might not read as all that necessary on paper... ...that is, until one has given an ear to this early Xmas gift of a remake by elfin Norwegian singer-songwriter [...]
Sondre Lerche has proven himself a pop culturally voracious man over the past few years, what with his choice of covers, but he's outdone himself with his traditional holiday release in 2011, bringing his customary tender fingerpicked guitar and sublime vocals to a cover of Beyonce's banger-to-end-all-bangers, "Countdown." It's a song written for the dance floor and not for the coffee shop, but Sondre does his best here. Sometimes (namely "me and my boo in my boof boof riiiidin'!!") the effect is more hilarious than impressive, but it's [...]
