The holidays may be wrapping up, but the decade continues on! So shall we continue our little end of the decade series called clichely & probably often incorrectly " Waxing The Aughts (Poetically) "... ...where we eschew impossible decade compiling lists and have the wonderful members of our community think back to some of their favourite albums from this past decade and [...]
Woot! Part three of the a series I have going on record labels ( part 1 , part 2 ). This time we have the ever impressive "FatCat Records" from Brighton (and Brooklyn). FatCat Records is pretty much an "ahead of the curve" indie label with a few great "straight ahead" indie artists. If you are a bit sketchy on what I am trying to say, think of starting at Animal Collective and move towards Frightened Rabbit. See, now you [...]

John Prine - Christmas in Prison Kelly Latimore - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas The Russian Futurists - It's Not Really Cold When It Snows Songs of Green Pheasant - Wolves Amongst Snowmen They Came From the Stars I Saw Them - The Lovesick Snowman Come back for parts 2 and 3 of [...]

Do you still get all excited on Friday thinking about the weekend? I don't particularly live for the weekends anymore, but I do enjoy my Friday afternoons. However, Fridays in the Fall mean football games, which really means marching band events (don't tell anybody, but that's what the band parents call our high school football games). I love to watch the band out on the field. Last year my son was the only tuba player, so he was easy to pick out. This year there are four of them, which ought to sound great. [...]

Holy shit, people. This one might be the holy grail. You all know how much I love terrible movies -- especially ones that achieve the so-called "triple crown of awfulsome", a term I've just now invented. That is, a movie that fails miserably on the three most important levels: writing, acting, and direction. House Of Wax and AntiTrust are both considered to be triple crown winners (although the latter is more of a sci-fi thriller than a horror movie). Well, this past week a film arrived at the store, and I tell you...it was love at [...]
My intention was to make this a big post, just like the albums post I made last week, but I've been a combination of really busy with this new jibby job of mine and a bit lazy too. So, here we are over a week after I said I'd put this up and I'm just now doing it. Eh, in the immortal words of Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein, "Could be worse, it could be raining". So, without further ado, here's my 28 favorite songs of the year in no order whatsoever. Why 28? [...]

Today is the beginning of my year end wrap up. I'll have some more lists this week, including my songs of the year post. Before I get to the list, I just want to say that I can't remember a year in which as much great music was released as this one. I initially set out to do a list of my ten favorite albums this year but that soon became impossible, then it was 15, then 20, and finally i settled on 25. Truth be told, i probably could have made a top 50, but [...]
10. Songs of Green Pheasant Gylling Street Just gorgeous in every way with an isolated feel ala post Floydian Syd Barret albums sans coocooness. Every track is aces and each has it's own lil' piece of noise that doesn't match anything on the rest of the album. I wonder if this is the subdued Brit version of freak folk. My favorite [...]
I wanted to bring your attention to the dreamy, ethereal collective Songs of Green Pheasant and their new album Gyllyng Street . These Icelanders really have a knack for capturing a bewildered spirit in their music. Although short in length, Gyllyng Street makes up for it with its sheer loveableness. These tracks are achingly sweet, nostalgic in a sense, and conjure up images of both breathless foaming seas on an early dusk as Old Man Winter makes his way into town. I'd highlight some tracks for you, but the best way to really experience this music is [...]

It's freaking Friday! I wasn't sure I would survive there for a little while. This sickness knocked me on my ass. But I started feeling better yesterday and I do certainly feel better today just in time for the weekend! Yeah! I thought I would start with some new music...I am kind of letting the hype die down in regards to the Radiohead download release, because you know me... :) In other news I did get a working iPod and it is grand. I have so much room I don't [...]
Sometimes it can take much more than a cursory listen to pin down an album, sometimes the real pleasures of a release can't fully reveal themselves until the 3rd or even 10th listen. Occasionally when rifling through releases that are much easier to pin down its these gems that I lose track of, sometimes until its long too late to talk about them. Gyllyng Street is one of these hard to pin down albums that after about the 10th listen worms itself inside your head to stay. I'd been a fan of Duncan Sumpner's first offering under the [...]

Thus a love life started between the girl and myself, and it was so intimate and so intense that we could hardly let a week go by without meeting. And yet we virtually never talked about it. I realized that her feelings at seeing me were the same as mine at seeing her, but I found it difficult to have things out. I remember that one day, when we were in a car tooling along at top speed, we crashed into a cyclist, an apparently very young and very pretty girl. Her head was almost totally ripped off by the [...]
Here we are again with a new week and another avalanche of new album releases. This week is another bank account drainer, as fall now seems to be in full swing, with a huge list of new releases compiled the unfailing Largehearted Boy . Several reissues (For Against, Immaculate Machines, Iggy Pop and box sets (Emmylou Harris, John Coltrane) complement this collection of independent and mainstream releases. A few highlights this week of albums from bands you typically hear on KEXP (or will soon) include Akron/Family, Carolyn Mark, The Donnas, Magnet, Rogue Wave, Hard-Fi, The Fall, Gravenhurst, Mary Gauthier, Ben Lee, and Les Savy Fav. Local bands Green Pajamas, Schoolyard Heroes, and [...]

Citay - First Fantasy (from labelsite ) San Fransisco's Citay will release their second album "Little Kingdom" on the Dead Oceans label on November 6 , and this track is a taster of the new album. imagem em fat-cat.co.uk Enquanto estava aqui a escrever no blog estive a ouvir, " Gyllyng Street ", da banda inglesa, Songs of Green Pheasant . [...]

I've been throwing a lot of new names/contributors at you in the past couple weeks, but I hope you think that's a good thing. Just hoping to give you a variety of styles of both writing and music. I liked being around Greg the minute I met him. We talked about music and life with complete ease and have done so since that first day. Greg is passionate about discovering new music, loves a good live show, and is activly pursuing a career in the business side of music. Send all opportunities his way. [...]
