From the album, Antenna to the Afterworld , available 6/11/13 on Polyvinyl.

All signs point to yes for the San Francisco band

What a start to the weekend: ► Richard Thompson , the 64-year-old legend whose latest album "Electric" solidifies his place in the pantheon of guitar greats, brings his electric trio to the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. ► Seven Saturdays [see our post on "One in 3" ] celebrates the release of their self-titled album by bringing its spectacularly cinematic music to the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock. Dark Rooms and Little Red Lung support. ► Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti kicks off its U.S. tour with a [...]

Sonny & The Sunsets have a dark, existential album coming out next month on Polyvinyl called Antenna to the Afterworld, and despite the heaviness of its title, all of the singles so far have been tinged with Sonny's ethereal lightness. This third single, entitled "Palmreader", is a SF-area throwback with its polite melodies and restrained snare crispness. In an epic ploy to get us to think about death without really thinking about it, Sonny & The Sunsets pose us with existe...

Sonny & the Sunsets ' forthcoming record "Antenna to the Afterworld" bounces back and forth between twee boy-girl verses reminiscent of Saturday Looks Good to Me and chugging rock chords echoing the Feelies, making it the most charming record yet from Sonny Smith and his San Francisco-based posse. Much of this charisma comes from the innocent off-kilter translation of Smiths's stories. Whether he's singing about falling in love with a cyborg ("Green Blood") or working out one's feelings over a friend's death ("Palmreader"), after each song you always kind of want to hug him as if he were the weird [...]

San Francisco pop band Sonny & The Sunsets have shared 'Palmreader', the second track from their next record. 'Palmreader' is laden with guitar riffs that snake in and out of each other. They propel the melody forward with a head bobbing momentum. Still present is their jangling, sunny psychedelic pop trademarks as they ruminate on the end of the world. Sonny & The Sunsets release Antenna To The Afterworld via Polyvinyl on June 11.
The prolific but reliably wide-eyed San Francisco psych-pop band Sonny & The Sunsets, who always sound amazed at their own ability to make music, will soon release Antenna To The Afterworld , a concept album that's both about aliens and about the death of one of frontman Sonny Smith's friends. We posted the early track " Dark Corners ," and now they've shard a second one. "Palmreader" is a lush, full guitar-tapestry that reminds me a bit of the Chills or the Feelies, and it works as a prettily numb meditation on death. Listen below. Read More...

We've been fans of the San Francisco band Sonny & The Sunsets since hearing their splendid single, "Too Young To Burn," in 2010. That song, and the album it appeared on, Tomorrow is Alright, catapulted the band to indie stardom, and they've been riding high on that wave ever since with each recording or video [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Paperhaus released its alt-country styled self-titled EP in 2011, and will release its second effort, an EP entitled Lo Hi Lo on May 28th and it reflects the more pop side of Paperhaus' psychedelic music. This week, David Bowie demonstrated his 'work flow diagrams', we learned that Flying Lotus will feature new music in the Jay-Z produced film An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty, Wolfmother will now be referred to as the frontman's moniker Andrew Stockdale, and James Murphy doth protests too much as he told us again that an LCD Soundsystem reunion "isn't happening." But get excited, as we give you a few of our favorite things from the week in no particular order. Durh...

On "Green Blood," Sonny & The Sunsets goes all classicist jangle and helium pop under a blasé spoken word narrative about loss. Its steady intergalactic pulse chugs into psychedelic atmosphere, but the underlying strum rests firmly in the heart of underground American rock.

Sonny Smith is a busy man in the music game, and he seems to work just about as hard as anyone physically can. It's also worth saying that we seem to gobble up everything he does and tend to enjoy each new release as they rack up year after year. As previously mentioned, Sonny and his band the Sunsets have a new album entitled Antenna to the Afterworld dropping on June 11th via Polyvinyl Records . Prior to that release, we've got another new preview of the album in the form of new song "Green Blood". It [...]

Damn right this was an easy choice for Track of the Day - Sonny and those easy-going Sunsets are on fine form here. This track is lifted from the forthcoming album, Antenna To The Afterworld , which drops in June - WE CAN'T WAIT.
