An all-star cast showed up to wish Sonny Rollins a Happy 80th.

Happy Birthday, Sonny! Yesterday, tenor saxophonist and composer Sonny Rollins, one of the most important and influential living musicians, turned 81. Mr. Rollins is famous for composing some of the most popular jazz standards of the be-bop era, like the calypso tune "St. Thomas," and "Oleo" and "Doxy," both of which feature "I've Got Rhythm" changes. Another one of Sonny's most famous tunes is the blues "Tenor Madness," the title track of his 1956 LP. Sonny borrowed Miles Davis's quartet for this record, with the rhythm section of Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, [...]

If I - a man possessing almost no energy whatsoever - can successfully hold down a regular job plus two extracurricular jobs, a blog, a social life, a personal life, and a somewhat-rigorous four-day-a-week exercise regimen…you don't get [...]

"The first time [hearing The Fall], I just thought 'This is absolutely awful. This bloke can't sing, it's repetitive, it doesn't make any sense, all the things are out of tune, it just goes on and on the same. I hate it'. Then I heard it again and for all those reasons I thought, 'This is also brilliant'." "There's nothing worse than comedians saying they're like freestyle jazz musicians, because usually what they mean is that they had a photograph taken of themselves smoking..." "This is another thing we've forgotten about is that with Mark E. [...]

Sure, Robert Smith has taken the band on numerous world tours throughout the last three decades, but there`s something quite special surrounding the `Vivid Live` Festival. Hosted at the splendid Sydney Opera House on 31st May [...]
