Sonoi dropped by WBEZ's Eight Forty-Eight on Monday to rock a track from their latest, Tropics Of Holland . The Chicago indie-pop trio performed the slow burning number "Cotton" that offers some warm, shimmering guitar play over a minimalistic rhythm while Adam Busch's croon nearly gives the song a tribal quality. Last time we saw Chicago atmospheric indie rockers Sonoi, they had just released their self-titled debut last April . But the band posted a music video to their Facebook page earlier this month for an experimental, ambient track titled, "Etude D." The video, produced and edited by Joy Whalen, uses some great naturalistic footage of a leaf and, uh, other stuff? The self-titled debut full-length from Chicago's Sonoi manages to become more than the sum of its diverse parts, though somewhat inconsistently. The intricate indie pop sections never clash with the swimming, ambient passages. They don't knock you over the head with their technical expertise, but it's also quite clearly on display.
