So far the vowel deficient SHDWPLY hasn't led me astray; they've had great releases from Gary War and Teeth Mountain and now Sore Eros. Mostly the work of Robert Robinson who has spent some time in Ariel Pink's band, and while that touchstone bears some merit, Robinson's songwriting inhabits a much more lush and blissful side of sedation than Pink's Xanax music box melodies. Much of Second Chants feels caught in between the blurred rings that form when you stare at the sun too long, warm and shimmering with a flood of colors just around the edges. There [...]
